Wow! What an incredible experience with Sandy Creek! Michelle and Angie are the absolute best!…read more From the very start, communication was great! Angie toured us around the Farm and then explained the entire process. Sandy Creek was the only venue we toured. We fell in love with the property, the scenic route to the property, and the Staff and knew it was meant to be! After booking the property for our date, communication was constant and consistent! Rain was shown on the forecast leading up to the day of the wedding- which was planned to be mostly outdoors. Michelle took all of my stress and worries away by being so prompt and Knowledgeable about what to do. One hour before the ceremony, the decision was made to move everything indoors to the Stables and Michelle and Angie facilitated the move with our vendors, guests, and bridal party flawlessly! The only thing bad I have to say about Michelle and Angie is the sadness that we now have knowing our time with them has come to an end. To Michelle and Angie- we cannot thank you both enough for the reassurances, for the help, for the words of wisdom, and for your patience. Because of you both, our wedding day was amazing and we will have incredible memories lasting a lifetime! Thank you Sandy Creek Farms!

The kids said the pull out sofa beds were just as or more comfortable than the hampton inn we stayed at on our way to Tennessee. The king bed was super comfy and we had all the linens and little extras we needed. We used the communal kitchen in the barn every day for breakfast and dinner. We used the paddle boat on the lake and played corn hole and other games at the barn. The property is beautiful- my daughter wants to get married here she'll just need to wait 13 years or so because she is 12 lol the location of the chefs cabin and bungalows were great- very near to the laundry facilities, barn and greenhouse. The lakefront cabin is small and would be nice for a couple - I couldn't believe how nice that spot was though. A huge screened in deck, a large covered deck and a dock. If there weren't so many of us, would have loved to stay there as well. We will definitely be back.

There is a campground/RV park in behind the bar and General Store. Very clean and well maintained. I've stayed there a couple of nights in the past. I've been told that on Tuesday's they have an amazing steak dinner. I've never been there for that, but I'm looking forward very much to trying it soon. Of course, in my Yelp Elite fashion, I will update my review!

The owner Mary was very accommodating to our family and always very warm and welcoming when we stopped in the store. All the campers were the same. We were tent camping but Mary let us set up in front of a rental camper so we could use the electric to charge to boat and she was even gave us access to the camper to use the restroom and wash our dishes. She ever notified us that a neighboring camper was putting their camper up for sale and was just what we were looking for. We are now considering buying the camper and having a place up there of our own.

The Dover Hotel (Surrender House): Famous for being the location of Confederate General Simon Buckner's surrender to Union General Ulysses S. Grant on February 16, 1862, ending the fighting at Fort Donelson. The hotel was built between 1851-1853. In early 1862, it became the headquarters for General Buckner, 1 of 3 Confederate generals at Fort Donelson at the time. He was, however, the only general remaining at the time of surrender. Confederate generals Buckner, John Bell Floyd, and Gideon Pillow met at the nearby Rice House (no longer standing) around 1:30 AM on the 16th to discuss what to do after the Confederates had failed to escape to Nashville earlier on the 15th. Floyd, who was first in charge, didn't want to be captured (Floyd was a former Secretary of War under James Buchanon, and was under indictment for conspiracy and fraud), so he turned command over to Pillow. Pillow didn't want to be captured either so he turned his command over to Buckner. Both men then snuck away before sunrise. Floyd and two regiments of infantry escaped on a steamship, and Pillow left by himself in a small boat. With Floyd and Pillow gone, Brigadier General Simon Bolivar Buckner was left in command and had the unenviable task of negotiating surrender terms with Grant. But when Buckner asked for terms, Grant's reply was that "no terms except unconditional and immediate surrender can be accepted." Buckner with little choice reluctantly accepted. On February 16th, Grant arrived at Buckner's headquarters at the Dover Hotel. Buckner surrendered Fort Donelson and its approximately 13,000 defenders to U.S. Grant, who earned the nickname "Unconditional Surrender" Grant. After the battle, Union troops used the hotel as a hospital. Beyond the war, it changed ownership many times. By the late 1920s the structure was in poor condition and slated to be torn down. However, local citizens wanted to preserve it for historical purposes, and the Fort Donelson House Historical Association was formed. After a restoration project, the building, now called the Fort Donelson House, opened to the public in 1930. It was donated to Fort Donelson National Battlefield in 1959. It is the only original structure standing today where a Civil War surrender took place.
