Stickers on my vegetables, no garlic sauce left at the shop, no hummus left at the shop, no onions left, no radishes left. No business left.

Probably one of my (former) favourite shawarma places in town. I've been coming here for about 6 years. Had the most flavourful chicken and portions that tower and overflow over your plate. As of recently, I've noticed I don't see the regular employees anymore. The flavour is disappointing, the portions are underwhelming, and I learned today they do not wash their vegetables. I found stickers on my vegetables. They didn't have any garlic sauce in the past 2 times I visited (what kind of shawarma place doesn't have garlic sauce?!). I get it, we're in a pandemic and business is hurting. But I don't get it business is hurting and you compensate by giving half the portions and NOT WASHING VEGETABLES DURING A PANDEMIC? Never coming here again. Do not recommend. Ottawa is the city of shawarma, you're better off trying one of the other 100 shawarma shops in town.

Mango's Surprise, 2 piece fried chicken

I got drawn to this place for the fried chicken - I'm always on the lookout for good fried chicken in the city. Loved the fact that they had it ready to go. Got a 2 piece to taste, and a small Mango's Surprise smoothie. The chicken was great, no too salty, not to greasy. I've had better, but his was pretty good. The smoothie - mango puree, berry puree, cantaloupe, honey dew melon, strawberries, pineapple, guava, a splash of honey, mile, and a scoop of ice. To say it was delicious and refreshing would be an understatement. The place is nicely laid out, with lots of room for large groups. Service is fast and friendly too. Next visit I will be trying the shawarma.

This is the best shawarma restaurant in Ottawa bar none. The grilled potatoes were great and the tabbouleh was fresh.

If you are sharing with a big family I recommend getting a few of their mixed platters or shawarma plates with extra garlic potatoes and baklava for dessert.

Ottawa Bike Cafe - Orange Chocolate Chip Cookie $4

I found the decaf Americano had too sour an aftertaste for me, but the orange chocolate chip cookie was good. The Long Version: I've heard of the Ottawa Bike Cafe and have been meaning to try it for some time now and have finally gotten around to it. My husband and I were on one of our "food and drink weekend adventures" where we go to a bunch of places that are new-to-us and get a little something to share at each place. Like a food crawl, lol. Anyway the Ottawa Bike Cafe was one of our stops. We got a medium decaf Americano ($3.70) and an Orange Chocolate Chip Cookie ($4). My husband liked the coffee and he rated it 4/5. He's more of a coffee connoisseur than I am, so his assessment on coffee is likely more trustworthy than mine, lol. I found the coffee bitter with too much of a sour aftertaste, but I'm one of those people who like flavoured syrup in my coffee (whereas my husband thinks flavoured coffee is gross and drinks his coffee black. We got the coffee black by the way). I enjoyed the Orange Chocolate Chip Cookie, although I only had a few small bites as the hubby ate most of it, haha. I liked that the orange flavour was noticeable. It was a nice twist on the traditional chocolate chip cookie. It was a bit too buttery for my preference and a tad too crumbly, but otherwise a pretty good cookie. Service was pleasant. The place was packed. Decor and ambiance I would describe as hipster cool. If you like popular places that are bustling, this is the place to be. I personally like quieter places with fewer people (although sadly this usually means that places I like don't always stick around). Our visit was in March. I imagine that this place is even busier in the summer. It's on the stretch of Sparks Street that is pedestrian only, so great for people watching if you sit by the window or on the patio during the warmer months when they have outdoor seating. Street parking only. Review #54 (2026)
