Then I receive a phone call for the estimate to be changed to 6p. This seems like the worst time management planning. I was told he was further out than expected.. that tells me he really didn't plan for traffic.. poor planning doesn't work for me. Mike did a total facelift of our home in Menlo Park two years ago, which included new windows and doors, replacing wood shingle siding with stucco, new stonework, new roof, down-to-the-studs remodel and soundproofing the Master Bedroom, front yard landscaping, etc, and we are very happy with the result. It feels like a new home, done the way we want it. The pros of working with Mike: 1) he stays on schedule. My experience with other contractors has been that they are not good at project management, miss their timelines and charge considerably more than their estimates. This doesn't happen with Mike. 2) highest quality materials and work, done with attention to detail. In many cases, I felt like Mike was correcting mistakes made in the original construction (such as reframing the master bedroom ceiling). 3) he had ideas for the project that we didn't have but made the project better (such as converting our garage to one large door instead of two small doors, finishing the eaves, using wood paneling on the ceilings of the front and rear porches, etc). 4) he was very quick to respond and solve problems, often within minutes. 5) he stays on cost. There were no surprises in the bills. The only time things costed more was when we decided to expand the scope of the project, which we did on several occasions. The cons of working with Mike: 1) I think he is more expensive than the average contractor. For us, it was well worth the cost to stay on schedule and have such high quality, beautiful work done on our home. Also, but not unique to Mike, don't underestimate how disruptive it is to remodel. It was hard on our family, but now we have a beautiful new home to live in, and I thank Mike and his crew and all the subcontractors for that.

The master bedroom was minimal with repaint and adding a wall of nickel-gap shiplap. We also added a barn door to create a dramatic separation between the bedroom and bathroom spaces. The big part is our master bathroom - this required a tear down to the studs of the entire space. We had to move a wall with power, HVAC lines and plumbing to create a pony wall for the shower. Rock Bay worked hand-in-hand with IDF Studio - our design firm - to install hardwood floors, a cast-iron tub, special Spanish tile, and Italian marble. Roei and Jorge and the entire team were artisans installing walnut wood beams in the ceiling, Calacatta Monet marble, Spanish tile, hand-crafted wood floors, designer niches in the walls, and all the professional design elements. The end result is a zen space that we will enjoy for the life of our home!

They paid close attention to details and were ready to overcome any obstacles that come up. For instance, for all of the tile work, my husband and I bought too little tile which sucked. Omar was kind and patient and even thought of ways to use tiles more efficiently. He not only helped us figure out how to use the existing tiles more efficiently but also offered helpful suggestions for supplemental tile options.
