Oils, works on paper, sketches, large-scale photography, sculpture. Something for everyone, ranging from around $1,000 up to $15,000, which I think was the priciest one we saw. This is a very nice gallery just across the street from the Doubletree. It features various…read morepaintings from local artists and a nice selection of indigenous soapstone sculptures. I thought that the pricing was fair and transparent, even down to whether tax was included or not. I left the shop with a nice set of watercolor cards and a book featuring gorgeous Newfoundland scenery. Like the previous reviewer, I was impressed with the engaging artist/owner (?) who explained the various works of art in an welcoming and friendly manner. I also learned a lot about Newfoundland itself and how to better approach Gayle and my visit. In the end, she was right. Our memories of Newfoundland were the landscape, the people, and the charming towns - as opposed to specific attractions.

They have the requisite St. John's street scene paintings, along with a nice variety of still-life painting, soapstone sculpture, bronzes, etc. I was impressed with the art and even more impressed with the engaging and helpful artist who was on hand to answer questions. In St. John's (in their current location on Water Street), I found the Newfoundland Crafts Council store and had the pleasure of visiting it a couple times during our stay here. The selection did not disappoint, as I came away with a nice forged letter opener from the Green Family Forge (Trinity) and a nice St. John's house magnet from Northeastern Folk Art. I could have easily done more "damage", but it was early in our trip and I needed to pace myself.

I give a fair amount of business to framers and have honestly never had such poor service. As I had a deadline I had to leave the picture here. But I won't be back. When I went back to pick up the finished product more boredom prevailed. Not even a thank you for the nearly $200 I forked over. Overpriced and underserved.

It was conveniently about a 15 minute walk from the cruise ship dock.  Upon entering the Visitors center we were quickly greeted by a friendly staff member. They were able to quickly provide us with alot of useful information. They pointed out that some parts of the museum were free, and there was like 4 rooms that required a ticket. We decided to not get a ticket because we were on a limited time schedule. This is a must stop museum, you could spend hrs just admiring all the history and scenery inside and out. Make sure you go up to the observation decks as well. They do have conference rooms and a cafeteria. I will add more info later... @glampedlife
