I took a picture of the bathroom for my checkin because I cannot think of an excuse for the bathroom to be this nasty. The floor was filthy, the toilet was dirty (buy a new one, they are $100!), the sink was gross. The bar itself was a pretty cool dive bar. My rum punch was bright orange, I asked what was in it, I don't think so, (rum, oj, pineapple, grenadine) looked a d tasted like orange koolaid. I despise OJ and would have detected the tiniest note of it. It was pretty good sized and if you like dive bars, check it out. read more

Mango is alright -- I just felt really crammed together and could barely move around, which made it a little hard to enjoy the night. The bartenders were super friendly though, and they kept things moving even with the crowd. They also have some really good drink specials, so I do recommend it for that. It's definitely a spot with potential if you don't mind tighter spaces. The music and energy are solid, and once you settle in, you can still have a good time. Walked in with our service dog. No real greeting or friendliness given. Stated that the dog needed "sit outdoors". Was grey and raining out. Noted that he was a service dog to the bartender. HE then said "still he needed to be outdoors". Left, will not return. Discriminatory, unpleasant, and not "friends of the fur". I had an extremely disappointing and upsetting experience at this bar on the night of my birthday due to the conduct of the woman who runs their karaoke nights. There's a review from about 6 months ago mentioning her using extremely racist and offensive language toward patrons, and unfortunately, it seems nothing has changed. My friend and I (both Black) came in and signed up to sing a song together like everyone else. Over the next 30-60 minutes, we watched the same group of people get multiple turns -- some as many as 3-4 -- while no new names were called. We remained patient. Eventually, I politely asked where we were in the queue, and was told we were song #19 while they were on #15. I thanked her and waited. Four or five songs later, those same people got up again, and we still weren't called. When I respectfully asked to verify our spot again, I was told -- incorrectly -- they were still on #15. When I calmly pointed out that this didn't make sense, she became hostile and incredibly inappropriate, raising her voice at me while her daughter joined in, cursing at me as well. I calmly walked away, but the host then began loudly shouting over the microphone at the entire bar, causing an unnecessary public scene simply because I asked a reasonable question. No rational person would react this way if it were an honest mistake. Considering the fact that only white patrons were called up to sing (with a few minorities only going up when accompanied by white friends), paired with her known history of using racist language, it's very plausible that the way we were treated was racially motivated. At the very least, it was biased and discriminatory behavior. We left immediately, along with a few other patrons, and I contacted the bar the next day to address this. No one from management ever followed up or made a good faith effort to address it. That sends a clear message that this business condones hostile, biased, and incredibly inappropriate behavior from their staff. If you're looking for a welcoming and enjoyable night out, I strongly recommend going elsewhere. read more

I used to like this place about 2 years ago, despite its filthy bathrooms, and no real food menu only a few microwaved items that I never ordered. It's not a real beach bar nor grille we all know it's a dive bar and I don't mind it's a dive bar. My average bar tab was usually high that I would drop consistently $100 per visit. However, something changed that left a bad taste in my mouth about new security staff being biased in kicking me out for no explanation. The worst thing I did in that dive bar was accidentally drop a beer glass mug cause that slipped out of my hand. It seems these two security guards one a middle aged bald guy and the other a bar back slash security guy always using an obvious biased decision to kick me out especially after the other security doormen let me in. Go figure huh? To this day they never said I was trespassed from Mangos and no valid reason. Is it discrimination? I am Asian so maybe or is it just personal one of these two security guys on a power trip don't like me I guess? What I do recall I really didn't do anything note worthy of type of trouble that may usually be a kick out or banned reason. One star because I have to. Wanted to go out for drinks at night. Walked in and the music was obnoxiously loud. Sat down in the back and everything I touched was sticky. I asked if the bartender could do a Moscow Mule and she said she could. What I received was tonic and lime that may or may not have had vodka in it. It was also served in a cloudy glass (it wasn't condensation). The bartender then disappeared for the remainder of the night. I didn't get to spend a whole lot of time at Mango's, but darn did I sure like the place. As others have said, it's divey as hell, but that's kind of the appeal of the place. They had karaoke going on and in between people belting out songs (one guy did a pretty good rendition of a GnR song) there was a DJ blasting some mostly decent music. Bartender was nice and she got everyone's drinks fast. Really cheap drinks, btw. I was shocked at how low the prices were. Best thing for me about this divey bar? I can smoke inside of it! Yes, I am a smoker. I'm one of those people that other people bitch about because they have to smell smoke or it gets on their clothes. Well, here's your fair warning.... this place is smokey as hell. So if that's a problem for you, stay far away from here because we will smoke, dammit! :D Hip-Hip Hooray for one of the last places a person can still smoke! As much as I hate driving over the ditch and going to the beach, I like this place so much that I might just make that drive over the ditch more often to come here! WOMEN & friends, Please avoid this place!! On 2/22/23 I dropped into this place for a quick drink and rest from being on foot exploring Jax. Beach. Within an hour frame, I had 2 drinks & was completely disoriented. My sister thank the divine did not consume any drink from this establishment so she was able to tell me the timeline factually. 3:15pm I was myself drinking on my 2nd ordered drink, I actually had her take a picture of me looking totally normal and my usual laid back demeanor was present. By 3:45 my memory is completely blacked out (I'm no lightweight either, I have testimony lol). I wasn't even able to lift my head or use my extremities correct. " coincidentally" enough, two men, who I personally have no recollection of (brown hair, Caucasian, brown eyes) came to the table with intentions of bringing me home with them! Thank goodness my sister declined and got me home. Flash forward, I was completely sedated with low respirations from 4pm-11pm. I woke up in & out of the night like I was on some anesthetic, consciously that's how it seemed. The morning of 2/23 I woke up and this feeling felt like no hangover I've ever had- it felt like my entire nervous system had been attacked. From my tongue, slurred speech, flimsy extremities, numb fingers, trouble moving my jaw etc. My finial conclusion is I was 100% drugged by people with horrifying intentions at this establishment. We went there for our first time Friday night. We weren't there long, maybe 10 mins. I was mostly excited because it seemed to be like a cool, down to earth bar with a punk rock vibe. The owner is likely running an illegal scam in which he is possibly getting paid kickbacks from A+ towing on Mayport Rd. for racking up as many towings as he can each night. The unlit "sign" in front of the parking area is made to be purposely unreadable. I've attached a picture of the sign for your viewing pleasure. It costs 200.00 to get your vehicle out of tow. He snapped his fingers at me like I was a child or an animal and pointed to the door to tell me to get out at 1:45 while I was sitting at a table by myself, completely sober with plenty of other people still in the bar. I informed him that my husband was in the restroom (peeing, mind you. not like he'd been in there for more than 1 minute) and I would leave with him as soon as he was finished and he told me I could wait OUTSIDE, at 1:45am, ALONE, as a female in a foreign place as we were visiting from out of state. Terrible experience all around. The couple we were with had a horrible experience with the short bartender in the Green Day shirt as well. He was on an ego trip 10000% acting as if he doesn't work for tips. There's a reason for the majority 1 star reviews. Whoever owns this bar needs to rethink their staff considering online reputations are crucial to the success of a business. Terrible bartenders! The worst I've ever seen. Been to Mango's Beach Bar twice. The first time the bartender was having a personal conversation with a customer for about 5 minutes. It's totally reasonable for bartenders to have long conversations when things are slow or something important happens. It was not slow. She should have just excused herself by moving off to the end of the bar to continue her conversation. I and two other customers were just standing there waiting for them to finish their conversation. Really awkward. Second visit was worse. I ordered a double from the bar manager. He did a short pour. A "4 count pour". Yes, I counted, it's a habit. I politely pointed out his mistake and he IMMEDIATELY GOT SUPER DEFENSIVE. Like a kid that just got caught with his hand in a cookie jar. He should have just owned up to it, corrected the pour and that would have been it. It was clear he was aggravated so just left a $1 tip and left. I've always have had a great time with my girlfriends here, but my last visit has changed my outlook completely. There was an incident when a woman was in front of me in line for the bathroom. She wanted to use the mens single restroom because there were no men present. A big, long haired security worker was yelling at her so I asked "But why? There is a long line and she needs to go"? Next thing I know, this short tempered large "man" throws me out to the police. I've never seen someone have such a power trip over bathrooms. The one police officer held me, got in my face and said I was "white privileged" and was mocking me. Did I miss something? What does any of this have to do about race? If you want to get technical, one could make this about sex. I called and filed a complaint on the police officer. And I won't stop there. Unfortunately, Mango's has some messed up, beneficial relationship, with the local "law enforcement" workers. Being a professional that works for the government, I have always supported law and order. That night, I was proven wrong..it's an oxymoron in 2021. It is heartbreaking to watch and then to be up close and personal to the current division that is happening in the United States. Shame on Mango's and shame on the police. Lesson learned, these people are not here to protect, they are here to abuse power however they please. I used to hang out at mangos when it was a genuinely authentic old school Dive Bar until Donna Banned me for telling her as a friend how much people absolutely despised her. Donna is no longer there the hoptinger management company has taken over and done minimal improvements and since I'm no longer banned I've started going back to Mangos after 6 years. This is a great place to drink beer only to drink your cheap nasty crappy pbr's they do not have any kind of craft beers anywhere in the building. My go-to drink is Tito's on the Rocks I had two of them and it was $20 so when you come to this bar drink beer only. I tried to go into mangos on sat night 9/16 at like 930 pm. I walked up as my normal jovial self with a positive demeanor and the door guy in a Grateful Dead bucket hat no less proceeded to tell me "not tonight sweetheart". Excuse me? This dude refused my entry with legit NO explanation. It was not busy. Not full. I certainly wasn't dressed inappropriately or anything of the sort. Two different men came up within a minute after me and immediately the door guy checked their id and allowed them entry. This guy didn't check my id. Nothing. Just told me "not tonight". Never in my life have I been turned away from an establishment. I had not been drinking. Did I piss this dude off in his dreams? Is he fatphobic? Does he have a problem with tattooed women? Idk what the issue is. I've lived in jax for 20 years and have been a patron of all types of establishments and never once had an issue anywhere. Never even been to mangos. Mango's is divey as hell. It is also cheap as hell. The bartenders might remind you of one of your friends' moms if they had lived a much much harder life. To my knowledge, it's the only place in the immediate area serving up Busch. Not even Busch Light, but full-flavored Busch. The music is loud and raucous, and is dished out by a jukebox on the wall. The crowd is pretty hip here. The jeans are one size tighter than the rest of Jax Beach, and you will probably see at least a few ironic mustaches. There are more square feet of tattoos here than the entire one mile radius. Mango's seems like a great place to end the night for two reasons: 1) You won't catch any judgment here. 2) You will leave smelling like mango's. Mango's, my little secret. I come here when I've had a long day at work, if I'm annoyed, if I'm bored or if I'm thirsty and I just feel like being alone. It's usually a Tuesday or Wednesday right after work and I typically never tell anyone what I'm doing. I've met some of the nicest locals here who are friendly with a smile and very quick to buy my next round of Budweiser (which happens to be my favorite beer that I only drink "on occasion"). Carol is definitely my favorite bartender! She's usually scheduled at 7 on week days and she's such a peach. This is the place you can come to when you want to be alone but not really alone.
