The staff were very knowledgeable and helpful, and the scenery was magnificent. they went above and beyond to make sure all of us got good pictures of the whales, puffins, bald eagles, etc.

pretty ok. easy to get tickets when arriving at the right time and the boat is pretty spacious. theres street parking and private lots all over the area where the boat comes out so driving to the attraction is not a huge issue, however the island is pretty small so driving does not make much sense if you are downtown anyways. we walked here from our hotel and got the tickets pretty nice and easy. they have military discounts so make sure to ask for it. as the people come on board everyone tried to get seats outside, I must say it was pretty cold outside and the trip is pretty lengthy so by the time you reach the high point of the attraction people have already moved around so do not worry about where to sit when you coming in the boat, things will chance I can guarantee. there is a lot of history being told here so make sure to pay attention, it is a pretty interesting trip. there is no guarantee you will actually see the whales, we saw some penguins the puffy ones and that was super cool, but no whales. we got to find out a lot of interesting facts about the area on the trip and they also offer an SCREECHING ceremony during the trip, only you will not kiss the cod. but it was cool to do it on the boat none the less. if you stay inside the cabin I must say for me it did not work, I got a lot more nauseous there than outside on the top deck, so if you get a little nauseous try going up it is a lot better in my opinion. this is overall in my opinion something you should do while here for the experience for sure, however you may be let down for not seeing the wildlife you are looking for during the trip so do not have your hopes super high so you do not get very disappointed. oh make sure to bring some very warm clothes you may need it.

The whole trip was great. The crew was informative and entertaining, and we saw eagles, puffins, and so many whales!

We went to Cape Spear, Petty Harbour, downtown St. John's, Signal Hill, Cabot Tower & Quidi Vidi. I appreciated the breadth of Brendan's knowledge about St. John's & Newfoundland in general. During the drive he would tell us interesting historical facts & stories. I do wish we'd had more time at each stop. The longest time we had was at Cape Spear, about 25 minutes. Hubby & I only had enough time to go up to the gift shop, take some pictures of the lighthouse & views. It would have been nice to get a chance to hike around some more. Also the van we were transported in fit 4 couples comfortably but it looked kind of worn. Some of the upholstery on the backs of the seats was fraying & the van smelled a bit musty. There was another tour group shadowing us & their bus looked much larger & newer so I was wishing we'd been in a nice bus like that. Other than that though, I would say the tour was enjoyable. The price of the tour was fair.

Very disappointed in this tour. I went on it to learn about the history of St. John's... cause you…read moreknow it has a long, vivid history. What we got was some guy driving us around in a van - except it wasn't near as creepy as that sentence sounds. We received a few tidbits of information, but a lot more bad jokes. Just avoid it.

We recently had friends visiting from Honduras and decided to immerse them into some local history…read moreby booking a 'Travel Through Twine' walking tour of the Battery in St. John's with Randy Pearcey. I have to say that it is one of the best ways to spend a few hours, especially if you have friends or family visiting from away. Randy is a retired teacher and is a wealth of knowledge of the area with an ability to educate his guests in a very passionate and informative way. Tony Pearcey had the wood stove nicely burning by the time we returned to Pearcey's Twine Store after our walking tour, which was so welcoming. We were able to relax, tell a few stories and enjoy the view of the harbour. This tour is highly recommended. It's a very good experience and will leave you with many good memories. I highly recommend it. Janet Lenover Bay Roberts, NL

Randy was born in St. John’s and raised in the Outer Battery by a family of fishermen – his knowledge of Signal Hill and its history, coupled with his outgoing personality, creates memories that will last a lifetime. No Signal Hill tour would be complete without a visit to the Pearcey Family Twine Store and Stage. Erected in 1890 by Randy’s great grandfather, experience an on-the-water museum while learning about the cultural significance of the cod fishery to Newfoundland and Labrador, the international influence on St. John’s Harbour, and so much more!
