Ate at Casa Valerio in 2014 and thought it was awesome back then and so happy to say it's still fabulous! Great and friendly service, including the owner cutting your pizza for you! So cute, cozy and clean. Love the mini tureen of cold gazpacho with skinning breadsticks they start you off with. The Cesar salad was unlike any other I have had, very hearty and delicious! Wonderful carpaccio and pizzas too. Be sure to call ahead for reservations as it fills up quickly and tightly so! read more

Both the spaghetti bolognese and the pizza Bianca Della Casa were delicious! And the prices were very reasonable 14-14.50 Euros each! Bonus: the view of the river! Before dinner, there were breadsticks in little packages to help stave off hunger while we waited for our meals. The food came out within 10-15 minutes and was brought with a bread basket, grated Parmesan, and chili oil. Although the male server (maybe owner?) wasn't super friendly - he was more perfunctory - we didn't have any complaints since the overall experience was so good for us. read more

The food was pretty decent here but the rest of the experience was like something out of a Monty Python skit lampooning French waiters. After waiting for quite a while for any attention, the waiter arrived to take our order. With each persons order his eye rolls became more expressive (btw the pizzas we ordered as appetizers were delicious as were the salades and veal dishes) so much so that we felt like laughing at each order.Then we order wine asking for a specific Italian white which the waiter then insisted was not a white and in any event they did not have that wine and the only white they had was a Pinot Gris. We then pointed to the list and asked for a Chardonnay and he said fine with a harrumph. We ordered a specific red we as well. The wines arrived and were promptly opened even though the red was not the wine we ordered. We drank it anyway. The pizzas came as did the salads and we waited for the entrees. The waiter returned (before the entrees) and said desert or are you ready for the check. We meekly suggested that our entrees had not arrived at which he sneered at us and we then said by the way we would like another red - the one we originally ordered. He turned without any acknowledgment. The entrees arrived. No wine. We asked his colleague if we could get the aforementioned wine. 5 minutes later our waiter shows up with two bottle of JJ red which he then literally tosses in front of me onto the table (luckily they did not break) and says "sir which one do you want!?" Neither one was the one we wanted off the list. We said - thank you we will take that one - opened it and walked away. As it turned out the wines were much much cheaper than the one we had tried to order. We were a group of 5 Americans in a French resort restaurant who were trying to not be "ugly" Americans. Absolutely perfect dinner! They think out of the box and nail every dish. The caprese salad was served with a dollop of basil ice cream, which started the night off with a surprisingly delicious and creative tone. I'm a sucker for honey on pizza, and paired with goat cheese it was simply heavenly. The creme brûlée was creamy and crispy. Food and wine list is good. However, if you don't speak Italian or French, they will ignore you. We had dinner one night that was amazing. We stopped in for drinks and dessert and we were ignored, of course the local at the bar was acknowledged. Highly recommended Casa Valerio for authentic Italian cuisine, attentive and friendly service and a very nice decor/ambiance. We stopped in for lunch based on other Yelp reviews. Typically, we have a few "go to" places in Chamonix, but this time we wanted to try something new. Well, we were not disappointed!!! The "plat du jour" had two options: a 15€ and a 17€ option. Both were so good, but we all settled on the three-course, option that started with a lovely, fresh mozzarella and plum tomato salad w/drizzled olive oil. This was followed by home made, fresh spaghetti in a tomato/basil red sauce, followed by either glacé or panna cotta natural. The food was Fantastic!!! And we saw that they had won a silver medal for pizza back in 2012. The pizzas and calzones looked amazing. We started with a kir royale and then had the house red. Both selections were amazing. We finished w/some cappuccinos and a espresso which were some of the best we've ever had. Lovely views of the mountain stream flowing by and gracious waitstaff. We will make this our "usual" spot when we return to Chamonix. read more

The food was good, but the service was awful. As appetizer we were given just plain bread. When we said we'd like to pay we waited for 10 minutes before asking for the bill again. Surprisingly awesome Italian food in Chamonix. I have to be honest- when traveling to Chamonix I don't expect to get my fill of anything but rich tourists wearing brand name snow gear and overpriced food and drinks. However, this place blew me away with its charm and food. Authentic, delicious restaurant on a small side street just off one of the main squares in Chamonix. The restaurant is quite large- filling the first floors of two different buildings and including a large bar and pizza oven. What really drew us in to the restaurant was the extensive menu posted outside. We ordered the homemade lasagna and the truffle pasta with a demi-liter of wine to was it down. They were generous with the truffle shavings in the pasta, and the dish was so fragrant that we smelled it coming. Perfection! The lasagna was also to die for- and unique- with a special bechamel-like top, as opposed to the familiar mozzarella layers. Even the wine was excellent! We feel so fortunate to have found this hidden gem, and I can't wait to come back to try more of their menu. read more

Came here with a group of 14 and the service couldn't have been better. The waiters were attentive and made sure we had an amazing dining experience. The location is a serious bonus, as it is close to centre ville but also set-back on a quieter road. The river runs behind the restaurant and the dining rooms are quaint and cozy. Wonderful little place with a great atmosphere but we didn't find the food to be as good as other reviews (but it also didn't look as good as the other photos so maybe we were unlucky). I had a tropicale pizza for €14 and my friend had a calzone. We both felt they were about 3/5 and nothing to go back for but they certainly weren't bad. The crust was 4/5 for sure. That coupled with very good house red that was inexpensive for a ski resort at €4/125ml glass and an enjoyable ambiance meant we still left smiling. Our home-away host had this restaurant on its recommendation list. And we decided to try it out for dinner. I had the Spaghetti alla carbonara, tried some of the pizzas as well. Both entries were incredibly delicious. The carbonara was tasty, and not very creamy which I really enjoyed (very authentic). And for dessert, I had the chocolate panna-cotta which was also nicely made. It had the perfect consistency (like jello mousse) and the flavor was subtle but the chocolate sauce enhanced the flavor. After waking up with a hankering for Spaghetti Bolognese, our search for a yummy Italian spot led us to La Casa Valerio. We left more than satisfied. The atmosphere was warm and cozy - perfect on a snowy day. Tables by the window overlook the river that runs through the center of Chamonix. Their wine list was extensive and reasonably priced, and we were glad we didn't have to break the bank for delicious Italian. Our food came promptly and the waiters were responsive to any requests or questions that we had. To say the homemade spaghetti was delicious would be an understatement. Overall, we enjoyed our experience and ended up returning a few days later with a larger group. I would recommend Casa Valerio for their massive pizza menu and delicious pastas. My trip to Chamonix has been amazing. The views, the activities were all fascinating. The food, however, hadn't been all that enjoyable. Most likely, it's perhaps my not so palatable palate. I have tried two Savoyarde restaurants, but haven't really find my way to truly enjoy them. Having return to Chamonix from Italy, we were looking for an escape from all the fondue options. This place seems to be exceptionally priced and crowded on a nightly basis. Located on the south side of the river and out of the more popular main street, Rue Joseph Vallot, you find this gem tucked meters southwest of Les Monchu and the historical Casino. I have been here twice. One for a post UTMB dinner and another for a long lunch. Outside of the usual menu, there are a few lunch special set menu that are worthy of looking at. It ranges from 13 to 19 Euro. The set usually comes with a choice of salad, pasta, dessert, and a coffee, excluding the most expensive option off then all which serves the fillet of gilthead sea bream. The salads of those set course are quite substantial. A tomato, mozzarella salad with basil and arugula served on the side. Simple, yet delicious. The pastas here seem to be consistently executed in terms of quality. The lasagne I had from the set lunch menu was creamy but not overwhelming. The panna cotta with lemon liqueur was also very good and refreshing. La Casa Valerio has also won numerous awards from its pizza making. The scallop pizza was the only pizza I have eaten. Maybe a tad bit too cheesy but the white wine, garlic and fresh scallop was so good on the pizza. Coffee in Chamonix is a hit or miss. That said, the espresso here is definitely good to have at the end of a meal. Highly recommend this gem! read more

Found this place accidentally when nothing else was open and sure glad we did. Ended up going three times while in Chamonix for a hockey tournament. They accommodated two nights of 10 plus with no notice and one night included the kids! Delicious Italian restaurant nearby the city center of Chamonix. During peak season, the place is often fully booked so I suggest you call to make a reservation. The inside of the restaurant looks authentic, with local decoration. Food there is really good, I have tried the minestrone, lasagnas, and the smooth chocolate cake. Truffle taglierini and tiramisu looked delicious as well. Drink a glass (of a few glasses!) of Italian wine while enjoying the food and your meal will be ideal! Finally, service was perfect. The food was good (not great) and the service was poor. I'd still recommend it because of the extensive menu however they seem to cater to large parties which means the place becomes very loud. That's fine, not a deal breaker, however I thought my waiter was condescending and that was really awkward... I ordered a drink and it was wrong and I asked to have another but that was wrong as well! Then they charged me 15 euros for it even though I sent it back with my apologies (sorry I'm Canadian I can't help it). This place was amazing. The service was excellent and the food really stood out. The combination of flavors was well planned and nothing weighed too heavily, leaving plenty of space for dessert. We started with an antipasto and proseco. Before that arrived, however, they served a mini caprese shooter so to speak. The perfect mix of basil, mozzarella, and tomato in spreadable form. Then our main dishes: spaghetti ali olio, calamari, and lasagne, oh the lasagne. Everything was great, the spaghetti had the perfect spiciness, the calamari was perfectly fried and paired with the most amazing sauce, but the lasagne, mmm.... it melted in my mouth and was so light. Finally the dessert: tiramisu, panna cotta al limón cello, and creme bulle. All were good but the true star was the panna cotta. It was just magic. I hope to never have to come here again. The owner is extremely hostile and exploitative, she underpays her employees, or not at all. I am an American living in France, I worked here under the assumption that I would be contracted but was not; I have multiple years of experience in restaurants in the US and have never been so disrespected by an employer -- I was yelled at, ignored for weeks, insulted behind my back, and underpaid, all because I wanted to be compensated for my work. You can bet if she treats her servers this terribly she will treat her customers rudely as well. The menu is shockingly overpriced for small portions. Get your Neapolitan pizza in Courmayeur for 8 euros and avoid this frantic and unpleasant place. read more

From totally perfect pizza to yummy pasta Casa Valerio has a great atmosphere that is both suited to the discerning diner looking for a great italian meal with superb wine and for those looking for a family friendly restaurant that can handle the more down to earth tastes of young & old alike. You really do need to book in advance if you can - same day will do it and you can always get a seat early evening - say 7.00pm, and even when the place is full, if you're happy to sit at the 'bar' they will try and find a place for you, the service is friendly and they are all great characters too from Fanny - the ball of energy who runs the show down to the pizz chef busily tossing the dough in front of you with a genuine wood burning oven! As a regular february chamonix ski bum, we have Valerios as our first choice for pizza & beer and you can't beat the feeling of walking in after a day on the mountain knowing you;re about to have a great, simple, delicious meal in warm surroundings. And I really like the fact that they have excellent wines available by the glass so you don't need to buy a bottle to enjoy something a little better than the usual house red or white. Not sure why this is rated so highly. I thought it was just okay. We both had pasta and it was good but nothing over the top. Portions were on the smaller side for our pasta dishes. I was put off by one of the workers sitting at an empty table by us smoking making rude comments to his buddy about Americans.
