I was on the phone with my best foodie friend and went by this place around lunch time. I said "I have to check this place out right?" He said most definitely - get oxtail if they have it. They had it alright. Ambiance was good. They also had Matouks Calypso sauce which is one of my absolute favorites. If I had ordered a less flavorful dish, I would have used some. Please note that Mama P's is open on Sunday, even though Yelp says it's closed. The prices listed in the pictures is also outdated as their prices have gone up. We were pleasantly surprised when we passed Mama P's and the sign in the window said open. I am always looking for good food spots when we visit Dublin. Best Caribbean food I've had. I've been three times in a row and got the oxtail, cabbage & rice and peas. All very flavorful and good. The way they package the food is magnificent. It won't spill in your car at all. As well as the island punch and blueberry lemonade. Both drinks are very good and tasty ! ( great for a chaser!) The service is great you'll feel like family. I'm a city girl and I've had plenty of Jamaican cuisine. So far, I only frequent one restaurant. I had to try Mama Peas as soon as I saw it here in Dublin! "Jamaican cuisine in the boondocks???" I ordered a medium oxtail, cabbage, and rice and peas. Maybe I've been spoiled but, I thought they were a little stingy with the oxtails . However, I really enjoyed the flavor. Especially since that's something I look for. I'll be returning to try out the rest of the menu. Some of my peers enjoy they're curry and jerk chicken. I am a fan of Carribbean food. The food here is really good and even if you have leftovers, it is good the next day. I've tried the oxtails and brown stew chicken. They both are good but I am in love with the plantains. They are soft and moist- not hard like some restaurants serve. The rice is spicy. The veggies are crunchy and cooked really well. I love the cabbage and carrot mix only. Some places put the canned mixed vegetables inside their veggie mix. Like the way it's done here without all that. And the owners are super nice people. It's a small restaurant that has been decorated with charm and imagination. We were greeted at the door. Just tell them what you would like to eat or ask for a menu and take a seat. I wouldn't know whether or not their food is good because I never got to try anything. The owner acted like I was bothering her by walking in. she was sitting at the table and barely budged nor did she acknowledge me when I walked in. I had to speak to her to make her say something to me. Then, she called some guy from the back to take care of me who also acted like he didn't want to be bothered with serving a customer. I asked for something simple and was told they were out and that's fine. However, their demeanor made me leave without bothering to try anything else. It wasn't worth it. I'm reading all these reviews about friendly and attentive service, and people getting samples and that's what made me stop in but all I got was attitude so I left. Will never return.
