There are a few really nice things to report about Mama's Tacos! First off, there's a pretty good variety of items offered on their vast menu. I love the fact that they serve chips, salsa, and bean dip when you're seated. And, the restaurant is big enough handle large parties. I ordered one pollo mole taco, one carnitas taco, and one Al pastor taco, as well as an a la carte chile relleno. My wife had the Mamas salad with steak. UPDATE: As I previously stated in my first review, the tequila shots are $5-$6 plus more here than anywhere else in town. I was really confused about this. So we went back & ask about their "tequila shots" and why they are so much more expensive than everyone else's. Well, they lied to us & told us some story about their liquor distribution company being more expensive bla bla bla such nonsense. However, while we were having this conversation with the young lady, she told us that they aren't a small family business at all. They actually own most all the Mexican restaurants in town. As you can see, all the new ones have the same paint job. They own all of these funky colored ones. They all look identical. So, if you have multiple restaurants & your purchasing liquor for ALL OF THEM YOUR VOLUME SHOULD GIVE YOUR RESTAURANT THE BEST PRICES. Their tequilia shots should be the cheapest not the most expensive. They are intentionally gouging people. Hence, their multiple restaurants. Also, and this is the biggest no no of all for me. While we were there talking to the lady about the tequila shots being so expensive, we watched in horror the pretty lady bar tender yuck it up with all the men at the bar, as they bought HER shots & she drank them REPEATEDLY WITH THE CUSTOMERS. Walked in around 7 pm and our party of 3 were promptly seated. There were approximately 4-5 other parties there. The chips and salsa were delicious and plentiful. Our order of shrimp tacos were pitiful. The shrimp were the size of my index nail, no kidding. Definitely pre-packaged junk laying on a bed of cabbage. The vegetarian quesadilla came out sopping wet on its wax paper sheet in a plastic basket. We literally had to take it out of the basket it was drowning it. The taste was passable. Our burrito supreme was ok. We asked for beans instead of rice but alas received mediocre rice. You'll see below why we didn't complain about our dreadful meals. The beer was cold, the diet soda was fine. On the actual menu has a note printed on it that basically reads: No refunds on anything. Read the menu, if you don't like the taste, too bad. Never again. I wanted to share an honest experience because food safety is important to me. During my visit, I observed a staff member repeatedly touching his face/nose with bare hands and then continuing to handle food without washing hands or changing gloves. That alone made me uncomfortable. Out of concern, I looked into their inspection history through Florida DBPR, and there have been multiple recent violations, including unsafe food temperatures, contamination concerns from ceiling leaks, and even stop-sale orders for food not being in a safe condition. I understand that restaurants can have off days, but seeing both the in-person experience and the inspection history line up made it difficult for me to feel confident eating here. I truly hope this is taken seriously and corrected, because proper hygiene and food safety should always come first. read more

MUST READ. I will NEVER be back. I've ordered the birria soup (cup) Togo from here multiple times and it's always come with a large portion, rice, taco shells, and sides like cilantro and onion. This time, the portions were much smaller and none of the usual sides were included. I called just to ask for clarification since I've ordered the exact same thing before. Then I was transferred to the manager who repeatedly talked over saying what im asking for costs extra , I was not given a chance to explain. To the point of me having to yell over him "this is extremely unprofessional" before being hung up on. I went in person to resolve it, he walked up to me pointing at a menu about to repeat exactly what he said over the phone. I said no, you're going to let me talk this time. I explained that I had order history showing consistency in what I previously received, and that I understand if previously I was given more than I paid for but the customer service I received was unacceptable. He tried to cut me off again and I asked for a refund stating I'd never be back.. Which was given by pulling a $20 bill out of his pocket and throwing it at me. On my way out I took a picture of him running into the back, as his little boy, all but 10yo yelled "Karen" at me. I have worked in fine dining and even I, a 20yo girl would know better than to behave that way as A MANAGER. This is how we resolve mistakes?? Went on a Tuesday so it was jamming. Inside was fun, looked like it was an old service center made to a cool hip restaurant. Ordered my usual lengua taco and tamales. The salsa and black bean dip were a surprise and very good. The food took a minute but the wait was worth it. Everything came out to perfect temperature and full of flavor! The tamale was a little less than perfect but the flavors were all there. The only thing not pictured was the flan....oh....my....goodness. That flan was amazing. I should have known it was going to be a downhill slide when it took forever to get waited on when we were seated. I want to say the hostess was very friendly and the restaurant looked clean. We frequently go out for margaritas and tacos and were excited to find a new place. WERE. The two tables that sat after us were serviced before us. We did get the chips and salsa and beans immediately. The salsa was good. Chips tasted like they were a day old from an open bag. The beans were beans. Our waitress, Michelle, was chatty up front with a friend. When she finally came over we did order the top self margarita. It took sometime getting to us, but it was good. We weren't very hungry, but we ordered a taco each. Kind of like a trial, to see if we would be coming back. The husband ordered the linga taco. He said it had good flavor, but was sparse on meat, I thought I was getting the traditional Mexican beef taco. I say it like that because of how our waitress described it. "Traditional beef tacos comes with potatoes and some carrots." I said I'd try that! Well.. what came out was a skimpy beef taco. None of the other stuff she mentioned. I read some of the other reviews and everyone seems to really like the deal on $2 taco Tuesdays. But it was Sunday, and they were $4.50. Mamas and Papa's Tacos in Pensacola, FL is Amazing! Food 5/5. Ambiance 5/5. Service 2/5. I went to Papa's Tacos a few times and dined in. I absolutely ADORE their bean dip. It has a Smokey flavor and is ADDICTING! I usually take some home as well. I absolutely recommend the Bisteca A La Mexicana tacos with corn tortillas. It's got a juicy tender beef meat with the bean dip. It's finger-lickin good The ambiance is fun! They have A TON of seating. It's great for couples, big families, and parties. They usually have live music playing inside. On Friday nights, they have themed party nights and have a DJ playing music on their patio area. It usually picks up with more people around midnight. The service here is not the best, quite frankly it was disappointing. Luckily, I love the food enough to keep coming back. The previous time I went, the waiter literally finished her shift while without telling us. It was like 9:00pm on a Friday, so the restaurant side did not close yet. If she needed to go home early for some reason that is understandable as we are all human. But she took our order and I didn't see her again. No one told us anything. Whenever we needed help, we would wait and wait and wait. Eventually, I had to stand up and look for a waiter to ask for my waitress and then minutes later someone else would show up to my table. That repeatedly happened. Then when I asked for a check, someone else came back and told me that my waitress had left.... They finally told me at the end of my meal after I inconveniently had to stand up and look over and over again. If someone told me in advance and said that we had a new waiter/waitress, it is 100% okay! But that didn't happen. The guy who rang us out at the end was nice though and gave me an extra container of bean dip Togo and some extra tortillas. So I appreciated him. But I think an extra step of telling us that she would leave and to ask for help to anyone would have made the night much easier. read more

I was shocked when I came to this spot. I honestly thought it was an outdoor hole in the wall taco place, but it's definitely not. It has a Pedro's feel to it, but their own twist. The grilled chicken used in the fajitas and quesadillas though were just thin overcooked dry strips of meat, and the refried beans were just a runny soupy mess. I'm back with a delicious update from Mama and Papas Tacos! I went yesterday with a friend of mine. This time I ordered from the lunch menu and so many choices! I finally settled on the Chimichanga with shredded beef with both sides beans as I'm not the biggest fan of rice! It was a huge plate of deliciousness - that is for sure. The chimichanga was crispy and loaded with shredded beef. It also came with lots of melted cheese, sour cream and guacamole. I was so full after eating barely half of it and I loved having leftover yumminess to take home. Maybe I ate too many homemade tortilla chips with two different kinds of salsa! My friend ordered an enchilada lunch portion as well. How he managed to finished that entire plate, I'll never know. But he did tell me later he skipped dinner because he was still so full. I also have to give a huge thank you to their staff. They are so nice and making sure you have everything that you need. Well, after a 3 month break due to servers who spend more time socializing than serving.... They didn't let us down. Maybe the clothingnis too tight or they just don't care. An entire staff of young folks who just are not interested if their patrons don't have drinks, or if the order came out complete...I Will not be back...even though the food us good. We were seated right away. Got chips with salsa and beans. I ordered a michelada, pretty basic but good. Then we ordered 2 tacos de lengua (cow tounge) because my boyfriend never had that before and he was shooketh! the meat is perfection! We wanted to order more but we had also ordered the camarones a la diabla plate that came with rice and vegetables. The steamed vegetables on that plate were so good. He got an enchiladas plate that came with rice and beans. We got fully pretty fast and had to take the rest home but overall, everything was delicious. Everything was perfect. Just wanted a taco.. a really GOOD taco! We hunted for a taco restaurant in Milton/Pensacola/Pace. We decided to try Mama's and Papa's Tacos. Friday night at 5pm, just wanted take-out. Walked into a quaint, clean, lovely sit-down restaurant that is perfect for family and friends. A happy place with everyone smiling - both staff and customers! Our order was taken quickly. The smell from the kitchen was heavenly! The order appeared in record time. The prices are very reasonable! The dogs were in the vehicle with us, and are usually very good, but the smell was so good even they were begging to get some! We took it home and opened up a feast that was not only beautiful (even in to-go containers) but incredibly delicious! Oh those tacos! Beans! Fresh cooked delectable beans! Perfect rice! All the trimmings included! They missed NOTHING! We ate till we could not move! We will be regular customers. 50 stars, yes 50, for Mama's and Papa's Tacos! read more

The food isn't great. It's very much a gringo establishment. Food was lukewarm, my corn tortillas just crumbled when I picked them up, the asada on the taco was cool. Felt like the food was just sitting in a warmer, but the warmer doesn't working that day. I ordered a michelda with modelo negro and it was very watery. It was like miller lite. The birria tacos looked good until you took a bite. Flavor was off putting. The chile relleno was awful. Not cooked properly. The chile was not cooked enough. No flavor. Staff was nice.
