I had been eyeing Taco Agave for a while since I have been making visits to Pensacola a few times a year. Today, it was located very conveniently as I attended Pensacon. I had viewed the menu a few times and thought that it was one place I had to try. Sadly, it ended in disappointment. Taco Agave? More like Taco Atrocious for me. For Pensacon, I think they had a limited menu. You had the starters to pick from and 7 different tacos to choose. I picked the Veggie and added ground beef, jerk chicken, and Southern BBQ pork. I started with the Veggie that came with ingredients such as some kind of black bean salad and sriracha ranch. I feel like I actually messed this one up by adding ground beef. The ground beef didn't go well with other ingredients and was bland. The next one was the jerk chicken. Pineapples and fried onions made this taco edible. The chicken did not have one bit of jerk flavor to it. There was some kind of yellow possibly jerky flavored mustard on it. But the chicken was so bland, it didn't help. The Southern pulled pork had Chipotle aioli, BBQ sauce, cheddar cheese, pickles, and collards on it. I don't like collards so I took that off immediately. I didn't taste much BBQ sauce on the taco. The pulled pork was better than the ground beef and jerk chicken. But overall, it was underwhelming. The place is also very small. They do put tables outside that helps. Also, they seem to be understaffed with one guy at the bar trying to manage everyone until finally a waitress came in to help. I had high hopes for Taco Agave. The presentation was good. But the execution on the other hand was not satisfying. read more

So, I have been meaning to check out Taco Agave since moving to Pensacola. It is in a really cute historical district in downtown Pensacola. With the hospitality industry post COVID it is always service that I am concerned with but Taco Agave "Cody" had rave reviews. I hoped we would be served by someone like Cody. When I got there, the bartender came out to greet us, and I asked him what his name was and he said Cody. I asked him if he had checked out the reviews on yelp and he said no I'm afraid to look I told him not to be and as an FYI, he did not disappoint His service was impeccable not too attentive, but there when we needed him, very friendly and kind and he made sure we had a fantastic time. I don't really need to talk about the tequilas because they have so many. It would be hard for you not to find the one you liked we drank 10 Teo and club soda. We took advantage of the happy hour shots of Milagro and ordered some food. My friends were in from Baltimore and said that the nachos were the best they have ever had. We did add shredded chicken as a protein, and with the queso guac pico and just the way they were Layered they were pretty incredible. We all had tacos, Baja shrimp, classic beef, Carnitas, and bánh mì. They were all excellent and we will without question to be back. Cody, if you're reading this pay attention to your reviews, you've made a lot of peoples evenings special and you should be proud of that. Taco Agave, give him a raise! We stopped in on a Friday night around 8pm or so. The bar was not that busy, so we were able to sit at the bar without having anyone standing over us. I ordered a salad and my husband ordered tacos and rice and beans as the sides. The first thing about the restaurant--that AWFUL air freshener. I wish I knew what the brand was and the name of the particular scent. It is probably the worst artificial air freshener scent known to man and I seem to smell it in a lot of businesses. In a restaurant, the main smell in the air should not be that awful air freshener. I could taste it. The salad was fine. My husband said the tacos were good. Overall, it filled us up but it was not anything amazing. I would probably give it another chance but next time, I would eat outside or take my food to go. read more

Tacos were very good! Well except for the regular taco, it tasted like beans, not beef. Otherwise all were very good. We ordered a variety and were not disappointed. One thing you should be aware of- This place is A BAR! So, you order at the bar after checking out the menu! There was some table service but it appears that is done by one of the two bar tenders working at any given time. However, it didn't appear to be an issue. We had no complaints. It was just a little different, I would advise that you think of and try to ask for everything you think you'll need up front. This place gets pretty busy! There is not a great deal of seating, so if you're in a party of at least 2 people, it may be a good idea that one of you grab seats and the other order if possible. That way you're sure to have seats. We were in a party of 6, and were lucky enough to grab 2 tables to join for our meal. Full bar and good selection of food. I'd recommend this spot. I'll be back. Update: I returned to this location and the tacos are still full of meat and toppings, which is a plus. I was literally full after 1.5. But sadly, the tacos weren't as good as pre-Covid. Perhaps that will go back to normal soon. I was however very disappointed to find out that the updated menu on line contained a "Taco Trio" Special, (Buy any 3 tacos and get $3.00 Off) That the restaurant is NOT honoring. The lady literally said to me: "I keep hearing about this Trio special thing from people, but I have no idea what it is". So I showed her on my phone. She then said "Well I don't know anything about it." I said, so I take it that means, no special? She stated "Yes." Didn't ask a manager, a cook, another worker, nothing! I spend a lot on eating out. So the $3.00 wasn't a big savings for me. BUT, if you advertise a Special, you should honor it. Your customers deserve that. So, I was left with a bad taste in my mouth (So to speak) with the lack of honesty here, and frankly I now have a lack of respect for this business. Which really does sadden me. The bar was empty besides two people who were sat, already with drinks and were served. My husband and I sat down and the bartender greeted us, I told him I'd like the "xyz" and had a question about if I could substitute vodka for the tequila. Another guest walked in and he honestly stopped mid conversation with me, greeted her, a d took her order. I was kind of stunned so we just walked away and went somewhere else. This place is located downtown which is great and I get they are trying to be "cool" but I think they are trying to do too much with their tacos. It's not for me... Their shrimp tacos have just a few mini shrimps in it, plus there so much other crap in the taco you can't taste the shrimp. Whatever happened to just a good delicious taco?? Jordan was great and even came to the table with water. Strawberry jalapeño cocktails were spicy but not too much so. They will be a great summer favorite! Cenoté tequila Margaritas were tangy and worth the price. Tuna pink taco was fresh and light with a tuna tartare and light sauce. The steak was probably my least favorite and the main reason for the 4 star that should be 4.5. as it tasted and texturally resembled a pot roast. Shrimp was great by my taste, flavorful, and fresh however my company was not overwhelmed by its profile. My friend preferes the grouper taco as it was light and flakey and flavorful. Just not a personal favorite of mine, i prefer big bites of grouper. Over all we were satisfied with this cantina style atmosphere. We will be back. read more

My one star review is simple: Why does it take 30 minutes to make scrambled eggs? It shouldn't. So they only get one star.

If you're older than 30, forget it. We're seniors, and stopped for a bite and a drink before a show at the Saenger. We were IGNORED by the teenybopper at the bar. We had to ask for a table (there were many open), then we had to ask for menus (we got one). I saw ridiculous prices, but we were nevertheless ready to order - for quite a while. After an unreasonable delay while the girl was chatting with friends, I walked to the bar and asked to place our order. She continued chatting... A couple at a neighboring table received their food - a tray of nachos, then a tray of three "street tacos" (about $25 on the menu). I got a taste, and as a San Diegan can claim that they tasted nothing like Mexican food. Even worse, salsa was in bottles. The girl never showed up to take our order. We left, walked to another spot, and had a pleasant dinner. OPINION: overpriced bad food with even worse service. read more

The food here is really good my family and I really enjoyed all of the taco selection. That being said it is very disheartening when you receive your bill and they have a very odd way of telling you what you owe. The Bill has a total amount due at the bottle and it is almost $20 more than the actual amount due which is hidden in the middle of the receipt so if you were not paying attention or have had one too many margaritas they are making a lot of extra money. Not the greatest selection of beers, but the menu will do. I had two of the tacos and I got the trio of guac, queso and salsa. The trio was awesome and I would recommend you get that if you come here. There was an extensive list of tequilas and margaritas, but I only stopped for a quick eat. I will definitely be back to try the other tacos and for some more queso. They do have a happy hour after seven, and there some deals. We came to this awesome taco bar on a Friday night that was also gallery night! And yassss! The music was a hit! Stopped in Pensacola on a business trip and was really craving tacos for no particular reason. So when I saw there was a new taco spot with damn good reviews I thought I'd give it a shot. Taco Agave is the real deal. We ordered chips and Guac for two and for once in my life, we actually got enough Guac for two people to smother their chips in! Get the Guac, it's probably a good portion for 3 people at most. Then ordered 3 different tacos as I usually do: The Vietnamese, The Piggy Piggy, and The World Famous Pink Taco. The Vietnamese: This one was easily the most surprising and I mean that in a good way. Vietnamese Marinated Pork with Honey Sriracha soy sauce was so good! The Piggy Piggy: Chorizo, Chorizo, Chorizo! That's all you need to know! And then there's the World Famous Pink Taco.... now I don't know how it's world famous but it damn well deserves the title! Marinate Tuna is the best thing on earth. The only reason I'm giving Taco Agave a 4/5 is because they messed up our order twice, but the staff was very friendly and accommodating!
