Went on Sunday for dim sum and sushi to celebrate our son's birthday!!! Everything was awesome and I highly recommend the new special sushi roll with tempura shrimp stuffed with avocado!! Some of the reviews had me worried ... but I was needing a late lunch and sushi seemed perfect and I would be driving by the Mandarin Court. So, I pulled into the plaza and have to admit that the outside appearance made me hesitant to head in but I was already there. Just goes to show you that you can't trust outward appearances nor reviews that make one turn around from a possible wonderful experience. From the moment I walked in I was treated to outstanding and caring service! The young woman at the door welcomed me and assured me that I was not too late for the lunch specials. The gentleman waiting on me had to get up from his lunch (It was past 230 in the afternoon.) but did so with a simple smile. And as I looked around I was impressed by the elegance of the dining room and started to think about what my plans are for Chinese New Year because this certainly is an attractive dining room to bring friends to. Although the welcome was a good indicator, I knew this was going to be a very special lunch when the waiter delivered to my table both a hot pot of perfectly brewed tea and a glass of nicely chilled water. One I had made my selections a basket of "fried 'Chinese' noodles" arrived with a duck sauce and a mustard sauce. I have not had really good fried noodles in so long that I immediately began the process of devouring them. The sauces were ok on the better than average side of the scale but still ok. The lunch special gave me two rolls plus either soup or salads. I chose the miso soup and was rewarded with a bowl full of ingredients in the midst of a tasty broth. My only complaint is that the soup was luke warm and not hot but like the noodles, I finished off every single drop of soup!! The fish in each roll had that "clean fresh" taste that you absolutely expect in sushi. The bonus was the fact that this sushi chef provided me with an ample supply of pickled ginger and enough wasabi to suit my palate! In the middle of the meal the hostess stopped by to check in on me, which was a very nice touch. Other than my soup being warm ... can't think of any other criticism of what became a lovely unplanned late lunch plus since it was lunch time the meal came at a bargain price with the tea and noodles tossed in. As for my fortune cookie, which read "You should have chosen the shrimp" ... well perhaps next time I will because I am not curious about the Chinese side of the menu of this plaza-based Asian restaurant. While the food at Mandarin Court is normally good, I was very disappointed with the sushi platter. The fish was fairly bland and there was no choice in the selection which means you may get pieces you don't like. The website also does not have prices which can be frustrating when ordering for pick up and not knowing how much you will pay until you get there. read more

Food is good as it is in the other Mandarin Group restaurants, and I've been tolerant for a good long while. Unfortunately, the service is awful at this one, especially when ordering take-out food, and the poor response is consistent. The phone either rings incessantly, to the point where your plan interrupts with the recording that your party is not answering, or they're busy. Half the time when you get through, you're put on a long hold. The other half of the time you're disconnected. Lastly, when you finally get someone, it's usually someone with such a poor grasp of English that it's tough to understand. Can you hire at least one high school student who speaks English????! I love this restaurant. The complimentary duck sauce and wonton strips are so good. We had the vegetable fried rice, broccoli with garlic sauce, and avocado rolls. We've been frequenting the Mandarin restaurants in Deptford and Sewell for years. While the service at this location is definitely far gruffer than at sister location (as noted by other yelpers), the sushi is really good for SJ. And we actually got some very pleasant service last week. It only took 8 years, haha. But seriously, 8 years at least. The Chinese food isn't knock your socks off quality, but it's decent enough. They are open to modifications and requests. It's the sushi that keeps us coming back here though. The fish is fresh, the rice is well-seasoned & the rolls are delicious and large. My wife and I had dinner last night at Mandarin Court for the first time since the pandemic started. It was like going home after being away for so long. I've always loved Mandarin's food but I wasn't sure what to expect in today's economy. My wife and I were delighted with food. We told owner, May, that the food was better than ever. We had Scallion Pancakes and Spring Rolls for our appetizer. The pancakes were crunchy and full of scallions. The Spring Rolls were perfect--crunchy and not greasy at all. I ordered a bowl of my favorite soup--Hot and Sour. It was exactly as I remembered it. Delicious! For entrees we had Sesame Beef and Thai Lemongrass Chicken. Both dishes were executed perfectly. It was so good to finally be back at Mandarin Court! Can't wait to go again. read more

We actually tried this restaurant twice. however, I was severely disappointed. they literally served the worst egg rolls I have ever had. the egg rolls were filled with cabbage and nothing else. we won't even discuss the amount of corn starch they use in every dish. sauces were so thick and disgusting. SO INCREDIBLY DISAPPOINTING...We usually go for sushi and sometimes order soup AS well as Cooked items as we did on this occasion this evening. I have been going here since the early 2000's and have never been blown away by the service nor the food but it has always been a solid choice. Something has transpired to the detriment of both cuisine and service alike. We Came with a chilled Bottle Of rosé, we were sat immediately and unpacked our bottle. Our sever came Over with cold water and hot dripping wet wine glasses for the wine. After I polished the glasses for my Companion and I, we poured the wine.... perused the menu and settled on a few options, but we had 2 menu questions for the server. He finally emerged from the kitchen after numerous minutes of quite obnoxious noisy clattering of dishes, shouting audible from the kitchen in an Asian language and a very bad attitude to Boot. I can deal with normal Restaurant background noise- this was not that. This was shouting and deliberate clattering of dishware.... jarring to someone trying to enjoy their dinner. My companion and I were already uneasy and beginning to become uncomfortable. He scurried to our table, not looking up and Says "You know what you want???" I asked my menu questions he said it was not available and we ordered. Sushi was mediocre at best, I asked for spicy sauce and had to get up and ask the sushi chef bc my server was not present tableside yet I knew exactly where he was from the constant noisy clatter of dishware on the back corner. Coconut lemongrass soup was AWFUL...tasted like A can of coconut Milk was dropped into water with sparse mushrooms And boiled chicken added.... $9 down the drain. We asked for it packed up and the server plopped a quart container and a lid next to the bowl and scurried off. When we asked for an ice bath for our chilled wine we were given a dish of ice for our bottle... sushi was dropped in front of us without an explanation which roll was which, no check back was given to ask if we needed anything and the $7 we left in gratuity was $7 too much. Upon paying, We told the woman at the front how awful it was and she was apathetic at best. They do a huge take out business and I presume Our bad experience was not enough to deter diners or affect her bottom line ... DONT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY. read more

We have gone to the Mandarin Court for every family event for years. My son made his First Communion and since they were not open for dining we ordered to go. We had a huge order (12 people) and they got everything perfect. We ordered apps, sushi and many entrees. The quality was just as good as when we are in the restaurant and it was so all delicious. This place has gone completely down hill! I ordered a Kani salad and they threw a clump of sauce on top of crab/cucumber. Take comfort in the familiar breaded and fried pieces of chicken steeped in a thick, sweet sauce that is the General Tso's and orange chicken. Drown your sorrows in the dumpling sauce...or at least drown the pan-fried dumplings because they might need it. Hark! The sushi! It's a blinding bright spot in the otherwise dim and banal Chinese menu. The Philly roll might have crab instead of salmon, but we haven't found much we didn't like. Rest assured, nothing is terrible, the ingredients seem just fine, you just might not be "WOWED." That being said, everyone has been very nice to us. The service to carry out is a bit slow - they seem to be very busy on some nights. The dine in service was prompt in some ways, but lagging in others. We did not, however, want for crispy noodles and duck sauce. That was brought aplenty. We will be back, and I welcome Mandarin Court to bring the WOW factor that might bump this up to a 4 star review. read more

I guess this place isn't simply Mandarin or even wholly Chinese. What they lack on authenticity in that regard they gain back in diversity of offering. All things considered we were a fan. A truly bad Chinese restaurant. We dined in. Sushi is decent and that's the reason it gets 2 stars. Plus my toddler was able to get an order of chicken nuggets, not often seen on a Chinese menu, so for once she had something she would eat (it's not listed on the eat-in menu, only the take out). Service was mediocre, the older waiter couldn't tell us what red text in the menu meant. (It meant spicy of course.) The Chinese food was nearly inedible. I ordered veg chow fun, which was coated heavily in a very generic and salty soy sauce mixture, hardly any veggies. Husband ordered mu shu beef, only 4 pieces of meat and so salty he could barely eat any of it. The only good part was that the waiters promptly deducted my meal off the check (they seemed to expect the complaints!) and our barely edible meal was just $23.
