I absolutely LOVE Athens Wok. It's a super cute spot that's walkable and has amazing food. I've tried countless dishes from here and was never disappointed. The portion sizes were also great for the price. My favorite dish here would have to be the Pad Thai. I usually get it without any meat or vegetables and extra egg whenever I go back. The store refused to accept a cancellation since it's basically "my fault" for ordering at such a time. Their third party Comic Delivery offers horrible service as well. Wow tried another dish and came up with another winner, this time the Singapore Noodles. Lots of veggies and a sweet and savory sauce featuring curry powder. Just Yum! Every time we come in we get a new favorite! But also got some not so good news. The building this little gem is housed in is set to be torn down in April 2025. The staff here are the nicest people. I don't know how anyone could recommend this place as 4 stars! I understand that week Thursday-Saturday the area was extremely busy with GMEA choir and a Gymnastics event. So my complaint is nothing to do with the wait time as this very small place was just like most other places super busy! The day we went, Saturday afternoon on the 15th of Feb. it wasn't super busy but most of the seats were full but nobody waiting for orders or for a place to sit either. I ordered sesame chicken and egg drop soup. My daughter order some chicken and noodle thing and an egg roll my wife ordered something low carb but it's was so nasty she didn't even touch it after smelling the beef. We also order something like yaki mandu it was good. My chicken was fried way too fast and hot, the chicken was wiry and way over cooked! My daughter said hers was tasteless. My egg drop soup looked like they took hot water and let egg slow run in. Usually egg drop soup I get in most areas usually has a yellowish color to the broth/soup not clear liquid. We ended up getting heart burn and gas. So no won't recommend this place! Was so disappointed. I love to support mom and pop shops but not this one ever again! read more

Great spicy food (but they work with you so honestly if spice isn't your thing) as well as a calm atmosphere that makes you feel like you are over for a family friend's dinner party. This place I feel like is one of those Athens staples if you're a student here. If you're downtown or on the Northern end of Athens and you're feenin for some Chinese/Thai food, this is your spot. When you walk in here, you will not find fancy shmancy decor. You will find a nice quaint place with the brightest smiles and awesome service. I came in for lunch yesterday with my friend and we were greeted immediately and sat down. We were asked what we wanted to drink, placed our orders, and probably within 10 minutes our food was steaming on our table. They have a lunch special for $6.95 where you can pick a dish which will come with rice and your choice of egg drop soup or an egg roll. My friend and I opted for that and just had a cool time catching up. I've seen a review for this place that stated that they were disappointed that they could not find "Chinese-AMERICAN" food, that it was too traditional for you and not what they were looking for. Well, friend, if you're looking for that, then there's multiple Panda Expresses in Athens made just for you. You're entitled to your opinion, but leaving a bad review for a restaurant staffed by amazing hardworking people because the food was traditional is kind of interesting to me. The food here is Michelin star and it's not something that I ate every week during undergrad, but the workers there have always been kind. It has always been a peaceful and fulfilling experience, and they make the best of what they have. Don't let the lack of an upscale interior deter you from this amazing hole in the wall joint. The first time I walked by it was completely empty during lunch so I decided to skip it, but I am so glad I ended up trying it. It has now become a lunch regular for me when we I'm in dt. They have daily lunch specials that start at $7 and the quantity is fairly good. The reviewers stating that the quantity is not worth the price really need to go to a bigger city and understand what high price means!! The quality of the food is always hands down amazing. The last couple of times I've had the sweet n sour shrimp, which I honestly haven't had better for a while now. The lunch special comes with soup or spring roll, both of which are decent. Athens Wok is a delicious, affordable place to eat at downtown! Parking can be difficult, but it's worth it for the great food! The masaman curry chicken has excellent flavor, but the General Tao's chicken was sweeter and less spicy than expected. The spring rolls that come with the plates were perfectly crispy, and complimented by the sweet sauce. The dumplings were also very good! The service was very fast, although there was few people when we went. The store is very clean and nicely decorated, and the staff was very nice and friendly! read more

I was very pleasantly surprised by Athens Wok! I was skeptical because of the great prices/deals, but the food was great and they had nice portions. They are also very vegetarian and vegan friendly and are happy to make accommodations. An employee told me that the only items that have fish sauce is the pad thai and the curries, but everything else is safe. And of course, it is easy to order items without eggs. I ordered a vegetable lo mein, pad see ew w/tofu, vegetable Chinese fried rice, and kung pao tofu.The kung pao tofu was not on the menu, but I was able to order it. The pad see eq and kung pao tofu were my favorites. I ordered carry-out during the pandemic, and can see that the restaurant is being very safe. Dine-in is closed and they have plastic panels by the cash register. I highly recommend ordering take-out from here. I look forward to ordering from here again! read more

I took a chance since the reviews of the other foods were all highly recommended! I ordered the chicken lo mein and a spring roll (not pictured) from Athens Wok yesterday! It was pretty good. The sauce was nice and thick, coating all of the veggies and noodles! The noodles were a little doughy, but still tasty! It wasn't the best lo mein I've ever had, but good enough that I would eat it again. I would have preferred more vegetables, but you can't have it all! read more

The lunch specials were fairly priced compared to other restaurants around the area, $7 for a main dish like pad thai with a side of soup. I went with the pad thai and egg drop soup. The old lady running the place was really sweet and nice, food came fairly quickly as the place was empty when I got there. The egg drop soup was fine, I don't know why people had a problem with it. Super bummed out with my order. I had been craving 'Chinese' food all day, specifically my go to, sweet & sour chicken. You know those glorified chicken nuggets you dip into the sauce? I was disappointed in the amount of food I got for $9. I was not full at all after eating it. My boyfriend ordered the beef lo mein. He said it was average and felt that they skimped on the beef. Me and my wife eat here once or twice a week via Cosmic or Bulldawg. We used to go and pick it up before that. They opened about the same time we moved to town, so we have been eating there for almost 5 years. I hear a lot of people complain about service in the restaurant and I would say that service is better during lunch, but they do a ton of take out so things can be slow in the evening. This is small family business that serves fresh made Chinese, Thai and Japanese Hibachi all with no MSG. The family had owned a Japanese Hibachi for 10 years...I think in the Pacific Northwest. So the hibachi is very good! Some folks also mentioned some dishes being to salty and I haven't experienced that in the almost 5 years so I'm not sure what they're talking about. Some favs are the Egg Drop Soup, Basil Roll Shrimp (which are made fresh to order and not refrigerated like other places in town), Green Curry Tofu (this is also great with Salmon, but you probably need to call to order that), Crab Rangoon, all the Hibachi dishes, Pork fried rice, Mongolian Chicken and Pad Kee Mao. I really love their Kung Pao Chicken, but I don't order that to go as the sauce is too thick...better to get that when dining in. They have upgraded their togo containers too so everything is sealed up better for delivery, but this also depends on the handling of your delivery driver. My wife and I are no stranger to Chinese food, so there's a certain repertoire of what we deem good/come again food. This place definitely did not deliver on either. We ordered pork Lo Mein, sesame chicken, and chicken fried rice. Call me food critic because I love food and love flavor, love texture, and love when things are done right. For starters, the Lo Mein was a flat noodle like fettuccini. I would still say egg noodle, but overcooked. The sauce for the Lo Mein was watery, but still desirable. Not overly salted (ehem, like panda)... Next was the fried rice. It has the bare minimum - soy sauce, fried egg, chicken (kind of dry), and maybe some seasoning although it didn't taste like much. It would have been nice to see more variety of vegetables, but there were only huge slices of carrot and onion and a LOT of oil coating the rice and everything else. Now... the sesame chicken... ... Sesame chicken should not feel like you're chewing a piece of car tire.. The inside was almost translucent, the crust was almost like a Cheeto, and yet the outside was slippery like an eel. The aroma was as if you bought boneless Buffalo wings and microwaved them a couple times for lunch, then realized you were out of chicken for your own restaurant, washed as much of the flavor off of it, breaded it, fried it, and smothered it with sauce. I'm sorry, but the only way I want my food smothered is from Waffle House's hash browns. Moral of the story, I love food and I wouldn't go again. read more

But some of the flavors are bland in different entrees and the spice level 4 is almost miserable, and to think they have all the way to 10.
