When I say I think about Mama Ning's pretty much every day, I'm not joking. The servers are always SO nice and by now they remember I like the som tum as my app, and this makes me feel so welcome and happy. The larb salad is incredible (I get it with chicken), as well as the ginger salad, clear soup, tom yum, chicken satay skewers, beef noodle soup, basically everything. My dad swears by the pad see ew and my grandparents love the massaman and penang curries. I hadn't had much (if any) Thai food before trying Mama Ning's, but now I am hooked and honestly it's become probably my favorite overall cuisine in general! Whenever I visit I know I can trust it will be fresh and I can get something healthy but also incredibly tasty. Plus they use gluten-free soy sauce so it makes my life a lot easier aha. Love their food!! But they always run with a short staff so service is spotty. Go when the first open, or for a late lunch. And I mean it is no insult because I know it is a family-run business. Mama Nings was crowded on a Sunday afternoon but well worth the wait. Thai tea started us off with an energizing sugar rush. Then our party of four enjoyed Chicken Satay, Summer rolls, beef noodle soup, basil stir fry with beef, Tom kha soup and beef salad. All items were tasty, and medium was a spicy level of heat for me. Mama Ning's was delicious! As an impromptu stop along a recent road trip, I decided to give this Watkinsville Thai place a try since it was a cold, chilly day. I figured some warm curry would be fitting, and their green curry with tofu did NOT disappoint! It was hot and tasty, billowing with lemongrass and spice--- Thai food knows how to do flavor right! I also ordered jasmine tea, which was delicious, and a side of fried rice. The rice was piping hot and perfectly savory. Not to mention, the service was impeccable. Stopped by on our way to Athens and it was a good restaurant if you're in the area. It's not like home cooking but it's good for the location! The basil fried rice was plain and the Tom yum soup had seasonings that had to be chewed so it was somewhat unappealing but the flavor was good. Ate here on a Thursday night for dinner. My wife heard about this place and was told it is very good. Nice to have a new place in the Athens area to get Thai food. Small restaurant set up in a strip shopping center. Limited indoor seating with outside seating available. Could get hot eating outdoors in the summer months. We started with the fried veggie rolls. They arrived quickly and hot. They were very good with a nice sweet dipping sauce. My wife got the eggplant basil with chicken medium heat. She can take some heat but felt her dish was a little hotter than she likes. I got the drunken noodles with chicken spiced hot. It was hot but had a lot of flavor and good heat. They did have some delicious looking homemade cakes for dessert. Very good place to eat and a nice addition to Watkinsville dining. read more

Today's visit was a surprise compared to the previous visits- probably a more rushed kitchen. Still good food. Food: 3/5 Soup / entree broths are very good , but today some vegetables were practically raw, some over cooked. (And, it's hard to put your fingers in hot soup to pinch the tails off the shrimp-maybe better to chop those off in the kitchen ?) Tom kha not as much coconut flavor as in the past. Noodles are done very well -al dente as the Italians say. They have 5 tiers of spice/heat, to choose from. There are children's meals. Service: :5/5. Personnel are very pleasant and helpful. Location:5/5 Convenient for Watkinsvillle, more like 3/5 if driving from Athens. Easy to locate at the end of a small, busy strip mall on Main Street-parking is usually ok, but drive around the mall if you don't find a spot right away because there are other restaurants in the same location. At busiest hours, take-out might be the best bet. read more

A nice find away from downtown Athens It had been ages since we had any Thai food and decided to give the place a try. If you are looking for ambiance this is NOT the place.Noisy and a bit cramped. There seems to be ample outdoor seating though. They were slammed and apparently under staffed but th service was still attentive but understandably so. Mama Ning's makes great stir frys and pineapple fried rice. The noodle dishes, especially Pad Kee Mao, are also great. The only downside is that it's fairly small, so it can easily get crowded. They do have some outdoor seating. The decor is slightly random, but they have nice big windows. read more

I ordered online carryout for lunch. I got tom kha soup, fresh rolls, and Veg to the Max lunch special. The Tom Kha soup was just coconut-based broth with sliced mushrooms and did not look like the photos online. It tasted OK but nothing special. The fresh rolls were very fresh with a dipping sauce and were obviously freshly made. I enjoyed them. The Veg to the Max lunch special was very plain although the vegetables were fresh and abundant. I ordered it mild with tofu but it had almost no flavor at all and no sauce. I was disappointed that it did not have more flavor even though it was prepared mild as I requested. If I try the restaurant again, I will order something different in the hopes that it is not so bland. Not what I expected from Thai food based on other restaurants. The service was polite and the restaurant was busy when I picked up my food so there are clearly many people who enjoy it. read more

Went to Mama Ning's for lunch today, after recommendation from friends and good ratings for the restaurant. Worst experience that I have ever had in dining! I have eaten in thousands of restaurants in my life, but have never walked out due to service. After being seated for 10 minutes they took our drink order. When my wine order arrived the glass had lip prints on glass from previous customer. Another 10-15 passed and they took our order and replaced the glass of wine. After another 10 minutes and they served the salad tray. Our order was straight from the lunch menu.. another 10-15 minutes passed they said your soup should be here in 5 minutes... 20 minutes passed, no soup.... After waiting 1 hour 10 minutes we decided to leave. They keep telling us it would only be a few minutes. Note: there were only 4 other tables in restaurant while we were there. read more

Absolutely the worst Thai food I've ever had. When I opened the containers I was shocked at how small the portions were considering it was just about $40 of food, but after the first bite, the portion size didn't matter, because I truly didn't eat any of it. It just sucked. The beef in my dish was horribly over cooked and chewy and the Pad Thai was equally bad. Absolutely no flavor in either dish. They also charged me an extra dollar to switch to brown rice, which I thought was kind of lame as well. No reason to ever go back to this place. read more

Woohoooo! We love a good Thai place, well at least I do! My boyfriend and I came here on a classmate's recommendation and boy am I pleased! This small spot is perfect for some amazing food, that is flavored to perfection. I will first say, the customer service is great. A server took our drink order while she was busy, but another sever noticed she was busy and decided to go ahead and bring us our drinks. I really appreciate service like that. Now let's get into the food, first let's just say the food is amazing and came out quick. We started off with chicken skewers which were tender and seasoned, they even came with a sweet and sour sauce that was really good!
