He provided extremely detailed responses to my questions about the work we wanted done that I don't think another handyman would provide for free, EVER. On top of the fact that Scott gave me an extremely reasonable quote, it was a no brainer to hire S&S. Scott helped us expertly cut the bottom of one of our doors to make room for a high pile rug as well as hang a few items on our walls. Everything came out great with no surprises. He was flexible with scheduling, showed up on time, and we had some good laughs while he worked as well. All around great guy and a true professional. We'll be using S&S for all of our handyman needs moving forward.

That said, the clog in my kitchen drain unfortunately wasn't resolved, and the issue slightly worsened after the service. I did pay for the visit, understanding that it was a tough job. I eventually had to call another company, which was able to fully clear the clog at a lower cost ($200 total). While the outcome wasn't what I had hoped for, I acknowledge that drain issues can be complex and not always straightforward. Thank you for your time and effort.

Credit where it's due: AAA Advanced Plumbing came out the same day and fully resolved the problem…read more The pricing practices are the issue. When I called, I was quoted $265 for a full drain clean, plus a possible additional $165 if the plumber was on site for more than an hour. I accepted that estimate. I was never consulted about any additional work or charges. I learned by phone, after the work was done, that I owed roughly $750. The final invoice was $765.84: Main line: $385 (quoted: $265) Bowl removal: $150 Over the hour: $165 Wax seal: $7 Fuel & toll surcharge: $12 NJ sales tax: $46.84 Some of these charges are reasonable. But no one told me the toilet would need to be removed at a cost of $150, and no one told me the base price had changed from $265 to $385. A single phone call before proceeding would have let me make an informed decision as the homeowner. That call never came. Quoting one price and billing another is misleading. I can't recommend this company. If you use them, get the full price in writing before any work begins.

Returned from vacation in the middle of the night after long flight delays and 23 hours of travel…read more Turned on kitchen sink and suddenly had a lake in my kitchen. This was at 1 a.m. between a Saturday and a Sunday. Woke up Sunday morning and started calling plumbers with decent Yelp ratings. Manny and Manhattan Sewer Drain were second on the list. The first place, which I have used before and were fine, did not even answer the phone -- I got a voicemail greeting telling me to call back during business hours M-F. BUT I HAVE A NON-WORKING KITCHEN SINK!!! Manny answered the phone at 7:45 a.m. and said he would come at noon. I did a happy dance and my husband reminded me not to count unhatched chickens. But Manny was true to his word and all went to plan -- I really appreciated the little technological touches that added to my confidence -- he texted and called first to ask for pictures of my under-sink area in order to make sure he had the proper parts for the repair; then I received automated emails letting me know when he was en route, as well as when he was arriving. He came right on time, assessed the situation, went out for parts, came back, fixed my rotted pipe, ran a water test and was on his way within about 45 minutes! I should also mention that this was not just any Sunday, but a snowy one to boot with streets all slushy from an all-day Saturday snowstorm. Manny was super nice, professional, did what he said and transformed my kitchen from a nightmare to its normal functional self in under an hour. That would have been amazing in my book even if it didn't all happen on a Sunday morning! I will definitely call Manny again when I have plumbing nightmares unfolding around me! Final note -- for those who are railing about costs. I just don't know what to tell you except that this is NYC -- it is one of the most expensive cities on earth and it's expensive to run an on-call expert service business here too. I suppose plumbing may cost a little less in other towns but then you have to live in that other town. I notice this is a theme on veterinarian reviews too. It does stink to have to cough up a lot of dough unexpectedly but it doesn't mean someone is trying to fleece you. They have to cover their costs in order to keep their business afloat and be there for you when you need them! As for me, my repair cost in the neighborhood of $600 which was reasonable in my book for the service provided including the time and parts. I added a gratuity (cash and a gourmet chocolate bar) to express my thanks for the quick and professional service especially outside of normal business hours. I hope Manny stays in business for a long time to come!

What I liked is that I received emails along the way, like at one point he was a little delayed at another location, so my appointment was adjusted, just by an hour or so. As soon as Manny was done there, I received an email that he was on his way, and he still made it within the original time slot. There was one problem area, which he was able to tackle. He worked fast and cleaned everything out. Another upside; Manny is very nice and personable. In addition, the pricing is very competitive compared to other big companies I had over in the building before. I will definitely have him back next year for another cleaning.

I'd gone online and read numerous horror stories about companies that rip people off on gutter guards but I needed them desperately so I decided to bite the bullet. I called NJ Home Maintenance and scheduled an appointment for an appointment. A few short days later they arrived at the house for the estimate. They dropped off a few samples along with an explanation sheet explaining the benefits of each. I was rather surprised by the price which I consider to be more than fair. I hired them on the spot and could not be more pleased. The work performed, punctuality and communication were all without parallel. Speaking as someone who is very meticulous with the maintenance of their home, I can recommend them without reservation. Kudos much thanks.
