I came here on a recommendation from a friend. It is a small shop that takes togo orders and it appears to be a really big kitchen. There is some outdoor seating and 4 parks in the back of the building. The offer a variety of bowls and smoothies. I ordered the acai bowl and I didnt love it. I think I need more toppings perhaps who knows. I didn't live the consistency and I found their granola to be interesting. Kind of like frosted flakes. I do plan to explore the menu more due to my friends advocacy for this place. The fruit did taste fresh.
Mamaka Bowls in the Heights is a charming little spot. The space itself is small and quaint, with no indoor seating, but there are a few tables out front that make for a pleasant place to sit when the weather's nice. Parking can be a bit tricky. The tiny lot behind the house-like building is easy to miss, and the driveway isn't very visible, so keep an eye out as you approach. The menu centers around smoothie bowls, which are fresh and flavorful. They also have tater tot breakfast tacos and some clothing swag. I had the mamaka bowl and added peanut butter. It was very light and refreshing. Service was friendly and relatively quick. Would definitely come back to try more menu items.
Arrived about half hour before close and so did the rest of the Heights it seemed! Busy place when I arrived, and there was a bit of a wait with my order but I was satisfied with it so maybe it just added to the appetite. I ordered the small MAC bowl which has a blend of strawberries, pineapple, mango, and orange and was topped with fresh strawberries, pineapple, and granola. It was actually pretty filling so I'm glad I opted for the small. Price wise, it felt standard at about 11 bucks a pop. I think smoothies were 8? They have a variety of blends available and everything looked delightfully fresh so I will make my way back at some point to try something new. :) There was plenty of outdoor seating available, the inside is just dedicated for ordering and picking up. They have free water outside, as well. Menus were a bit scattered but they are also available online on their website so perhaps check ahead of time. Parking wise: I snagged a spot in the lot next to the coffee place next door but they do have signage about towing so make your decisions to park wisely hehehe They do have a veryyy small lot behind the shop, the entrance being this small alleyway which could be easily missed, but I suppose you could just park in the lot directly in front of the place and walk over. It's Houston so I'm sure you already know about the drama of parking. Overall, yummy stop for a fresh smoothie bowl, will have to come back and try one of their "not so fruity" blends :)
Decided to step out of my comfort zone a bit and try a açaí bowl with a flare! This cute place is hidden on yale street with street parking readily available. Initial vibes are very tropical oasis and the crowd was very diverse. I ordered a Larry bowl which honestly was spectacular! The small was plenty to fill me up it had mangos, limes, coconut water, cucumber, tajin, granola and chamoy inside! My bestie got a maui sunrise that tasted like a hawaiian retreat. I will be going back sooner than later to explore their coffee drinks and less fruity bowls. The staff here are super knowledgeable and patient with any dietary restrictions. Saw lots of fresh fruit being used in industrial blenders so it was rather loud but they have a nice outdoor seating arrangement perfect to sit near order bar.
Lovely experience at Mamaka, as always! I love the walk-up vibe right off the little shopping block with the walking trail, Local Foods, Postino's, Lululemon, and other boutiques. The atmosphere is fun and bustling, with loud blenders and quick service inside, plus some cute tables outside. Everyone here is very friendly! I used to visit the original location back in college in Fayetteville, and it's so exciting to see this neighborhood staple doing so well in the Heights.
My friend works at the College Station location, so I was surprised when my sister told me they actually had a location in Houston. She had been there several times before and took me one morning before we went rock climbing. It ended up being the perfect breakfast before a full day of activity because it was light, refreshing, and still filling. I honestly enjoyed it so much that I went back again later that same week. The first time I visited, I ordered the monthly special for May, which was the Peach Bowl. Even though I do not think the peach flavor was strong enough for it to really feel like a peach bowl, it still tasted amazing and was easily my favorite of the two bowls I tried. The texture was super thick and comforting, and all of the flavors worked really well together. The second time, I ordered the Mamaka Bowl. Compared to the Peach Bowl, it was noticeably more watery and less flavorful overall. While I did not enjoy it quite as much, the toppings on both bowls were still excellent. Their homemade granola was seriously delicious, and all of the fruit tasted incredibly fresh. Overall, I can definitely see why this place is so popular. The ingredients tasted fresh and high quality, the bowls were refreshing without feeling too heavy, and the atmosphere made it a great spot for a quick breakfast or snack. I'll definitely be coming back, especially if they bring back the Peach Bowl.
Parking here is very limited and can be very difficult. However, I always forget the about the crazy parking once I indulge in an açaí bowl! The mamaka is my favorite; super refreshing!
Such a good find! Tried the espresso bowl and banana latte both were such a sweet treat but really tasty. The girl at the counter was so sweet. Excited to come back on a nicer day to try something else and enjoy the outdoor patio.

This shop is so cute! It reminds me of a coastal shop with cute decor. Staff was helpful and fast. There is specific lot parking for Mamaka as well as a parking lot across for all surrounding shops. I ordered the Mac, which was perfect after my run in the heat. Loved how refreshing and tropical the flavors were. I ordered the small size and it was plenty.
It says at the bottom of their menu that it's not sweetened and all bowls and smoothies and blended fresh to order and I really appreciate this. I substituted orange juice for coconut water for my Mac smoothie and it wasn't sweet - which is good! It's not artificial tasting and you are truly getting what you ask for - it's so hard to find places that don't add a bunch of sugar to things. Service was super quick even though it was busy. It's a small place so seating is outdoors on a nice patio. We walked so we did not have to park but I did not really see parking. I also appreciate the pricing. The smoothie I got in the picture was about $7. I feel like these bowls and smoothies are so expensive these days so I was very surprised and happy with the price!
Recommend the babe and the bro. I really enjoyed every single bite of it. They make it pretty fast too, so the wait wasn't horrible. I like this place a lot and it's becoming my go to houston açaí bowl place! I also got the seasonal matcha one another time but it wasn't good. Kinda weird and bitter and tasted like seaweed
This is one of the spots I am absolutely obsessed with. While this isn't a local home grown joint, it is one of those that just has everything I'm about. Friendly folks, fresh fruit, and quick service! If you're looking for a variety of bowls, particularly if you're wanting to have some Açaí in the base, this spot needs to be in your rotation. It would be embarrassing to admit how often I grab a bowl from here, particularly when it's warm out and you're looking for that refreshing yet fulfilling meal. Food - 5* I've had almost the entire menu at this point, much of which I'll order to go, but my personal favorites are the namesake Mamaka, the Bro, the Bean, and the Pipeline. Service - 4* My orders are always ready when they say they will be and when ordering in person to relax they are quick unless they're absolutely slammed with people, which definitely tends to be the case on weekends. They do offer a rewards program via a punch card, but they've been out of them at times and promise they'll stamp your card next time. I'd recommend they switch to an electronic system possibly? Cost - 5* Great value. The bowls are nicely sized and you can make this a meal replacement. Overall - 5* I've tried multiple places for smoothies and bowls and while there are definitely other joints that are great, this is my go to. I highly recommend the Mamaka bowl!
I'm not a big acai bowl person, but going to Mamaka bowls hits every time. Their menu offers a variety of flavors for those who prefer fruity/non-fruity bowls, and any of their bowls can be made into a smoothie if you want. This specific visit I tried the Espressyo Self bowl, and it was super filling with good flavors that weren't overpowering. I also appreciate how none of the bowls I've had here had that watery/icy texture that you find in lower quality bowls/smoothies. There's no AC (it's a walk-up and order type of place), but there is plenty of outdoor seating for days where the weather is nice. The parking is also a pain since their main lot is super limited, so you'll likely have to find parking and walk a little which is the same for all of the businesses in that area. read more

Mamaka Bowls Review | One Standout Item, but the Bowls Fell Short I had mixed feelings about my experience at Mamaka Bowls. The tropical atmosphere was a nice touch, but unfortunately, the food was a bit hit or miss, and my overall experience was more disappointing than I had hoped. I ordered the Tater Tot Breakfast Roll, the Ohana Bowl, and the Babe Bowl. Out of everything I tried, the Tater Tot Breakfast Roll was easily the highlight of my visit. It was excellent, flavorful, and fresh, and it really stood out compared to the other items I ordered. I genuinely enjoyed it, and it was the one item that met my expectations. Unfortunately, I couldn't say the same about the Ohana Bowl and the Babe Bowl. Both bowls lacked flavor and were much too watery for my liking. I was disappointed because I had hoped they would have more flavor and a better consistency. Instead, they fell short in both areas, which made them less enjoyable overall. Compared to how much I liked the breakfast roll, the bowls were a letdown. The service was average. It wasn't necessarily a major issue during my visit, but it also didn't stand out as something that elevated the experience. The tropical atmosphere was a nice part of the setting, though the food itself ultimately had the biggest impact on my impression of the restaurant. Overall, Mamaka Bowls was a bit of a hit-or-miss experience for me. The Tater Tot Breakfast Roll was delicious, fresh, and full of flavor, but the Ohana Bowl and Babe Bowl were disappointing because of their lack of flavor and watery consistency. While I appreciated the tropical vibe, the inconsistency in the food left me wanting more. In the horrible heat it was relaxing and refreshing, just what was needed to cool my mouth. Mmmm yum yes, so tasty and I'm craving another but I am back in Las Vegas now. Located in the heights, this Gen Z vibed smoothie/bowl place offers plenty of flavors/fruit combo on their menu. Parking is available in near by lots (paid parking but free for first 2 hours). There is no seating inside but plenty on the side of the house and on the front porch. Everything was made to order, the Pura Vida I ordered was refreshing, perfect for a hot day. My only complaint is the lack of shade (we were BAKING under the sun) and all the circling flies we had to constantly protect our smoothie from. read more
The bowls themselves were huge and a good bang for your buck. The fruit on top was fresh and they had a lot of options to choose from. The line was crazy long but it moved fairly quickly. Waiting for your bowl was kind of long but with the line outside it was to be expected. There is no indoor seating but there are seats outdoors and it made for a cute little cozy vibe. I imagine as it starts to heat up it can be too warm to eat outside. Staff was very friendly. read more

Came here after a 5k run to enjoy a refreshing treat. First time here was not a disappointment. The açaí bowl was a great size and very tasty and my Maui sunrise smoothie hit the spot post run. Great taste, friendly service and a great outdoor ambiance, I'll definitely be coming back read more

After stuffing myself with meat the past few days in Houston (pause) I found myself craving something light and fresh! Found this place on Yelp after reading some good reviews. I ordered the Mamaka bowl and it did not disappoint. I like that they have protein as an option to add to your bowl and have many other sub/add on options. The people/workers were also super friendly and willing to walk you through the options/menu. The location is small but super cool giving like beach surfer summer vibes lol! There's swings at the front for some good pics. Only reason for four stars is I'm from California and have had a few acai bowls that were better. Overall though very solid and I'd def come back when in Houston. read more
This place is my favorite for any açaí bowl! Mamaka is a great small business that has super fresh and tasty açaí and smoothie bowls. The place is a cute little building with a swing out at the front and seating on the outside, making it feel like a comforting and beachy setting. Inside it's really small and really no seating at all as most of it is outside or you just take it to go. There's a parking lot on the other side next to forth and nomad, so you can park there and just walk over but it is rather limited. You can also park across in the plaza and walk across the street. Service is okay. Nothing special to note, but also nothing bad either. The workers always make my bowl on time, and they're good at what they do. They don't really talk to customers or give you any eye contact, and overall the vibe inside is somewhat friendly but also not amazing. But honestly, it's not really a big deal since you're mostly there to grab your bowl and go. The bowls itself are great. I wish they added more fruit on top, but the portion overall is great. The fruit is fresh and ripe, and the açaí mixture is yummy and not too sweet. It's a great sweet treat without feeling guilty, and a large bowl will fill you up. Overall, a great spot for açaí bowls and smoothies. 4.4/5! read more

I had no idea a smoothie place was here! I decided to go next door to get coffee, but I heard a blender and went to check this black out. When I walked in the staff was friendly and helped walk me through the menu. You have a choice of a bowl or smoothie. I chose a refreshing OC, and sat out front. They have swings and few tables where you can enjoy your food out front. Inside they have lots of posters of the water. It gives a beach vibe inside. Very laid back. They have parking in the rear if needed, but you can easily walk over from the trail. I plan on returning and trying the bowls, they also have tacos. The bowls look hearty and delicious no skimping on the toppings. I would definitely recommend this place when you are going for a stroll down the trail. read more

There was a line out the door when we came on a Saturday at around 10am, so this spot is very popular. They only really have outdoor seating- some under the shade and others directly under the sun. We thankfully copped a spot on the couch protecting us from the sun lollll. Inside is solely just for ordering and waiting. I got the ohana bowl, and my friends liked my bowl the most! I substituted the coconut shreds for cacao nibs, which was great. I got a small, and it was just perfect size. The strawberry banana smoothie base has a subtle and refreshing flavor that mix well with the rest of the ingredients. Was it good? Yes. Have I had better smoothie bowls? Yes. It was cool checking out Mamaka, but it's not a place that I'm dying to go back to. Parking is iffy bc the lot is small, so feel free to park across the street in the neighborhoods. read more
This was my first time here and it wasn't bad! I got the iced blueberry brown sugar latte with almond milk. I asked for half sweetened and it still tasted too sweet and the blueberry syrup they added tasted a little too artificial for me. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great. However, their açaí bowls look and tasted delicious! I think just getting their smoothies and açaí bowls are a safe bet instead of the coffee. Their smoothie bowls and specifically granola is delicious!! I keep coming back again and again. My absolute favourite is the pipeline because of the cocoa nibs (also in the bean). I think their menu has something for everyone though! It can get busy and service can be a little slow frequently (reason for 4 stars). I just adjust my expectations and don't come here expecting extremely fast service. Staff are always friendly, smiley, and helpful with any questions! read more

Mamaka Bows is the first option when I'm craving an açaí bowl, usually after a run in the park. There's so many options, but what's even better is that they happily customize for you. You can add or remove ingredients to any bowl with no problem. Weekends are pretty busy and the entire patio is usually full, but service is pretty quick. Once you place your order, you can't stray too far because they'll yell out your name once your order is ready for counter pickup. Parking is very limited but you can use one of the neighboring lots and walk over. The parking behind the business fits less than 8 cars and the entrance is the same as the exit so it's hard to get in/out. The height jogging trail is right next to the business, so you'll see most people stopping by in workout gear. It is dog friendly, so feel free to bring your pup. Prices are very reasonable considering all the ingredients used. I love the patio swings and that they have a self serve water station out front. read more

A great spot to grab a delicious acai bowl! I definitely recommend trying the "Mamaka" on the menu, it has everything classically found in an acai bowl for you to try if it is your first time trying acai (classic strawberry-banana base topped with granola, bananas, strawberries, and blueberries). The best parts of my bowl were definitely the delicious, crunchy granola, the fresh fruit, and the cold, solid acai base. At first I thought the small size was quite large at first but I finished my bowl so fast! The cashiers were friendly and our bowls came out at a reasonable time, and there is cute, outdoor seating options to enjoy your bowl and socialize. However, the reason why I give this place 4 stars rather than 5 is because the coffee I ordered was not very good, coming from a coffee enjoyer. The latte tasted watered down and I could barely taste the espresso, so I unfortunately could not bring myself to finish this drink. Additionally, parking is very limited and that makes it difficult to frequently return to. You can really only truly enjoy the acai bowls here if the weather outside was nice and warm, since there are essentially no indoor seating options at all. read more
Had my eye on this place since I love açaí bowls w my whole heart!! Really cute lively, hip vibe located near MKT. Outdoor seating available on side of building with an aesthetic wall greenery from the fourth & nomad building next door. Balcony seating available and 4 stools available inside. (limited space inside!) Parking: tricky, since parking lot in the back is very limited to only 5 parking area w/ 1 handicap parking. Pulling in can be easily missed since it is a narrow area for 1 car to fit in at a time. Just to keep that in mind! Otherwise the next parking lot seems to be reserved for fourth & nomad. Though it does seem like a type of place people walk to from other areas in the vicinity! So really great come & go for a quick pick me up! Will definitely come back again!! read more

The place is a tiny little white house looking place. There is limited seating. The workers are pretty friendly. The menu isnt that big which is cool and they list the ingredients in the bowls. I think it is well worth stopping by and trying it out. read more
I love Mamaka. It's perfect for a lazy weekend morning, and so yummy. They have a small parking lot in the back of their building. The place itself has a really nice, welcoming vibe. It's simple counter service- very casual. I got the Pipeline and added protein powder - regular size. It was so good! We also got an iced hazelnut latte. The patio was really nice - lots of seats and a couple swings. And there are seats on the side of the building too. There is a lot in the area to walk around to - and often on the weekend there are neighborhood markets in the area, so we took it to go and walked around - was a perfect Sunday morning. The snack I never knew I needed! There's nothing that hits the spot more than a refreshing açaí bowl after a walk along MKT trail. Space inside is small but it's nice to sit outside on a good weather day. There's a ton of different flavors that can be served as a bowl or smoothie. The bowls are delicious, filling, and will leave you very satisfied. This will be my new go-to pit stop when I'm in the mood for a healthy snack while I'm on the trail. read more

Chill little açaí/ smoothie spot. Love a cool acai bowl in the spring time. Located on Yale in the heights. It's outside seating only. You order at the front and then wait for your name to be called. Acai bowl was refreshing and fresh. I will be back to try different kinds. They even have an espresso one. Yum! Parking in the back. read more
