I have been a customer of Manhattan mailboxes for the last 2 years, due to the fact that I live next door to a criminal squatter who steals my packages. For the last 2 years I paid a total of $2,090.40 just to receive my packages which is a very large amount of money. When I called their Supervisor to let her know that I will not continue with my mailbox rental after the end of June. She immediately told me that they need an extra month's notice, and additional $87.10 just so the mailbox stays empty until someone decides to rent it. Because, I will not be using the mailbox. Outrageous and disgusting policy to basically charge an additional $87.10 for non-usage of a empty mailbox, just because the ownership is money hungry. I do not recommend this mailbox service to anyone, if you don't want to find out that after 2 years of being a customer this is how they will treat your loyalty and business. If I could give them a 0 stars, I would rank them as a big 0. ! read more

Listed as a UPS Service location, but this place refused to take the return package. I had to take a cab to 17th street. It's a rip-off and unreliable place to miss or at least cross the street to avoid. I usually use another location, but I was returning a very heavy box for someone. This was the closest "UPS" location. Over the years in this neighborhood I have attempted to utilize this place, usually some excuse or another has forced me to go to more legitimate businesses a few more blocks away. Do yourself a favor and ignore it, perhaps it will close and a reputable business will replace it. read more

Wow. So as a frequent online purchaser, I generally get multiple UPS packages a day, and mail one out every other day or so...no longer having a reliable UPS man schedule at our new apartment means having to drop off my prepaid boxes. This location charges $5 to drop off your prepaid box, but this alone is not where things go awry. Similar to the other location, the business practices of this establishment literally warrant a BBB (or more effective) complaint. We brought in a box, which bear in mind cost $12 to mail TO us (antique glass doorknobs bought on ebay, so we could see what the USPS charged him to ship these to us), anticipating maybe a few $ more with ups. We told them we wanted to ship either UPS OR USPS- whichever is CHEAPER. While waiting, we overheard others being informed that their shipments would be hundreds of dollars, thinking to ourselves, wow, thats ridiculous, but I guess because its international... Welllll, our "cheaper" option was $50...ground, slow, cheapest option. Interesting, given that it was $12 to mail this box TO us, and it was returning to the location from which it was shipped. They told us that yes, that was the cheapest and slowest option, and they don't add much on, UPS would cost us around the same. Strange, given the antique doorknobs themselves only cost $100ish, it didn't seem to make much sense to pay half that just to ship them back to the seller. We opted to take the box with us on the subway - and SHOCK! UPS charged us $12 to ship it - same packaging, same destination, etc etc etc... So in effect, they wanted to charge us over FOUR TIMES what UPS did. Anyone who is legitimately taken advantage of by these people is probably a bit slow, but regardless, they should be shut down for such dubious behavior. or maybe i should open up a mailing location next door, and charge .1% less. Rip off, rip off!!!! I went to ship a small package here using fedex and the rude worker quoted me $180!! I called fedex while I was waiting there and they said the same package would only cost $48 if I brought it to a "real" FedEx location, not a bogus shipping place like this that looks like a Fedex location. Buyer beware!!! I walked 3 blocks to the fedex location on West 4th street and paid just $48. I'm not sure why fedex, a trusted brand, let's slimy operators like this rip people off. read more

I'm so disappointed to learn that this place has been ripping me off on my past 4 shipments. Their up-charge is something like 200% for FedEx. They informed me that a 3 day shipment would cost around $60, but when I looked online I saw that it was only $17. Additionally, they ran my card without telling me that they were charging an extra $30 for "fragile wrapping" and only after said that "it's very time consuming." Isn't this their JOB? It's the age of the internet and I suggest Manhattan Mailboxes rethink their strategy. I'll never use their services again. read more

I've been bringing my UPS and FedEX boxes there for years. ALL UPS and FEDEX drop off points will charge you for packaging and creating your shipping label. Stop complaining and just do it on your own computer. Then you just go in there and drop your box off. They're friendly, they smile and they have treats for your dog. read more

Do not come here to mail anything! This place is horrible! I think handing a package to a random stranger on the street and praying has a better chance of successful delivery than using this place. The lady at the front desk who I think is the manager is incredibly rude and the whole outfit is truly incompetent. We tried shipping an important package and later realized we were charged 3x what it would have cost to ship it through a fedex or usps location directly. Ok, that's our fault for not researching ahead of time, but it's still not right. But as bad as that is, I wouldn't be writing this review if that was it. The reason I'm writing is that they made it worse by actually messing up the shipment that was really important to us. We tried tracking the package but we couldn't, which seemed weird. We tried several times calling/visiting the store to inquire and we were told too bad and hung up on several times. We then received the returned package at our apartment front desk and it turns out Manhattan Mailbox had put the incorrect amount of postage on it! So the package was never sent. Seriously? Unbelievable - that's Manhattan Mailboxes main job! With this proof of their unbelievable incompetence, we were able to get our money back after wasting more time with this place. But the damage of not getting the package sent on time was much worse. And we wasted hours dealing with this and the very rude and unprofessional worker/manager. We should have read the reviews of this place first. This is the first time I've reviewed a place like this but I feel like I have to - please don't make the same mistake as we did, avoid this place at all cost! read more

Extremely overpriced. I went to ship something there recently and it cost me ~$60 to send it UPS Ground. The same box shipped directly at UPS store came to ~$20. I understand that they need to mark it up a little to make profit, but a triple the price?? Come on! I was totally ripped off. Never going to go there again. read more

Convenient neighborhood spot where I can drop off my UPS prepaid returns - which have always been accepted willingly and without fee or attitude. All my interactions with shop staff gave been polite and professional. They have also taken clean packing materials off my hand for reuse, keeping it out of landfills. read more

I have been using this shop for nearly ten years. They are honest - including about charges - diligent and careful. I have sent items important to me and they were always packed well and arrived in perfect condition, even packages sent to Europe. I am thrilled to have a store nearby that gives me options whenever I ship. They took my passport photo and made excellent copies, including my archival materials. The employees are always gracious and friendly. Of course they do charge more than USPS or FedEx - they are a middleman and must add a surcharge to survive. But I appreciate the service, convenience and level of trust I have with Manhattan Mailboxes. read more

This place is a total ripoff. i went to there overnight a package by Fedex to Chicago and was quoted a price of $88. I went to a Fedex Kinko's and sent the package for $33. I called Manhattan Mailboxes to complain and the manager told me that the price should have been $69, not $88. But that's still more than double the price. Incredible. read more
