The postal was interesting but needed something more to stand out. The calamari was off, like they weren't really calamaris and were some type of mcnugget version of calamaris. They lacked that snap of the skin when you bite into a calamari and the texture wasn't what you expect of a normal calamari. Looking at the inside looked processed. Fortunately our waiter noticed our two of our plates had a lot left on them and asked us why. He took the calamaris off the the bill and I appreciated that. That gesture alone brought this rating to a 3.

It's a tiny Churrería, with only a couple of tables and the bar. It's not a tourist place, it doesn't have a shiny sign above the door, and all the customers are people from the neighborhood. Everybody knows each other so the place has a warm and personal feeling. The chocolate is thick and delicious as Spanish chocolate should be, and the churros are the best I've tried in Salamanca so far. The only problem is that the opening hours are short. You may not know that Churros are for breakfast in Spain, but it's true, so it opens really early in the morning (not sure about the time), but closes at 11.30am!! Get up early and start your day here like a real Spanish person!

After dinner, I stepped up to the bar and asked to speak to the manager, and the portly, slightly scruffy gentleman indicated that I could speak with him. When I had related what had taken place, he said that I had a nice meal and said that I should "leave him alone." Shocked, I politely asked for his name. He refused to give it, which is why I described him as portly and slightly scruffy because I have no other way to identify him. So if you are eating alone and perhaps even in a group, chances are not small that you will be treated with as much understanding and civility as I was. The food was good. The drink was good. The atmosphere was good. The servers were kind and helpful. The portly, scruffy, nameless "boss" thoroughly ruined what might have been a perfectly lovely evening.
