While shopping at Harrods, boyfriend and I stopped at Mango Tree for a quick lunch break. Mango Tree is asian fusion with an emphasis on dim sum that they say is made fresh daily by a Hong Kong dim sum master. I really liked the feeling of sitting at the "bar" of an open kitchen where we could watch the chef at work and our servers within arm's reach. While waiting for two seats to open up, the hostess took our order so that once we were sat, our food was ready and ready it was. Our servers were courteous and efficient
We ordered the blooming jasmine flower tea served in a clear glass tea kettle for two. I found the tea quite tasty and LOVED the tea set and watching the flower bloom, so pretty. I asked if the tea set was available for purchase at Harrods and while the servicegirl admitted it was, she recommeded I check out an asian tea shop in chinatown as it would be much cheaper. Loved her for that!
I started with the Prawn and Pork Wonton soup (8.50) which arrived three small dumplings in a small bowl in a clear broth. Although small, the soup was tasty nonetheless. We also ordered a few dim sum dishes since the dumplings were mostly served in threes. We ordered the prawn dim sum (7.95), Inside soup dumpling dim sum (19.50), and spare rib dumpling (7.50). Dumplings were yummy but with the pound kicking the dollars butt, our check total without tip amounted to 60something pounds or roughly $100something USD and I don't know about you but I can get a shitload of dim sum for the kind of money here in the states (holla Chinatown NYC or Arlington VA) and it probably tastes just as or even more delicious and authentic. But at least we can say we ate lunch at Harrods! Their food court and options sure beats any food court here in the states. read more
