Real fish stores are rapidly disappearing. Long hours, heavy loads, good chance of an injury from spines, small profit margins; nowadays everyone wants a cushy job. Here's the reasons for 5 stars: it's clean, it has never smelled fishy when you walk in, the fishes eyes are clear (a sign of being really fresh), there's an exceptional selection of fish, shellfish, and crustaceans, they'll clean the fish to your request, if you ask, on a hot summer day, to double bag the fish with ice in the outer bag it's gladly done for you. They know their products. There's lemons, sauces, and vegetables. They can create a cooked meal for you; pick out what you want. They do the rest. You know it has to be great if it's always crowded. Two people behind the cleaning stand and a few others helping customers. The prices are reasonable. They take cash, credit cards, and EBT.

A very small seafood market on the outskirts of the Arthur Avenue Italian neighborhood. Fresh…read moreseafood is laid out on ice on both walls. Most of the stock is fish, along with shellfish like shrimp, scallops, and lobsters. Customers can pick out their seafood themselves, using plastic baskets to hold, then take to the counter in the back to purchase. Another option is to have your purchase cooked for takeout. Seafood can be fried or steamed, with various vegetables (eg, carrots, potatoes, broccoli, corn, etc) as potential add-ons in the back counter display case. This option takes an approximate additional 15 minutes. Tough to fit into a typical workday, but it's a treat. The seasoning (generous amount of Old Bay with butter) is simple but spot on, the seafood cooked well and just right. Fried seafood is crisp and lightly breaded. Vegetables are not overdone, including broccoli that is just tender. There isn't space to eat in the market, so all purchases are takeout only. Prices are very fair; a small broiled whole snapper, a few shrimp, and corn and broccoli clocked in at $12. The seafood is very fresh too. A great stop for a seafood deal anytime.
