For my first two driving lessons, I had an instructor named Tom. He was very patient, never raised his voice, and always spoke in a calm and understanding way. He knew it was my first time driving and made the experience feel safe and encouraging. On my third lesson, I was assigned an instructor named Johnny. From the start, he was aggressive sharply pointing out my mistakes and yelling when I had trouble changing gears. He kept telling me to go over the speed limit, even though there was a car very close in front of me, which felt unsafe. He also told me to keep looking up, but that made it difficult to see the speedometer, which only added to my stress. He would playfully punch my arm during the lesson, but it didn't feel appropriate and came across as unprofessional. Because of this experience, I didn't feel comfortable or supported during the lesson. It made me realize how important it is to have an instructor who is calm, respectful, and professional, especially when you're just starting out. If you decide to go through this driving school, I highly recommend asking for Tom and not Johnny!! read more

Employees are very rude and their lessons contradict each other. They were extremely impatient, and definitely should not be teaching with that attitude. However, my son did pass the driving test with their 1 hour review. Not worth the money. I hope they retrain their employees to have some customer service or at least know how to drive properly! read more

My son received his first lesson without any issues. His second lesson and road test were scheduled for May 18, 2020. Because the school could not do the lesson or bring my son to his scheduled road test due to covid/pandemic, we requested a refund. They agreed to the refund and said it was in the mail, however, as of today 1/6/2022 I still have not received the refund. I spoke with Jamal last year who said he was putting it in the mail again. Since June 11, 2021 my daughter still has not received her permit. I was stood up when I had appointment to pick up. Employees all rude very unprofessional, Instructor shoved my daughter in shoulder as she was driving. Could not understand what he was trying to tell her. Language barrier. Yelled at her during the training. Worse of all its been 6 weeks and they don't answer their phone or call back. STILL NO PERMIT. read more

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS DRIVING SCHOOL!!! My daughter had Jamal as her instructor. He was very rude and intimidating as soon as she got into the car. He spoke loudly and sternly and made her feel very UNCOMFORTABLE, which is not a good combination when driving. He then proceeded to leave her in the car alone while he went into his office to meet with another potential customer for over 20 minutes. When she came home she was very shaken up and upset. I called to speak with him, which getting someone on the phone was a challenge in itself. When I finally got him on the phone he proceeded to raise his voice with me telling me that my daughters feelings as well as mine were wrong. At that point I realized that this business relationship could not continue. I did not feel safe allowing my daughter back into a car with anyone at this place of business. I asked for a partial refund since he did do the two hours with her and I felt that it was only fair for him to keep what he felt he was owed. I have sent numerous emails to resolve this issue amicably. I have been given numerous excuses to be pushed off including he needed to speak with management/owner regarding the refund. To date I have not heard back regarding said resolution. I do not do bad reviews but feel I have been given no other choice. read more

My son paid Manalapan Driving school $385.00 on 9/28/21 for six hours of driving instruction. He passed his written exam at his high school. My son contacted Jamal on 5/24/22 for scheduling six hours of driving instruction. Jamal said he was booking times in September 2022. Waiting four months was not acceptable. He asked for a refund of $385.00, and Jamal said he would oblige. After approximately 20 phone calls, mostly unanswered. He was mailing a check that never arrived. I sent a certified letter to his office that was never signed for. I went to the office an employee said he would give him the certified letter. He finally called me and said he was overnighting a check that requires a signature. The check never arrived, and my phone calls are not returned. My son finished his six hours on driving instruction with another driving school that was a pleasure to deal with. read more

The most unprofessional place I've ever encountered. Jamal was a half hour late picking up my daughter for her road test this morning. I still don't know exactly what happened because of course he will not take any accountability but, he scheduled her test for a different day. 2 weeks earlier. Then blamed me for his mistake. Ended up leaving my daughter in the pouring rain and almost ran my foot over when he drove away in the middle of me talking. He is rude, inconsiderate, has zero patience and should not be in the position of being alone with teenagers. He has an accent and it's hard to understand him sometimes and he becomes frustrated if you ask him to repeat himself. My daughter was afraid to ask him anything because he was so aggressive. They never answer the phone or respond to emails. We called 4 times last week and left messages so we were prepared for today with no response. We had to repeatedly go to the office before he would call us back. I would never recommend this disaster of a place or the guy Jamal we had. So now we have to go to a DMV an hour away so we can get in this week. Or wait months. He had a smirk on his face like he didn't care one bit and just left us there. The worst. read more

Alex is extremely rude and condescending. He will tell you he is an expert and knows everything, and you know nothing. He will tell you not to reply to what he says, and then reprimand you for not replying to what he says. He failed to send the dates of the lessons, then showed up and charged a $75 fee for not being available, even though nothing was confirmed. He then stated that the $75 could only be paid in cash and if it was not paid all progress made this far would be scrapped. He was unbelievably unprofessional and a downright bully. He has little to no manners and is not capable of teaching as his patience is non-existent. During a lesson he had the driver cut off a group of kids practicing in the parking lot so he could reprimand them for using his cones, extremely unprofessional especially when time is limited and not on his dime. Everything about this school screamed stay away the moment the initial call with the instructor ended. If you are looking for any sort of professionalism or courtesy whatsoever do not use this school, any available option is surely better. read more

Just terrible! I had the misfortune of choosing Manalapan Driving School for my driving test and what a mistake that was. My instructor Alex was at times instructive and helpful but at other times he was very frustrating and difficult to drive with. Over the summer when I had to reschedule my test due to Covid-19 I talked on the phone with the owner Jamal and he was extremely rude and didn't seem interested in helping me it just sounded like he wanted to get off the phone. I had a great experience with Manalapan Driving School. The cars and instructors are the best in this school. I was very lucky to have Jamal as an instructor, for the most of my lessons. He is an amazing teacher, very patient and professional, reliable and friendly! He gave me the confidence of driving that I needed and taught the tricks of parallel parking. I took part in the 6 hours and my instructor Alex was rude and thought he knew everything there is to know, he would not answer my questions and expected me to know everything like this is a driving school you need to teach me. Not only are these services overprice but on the very first day they messed my schedule up by telling me to be ready at 1 PM Saturday by email, I had important after school activities that I had to attend and then I called and they messed up my time. They told me the class would start at 4 pm. The instructor didn't care that he wasted my time and I had the most annoying 6 hours of my life. He would rather complain than teach me the right way. If you are thinking of making your child go here DON'T save your time and money. read more

I don't even know the name of my child's instructor, but he was very rude from what I heard. He was constantly yelling, and telling my child not to "think" about anything, and to have common sense. He was very impatient and distressed my child very much before the road test. I would absolutely not recommend this company to anyone looking for a friendly experience because the instructor created a hostile environment and slammed the brakes numerous times without warning. When my child was turning on the left indicator, the instructor thought they weren't fast enough and reached across to hit the indicator himself. The instructor was very verbally abusive and would not even answer any of my child's questions. I am not reviewing the services of the company yet rather the stupidity and inability of the instructors. While driving on Route 9 in Howell on Sunday, October 7 I encountered a dark colored mini-cooper with Manalapan Driving School stickers on it. It clearly had to be an instructor since he was the only occupant. After passing the vehicle while in the right lane, he decided he needed to switch lanes right than and there in the tiny opening between myself and the car behind me. He cut off the car behind me at the same time I was stopping thus almost causing a 3 car accident. When he realized such he flew back into the left lane and sped off resulting in the car he cut off having to fly into the shoulder in an effort not to rear end me. Case in point if the instructor doesn't know how to drive themselves, how can they teach someone who is new at driving? I will also be contacting the state of NJ to have this company investigated. This driving school is abusive. My sons 17th birthday was today. Unfortunately, we chose this driving school. The guy my son had, was verbally abusive. He said to my son, "your lucky I'm still giving you information, it's 6 minutes after your hour". He made my son very uncomfortable going into the driving test that he almost didn't want to do it. So I hope in the future that any other children who want to use this driving school, STAY AWAY AND HAVE A GOOD EXPERIENCE SOMEWHERE ELSE. To finish up this horrible experience, the driver drove my son to motor vehicle, dropped him off there and assumed that we would give him a tip. He stood out in front of my son smoking a cigarette and next thing I new he just walked away not even say a word of "congratulations" or even a "happy birthday". read more

Absolutely awful treatment throughout the process. Driving instructor was violent and retaliatory for even the smallest of mistakes by a new driver. Would often stomp on the brakes at high speeds as a form of punishment for a minor mistake. Jamal, who is the owner and negotiates contracts, is misleading and misinforms customers in order to charge them more. Contract is of dubious legality. Freehold Driving School, located 10 minutes away, is far more friendly, welcoming, and is cheaper. Please, do not give this miserable excuse of a business your time or money. read more
