I didn't purchase any cooked food only fresh fish but I swear the person's whose review is "not currently recommended" was spot on! The 2 people 1 middle eastern guy who cleaned the fish and the old Asian woman behaved as if I was bothering them. The cleaner had a scowl on his face the entire time and appeared to have a major attitude. the old woman was running around like a chicken without its head cooking food and touching money, boxes and doors with the same gloves on. I tried asking her a question and she goes yeah yeah she didn't even hear what I said. The fish selection is very limited and there are no names above the fish to let the customer know what they are buying. The worst part about this experience was when I got home, I saw that my fish wasn't even cleaned properly fish scales and guts was all over the place. I bought a fish sandwich here and for the price it's perfect. Just two slices of bread over 2/3 pieces of filet fish. Grab a beverage and you are set for a quick lunch. This fish shop is one of a kind due to fact that it sells fresh seafood along and can make it into anything you would like at the other end of the shop. You know, for a borough whose official motto should be: "This is why we can't have nice things!", it's a surprise a place like this place even exists. Its reputation proceeds even its existence because arbitrary people in my life on many separate occasions have expressed their love for the place. How could a joint, so unassuming, in a desolate area of an even more desolate borough become such a sleeper hit? Well, it's simple. The food's good and the food's cheap. It's a lot easier to think of this place more as a fish market as opposed to a restaurant. Because essentially that's what it is-- a fish market that decided to install 3 fryers. Cutting the middleman out, you can have your fish straight from the market, and it's a business model that's doing wonders. Being the mom & pop shop (I just realized that rhymed) that it is, its prices remain cheap; which is great because half of their menu actually consists of a type of steamed fish, complex carbs, & vegetables; a dinner setup you might recognize as a pretty damn good diet for bikini season. And if any of you are wondering, good fats contribute to the development of testosterone because that's basically what testosterone is made up of. A salmon a day, keeps the wife happy... and some tongue. What really tops it off for me, are the condiments. They make their own tartar sauce, juice their own lemons, and all the old bay sauce you could ever want. I think America needs to take a heavy consideration into officially switching regular fries with... Old Bay Waffle Fries. Like, regular straight salty fries should be something you have to ask for when you're sick of Old Bay Waffle Fries (which you never will get sick of). I've been going for the past year about once every other week for take-out (dine-in is now back); I always get my selection steamed (flounder, salmon, etc.); along with steamed vegetables, no spice/no salt. Can't beat it for clean, healthy low-cal food; excellent each time. On the few occasions I get a fried basket, the Korean lady is excellent at timing the deep-fry: hush-puppies perfect golden-brown on the outside, steaming-moist on the inside; fried shrimp not overdone and rubbery like most other places. The sell cra cakes, calamari, scallops and other items too. Have tried all the fried options and never had any compliants. Place is quiet you can eat it in sitting on the bench or do a take away. Who said you have to go to city island for good fried seafood. Very quick but it gets very busy during lunch hours but it's worth the wait. Great fried and steam sea food. Been eating here since I was young with my parents. Never disappointed and now I introduced my husband to it and he's in love with the food.
