I really love this wine shop and have been going here for a couple of years now. I think the selection is always interesting and I'm always finding something new here, guided by the little cards under the bottles of wine which help give me an idea of how the wine will be. I do wish the natural wines were labeled more clearly though as I typically try to avoid those (due to personal preference). The staff at the front are always helpful and kind and they host events here all the time including tastings and speakers. I recommend following them on socials to stay up to date on these. A wine store opened on my block, I must admit the selections are limited however the customer service is friendly and warm. There are more expensive selections of wine behind the register. I am more in awe of the decor than I am of the selection, again the selection is limited however this space that was once a restaurant in previous to that a vintage clothing store is now the neighborhood winery, little is written to describe the taste of the many Riesling, Malbec, red or white. This place is for those new to Bed Stuy, the transient gentrifiers that are new to the block or Brooklyn for that fact, or those visiting the Air BnBs, or maybe those who are merely put off by the plexiglass bullet proof partitions walls and New York lotto tickets of the liquor store on Halsey and Malcolm X. Quaint wine shop with organic sparkling wine. I was concerned that they'd subsequently be pricey but their wines were affordable, the sales woman was patient, and the selection was unique. My friend lives a walk away and was hosting a girls' night in, so I popped into Manny's for a bottle of Prosecco. The selection isn't expansive, but it covers the bases. There were only two styles of Prosecco chilled, neither of which I was familiar with--so I chose based on which had a prettier bottle. Sounds fair, right. While it is devastating to see my beloved childhood neighborhood change so rapidly I can admit there are some welcome additions and Manny's Wine Shop is amongst them. I really love how simple and quaint it is inside; one could easily relax and peruse the wares or quickly grab their bottle and get on with their business. my partner and i went to this establishment at 1:30pm on 6/14/2021 (it's a sentimental day for us). there were 2 people there, one at the counter and one stocking wine, my partner and i asked 2 questions about the wine selection to the young person stocking and was met with dry uninterested and unhelpful responses. We decided to leave without buying & went to A True Love of Wine which is Black owned and 100x more welcoming and kind to black people. it's places like manny's that are white spaces that display subtle violent tendencies in Black neighborhoods that are not welcoming to Black folks read more

Enough of a selection to satisfy my palette. It is a modest wine shop, befitting of a space that has gone through several changes since I moved here in the early 90s. And also a contrast from the classic liquor store on the opposite end of the block. The wines are set up on shelves and you can look at the first bottle of the brand for pricing and descriptors if you're just browsing. I came in and described a wine that I had at an event recently but forgot the name of. The person behind the counter recommended one that tastes similar. A modest selection of modest wines at moderate prices. Riesling, Malbec, Sake; South African, French, Italian, etc. Nothing too fancy, nothing too un-fancy. Finer wines are behind the register, the rest are out in the open for up close examination. You can go back to selecting a wine by the design of a label alone, if that was your thing, if you were used to doing as much in that place where you were living before Bed-Stuy. For the classic experience, visit the liquor store on this block at Malcom X. Or any the others in the neighborhood. You can still exchange muffled words with a concierge behind glass, keeping it real and/or maintaining what you believe Bed-Stuy authenticity to be in your mind. I assume it'll become a destination for those who want something just a little nicer - or a little more specific for their tastes, for their classy nights in - than what you'd find at nearby liquor stores. It'll become the go-to for transients Airbnb-ing, put off by the protective polymer walls elsewhere. It'll get reviews here like "I've been waiting so long for this in the neighborhood" from my fellow gentrifiers ignoring or unaware of other close-ish options, like Bed-Vyne. If, like me, you don't have extensive wine knowledge, you will be selecting by label alone. Little is written about the wines but price and abstruse flavor comparisons (fresh grapefruit on a sunlit counter, barrel-aged sour cherries, three-day old organic but not quite fair trade coffee, etc). I like the wine shops that have straight-up number ratings and real word descriptions from those aficionado magazines posted on the shelves. Speaking of which, everything's just out on open shelves. Normally you see wine racks built to feature a single bottle for viewing, which have stock for the taking underneath. Here, since the bottle in the front is the one with the info tag on it, you have to reach in carefully behind it to snag one for purchase. I kept worrying I was going to end up in a "you break it you buy it" situation. Oh, yeah. I used one of those apps that scans labels to figure out what was what. You could speak to the sole staffer at the bar. There's a bar in here because this place used to be a bar. Manny's Bar, erratically open in its time, rebooted, rebuilt from Celestino's there before it, as a retail shop. I wouldn't be surprised if this interior format and residual inventory leads to eventual wine tastings or something of the sort here. All that said, if you know exactly what you want and have no desire to venture out, Manny's Wine delivers, with limited range, in the neighborhood - between Lexington, Broadway, Fulton, and Throop. 3 stars for now. The selection is extensive enough for the size of the shop and despite how nice it looks you can always find a good $10 bottle that tastes like a $30 bottle. I typically like this place and the staff. However, I was subject to an incident today that had me questioning the validity, morality and decency of this place. I have been a loyal customer since it opened. However, after literally purchasing from here today I was shoved to the point my purchases were knocked to the ground and one was broken. Upon re-entering the business and asking for help I was met with distain, rudeness and downright hostility. I am beyond disappointed and hurt. This is not the way to run a business, especially one so poignant and recognizable in the neighborhood. Be aware of your transgressions. read more
