I have to say that it is one of the best ways to spend a few hours, especially if you have friends or family visiting from away. Randy is a retired teacher and is a wealth of knowledge of the area with an ability to educate his guests in a very passionate and informative way. Tony Pearcey had the wood stove nicely burning by the time we returned to Pearcey's Twine Store after our walking tour, which was so welcoming. We were able to relax, tell a few stories and enjoy the view of the harbour. This tour is highly recommended. It's a very good experience and will leave you with many good memories. It was unveiled in 1924 and represents a time well before Newfoundland joined the Canadian Federation. The main statue features a female allegorical sculpture, often referred to as Victory, Liberty, or the Spirit of Newfoundland. It rises above bronze figures of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment, Royal Naval Reserve, Merchant Marine, and Forestry Corps. The monument is in Downtown St. John's and was an easy walk from our Hotel. It's located near the harbour where troops departed and returned from the war and it remains an important site of remembrance. Across the street you'll find a monument to the 2 iconic dog breeds named for this Province - Newfoundland and Labrador.

We went to Cape Spear, Petty Harbour, downtown St. John's, Signal Hill, Cabot Tower & Quidi Vidi. I appreciated the breadth of Brendan's knowledge about St. John's & Newfoundland in general. During the drive he would tell us interesting historical facts & stories. I do wish we'd had more time at each stop. The longest time we had was at Cape Spear, about 25 minutes. Hubby & I only had enough time to go up to the gift shop, take some pictures of the lighthouse & views. It would have been nice to get a chance to hike around some more. Also the van we were transported in fit 4 couples comfortably but it looked kind of worn. Some of the upholstery on the backs of the seats was fraying & the van smelled a bit musty. There was another tour group shadowing us & their bus looked much larger & newer so I was wishing we'd been in a nice bus like that. Other than that though, I would say the tour was enjoyable. The price of the tour was fair.

They even rubbed their backs under the boat and nudged us some. Several times they poked their noses out of the water, flapped a fin like a wave, and brought their tails out of the water, we got sprayed by there blowhole. And they stayed around the boat. Outstanding. The crew was serious about safety and even provided a squirt of sunscreen. The history, humor, and Screech-in ceremony were certainly memorable. Definitely recommend this group!

Whales are still in the area and we came across three ... they were social and eventually came near our boats. It took a while and we had to be patient. Very cool! Whale breath ... not so cool! It was horrible and smells like strong strong turnip. We stayed there for a long time ... eventually we had to move on to visit the puffins and other birds on Gull Island, which is very rugged. The sides of the island were jammed with birds. Justin was our guide and entertained us during the tour. He gave us lots of information and even sang a couple songs. He was quite funny and obviously had as much fun as we did. Alas, the two hours were over and we had to dock. It was an excellent tour and one that I would recommend if you are in St. John's.
