After a short 10 minute walk we located the establishment up one floor from the street. We were greeted immediately an shown to a table. The restaurant was bright and cheery with many families enjoying their surroundings. I was expecting to wait as the restaurant was very busy but within minutes our server took our drink order. The menu for just the pizzas and Calzones were more choices than anyone should have reason to ask for not to mention the pasta and meat choices. Again, once we ordered the pizza the food appeared within 15-20 minutes. The pizzas are said o be a portion for 1 person but we found with an appetizer an one pizza 2 of us were more than satisfied.

A favorite that's hard to trade in for an alternative is their penne Siciliana -- gooey cheese...perfectly cooked pasta...tasty tomato sauce and a little kick of spice at the end to keep you honest. If I'm feeling healthy, I'll start with a melee or arugula salad. Portions are good-sized for all options so either plan to carbo-load or skip a few meals before going so you can *enjoy* it all. Some day I'll have to take the leap and try their other pastas (the bolognese / carbonara / lasagna all look amazing) and pizzas -- I have no idea what the tables next to me ordered but it's taking every ounce of willpower to keep from reaching over and asking to taste a slice!! This little spot by the train station will always have a warm spot in my heart and I will absolutely visit whenever I can. Hopefully it will continue to be here years from now so my niece & nephew can be part of the experience as well!

So I had a craving and decided to walk thru the doors once again after many years. Friendly waitress seated me and my drink arrived mins later - just as expected. Ordered a vegetable salad and a pizza. Salad was great, super fresh vegetables Julienned with that great tart and tasty dressing. It really could have been a small meal by itself- didn't disappoint. Then the pizza came.... The jambon was lukewarm, the champignons cool to the touch and the crust wasn't crisp.... Actually soggy and doughy. Had a few bites and I was done. Asked for the check- she asked if I wanted to take the pie home and I declined- said it wasn't fully cooked. She grabbed the pizza and threw it into the garbage with disdain. Didn't offer a discount, rain check, so I paid my bill but frankly, how does that happen in a pizzeria? That's what you serve ... pizza pie. Sad but everything changes.

Here is what we noticed: - When we arrived, it was a little hot, so we opted to sit indoors, not realizing that we would be sitting near the open windows by the outdoor smoking section so be aware. - The menu is quite expansive, with lots of homemade pastas and pizzas. There were a lot of other interesting dishes that we wish we could try, but we just didn't need more than a couple. - We ordered a bottle of white wine and the server brought out the wrong one (a red). Luckily, we noticed it before it was opened and he brought out something else since the one we ordered apparently wasn't available. It ended up being really good! - We ordered a dozen snails, and eventually he served us four of them, indicating that they were all out, but that we wouldn't be charged. That was too bad because they were delicious and we wish they had had more. - We ordered the Quattro Fromaggio Pizza and the Tortellini Scampi for both of us to share. They were both excellent! - Service was OK, but our server got less attentive as the place got more crowded. It took forever for us to get our check and pay at the end even though we asked a couple of times. Bottom line: La Gioconda hit the spot for our first night in Geneva. It's not cheap but we didn't expect otherwise.
