Not at all places can satisfy me with their taste of rice, but their rice was super good The guacamole and the sour cream were also fresh which I feel like goes a long way because a lot of restaurants usually don't keep their condiments fresh ! all of my salsa containers were filled up which most of the time they're only halfway filled or not even halfway at most restaurants. I was at that company for 19 years and I feel confident saying that I visited Mama Margie's at least twice a month for every year I worked at my previous company. I love so many things on their menu, but now that I have gone pescatarian diet, I can't eat as much stuff there. But my go to is their chips and queso, I swear Mama Margie's has some of the best queso that I have ever had. There are lots of Mexican restaurants in San Antonio, but I don't feel like anybody beats their queso for the price and the quantity that they give you. It is so much more than the other place.I have tried almost everything on the menus and have always had a great experience. The nachos are piled high with beans and cheese . We all enjoyed the tacos so much we decided that we had to stop here one more time for breakfast before we left. The chorizo and egg taco and chorizo and potato taco were delicious! We noticed that the amount of protein to tortilla ratio was generous and perfect! Most places we go to are a little stingy when it comes to adding enough protein so we always end up with more tortilla with some bites. Overall we enjoyed the cleanliness of the bathrooms and dining area. The toppings area was always clean and filled which we really appreciated when we wanted to add more pico to our tacos. Mama Margie's has been like a family member to me since moving to San Antonio back in '05. It got me through college, 100%. I was fueled by bean & cheese tacos & the free chips & salsa bar. If you are on a super tight budget, this is the place to come. And it's open 24 hours!? It's always lively & hoppin. You might catch karaoke night, or a big game, it's almost always busy. But regardless of how packed it is, your food will come out FAST. It's always delicious, and always consistent. They have two lanes in the drive thru which I use frequently. I can order a couple of tacos and be in and out with my order before the song on the stereo has ended. Their queso is so good, and the margaritas are great. Making it a great spot to hang out with friends and family. Their guacamole is superb. Ask for the 8oz. Quesadillas are a hit. The tacos are a smash. Love the breakfast tacos, too! Mama Margie's is a staple in our household. We usually get fajitas or the massive beef nachos. It's consistently delicious, affordable, fast, and provides large portions so you never leave hungry. Their self serve chips and salsa station is so fun as well and makes sure you can get exactly what you want and not what you don't. Their warm salsa and the salsa verde is my favorite. Even going through the drive thru is very fast and consistent. The people are welcoming and kind as well as expeditious with any request. This was our first time at Mama Margie's, a place my neighbors recommended. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I ordered the chicken fajitas and my wife ordered the chicken quesadillas. The restaurant was clean with lots of seating. Our food was fantastic. Our portions were very generous and I could not finish everything on my plate and we took home half of my wife's plate. I don't know why I don't go to Mama Margie's more often, from soups to tacos and the amazing warm chips with a variety of dipping salsas, they are the best. Average TexMex, but nothing more. I've had Mama Margie's takeout once or twice before and thought it was alright at best, but at the request of a friend who really loves this restaurant I decided to go have a meal there in person. It's a decent sized establishment with its interior walls painted the craziest neon colors I've seen at a restaurant. You can either order at a cashier run register or at a kiosk at the front. Just make sure to pick up your drinks from the front register if you order at the kiosk, because they don't place them on your tray with the rest of your order. A few of the tables were a little messier and the floor could have been swept, but it was still on the cleaner side. I ordered the Cheese Enchilada Plate (with no tomatoes) and two Corn Tortillas. After a single bite of the Tortillas, I did not bother to finish them. They were bland discs of cornmeal bordering on a strange soggy grossness, and after trying my friend's Flour Tortillas I regretted having not ordered them instead. Though I typically prefer corn tortillas, and these Flour Tortillas were by no means one of the better flour ones I've had, this was the way to go. The Enchiladas were about the same quality of those at Taco Cabana, but I found myself enjoying these less so than the alternative. The cheese and sauce were average with minimal flavor, the Beans and Rice took up over half of the massive plate and also followed suit on the flavor profile, and though I didn't finish everything on the plate I didn't feel compelled to try. My friend ordered the Mexican Plate (with no onions) which came with an overwhelming amount of Beans and Rice as well, alongside a Cheese Enchilada and crunchy beef Taco. I am curious about the Taco as it was deemed better than the Enchilada albeit not by much, but not enough as to go back to pick one up. Though this restaurant wasn't bad, I'd recommend going elsewhere if you're craving TexMex. It's filling but average, and the food in-house is not much better than the takeout. If you do decide to go however, make sure to pick up extra napkins as the food is on the messier side. read more

Stuck in I-10 traffic and getting hangry, I decide to kill time and feed the beast at Mama Margies place. I can't remember the last time I ate inside at Mama Margies but the dining room was open and mostly empty. After a quick review of the menu, I order the Mexican plate with a beef crispy taco and onions on my enchilada. As I go to find a table, I'm reminded that they have a self-service chip and salsa station so bonus for me. I grab a basket of chips and a few different salsas and wait for my order. They call my order number and I go get my order and it looks and smells so good I can't wait to dig in. The cheese enchilda was good with plenty of cheese, sauce and the onions I asked for. The crispy beef taco was good too but since they placed it on top of the Spanish rice the shell got soggy, and it bottomed out. Note to self: next time ask for the crispy taco on a separate plate :-) The rice and beans were both solid; the freshly made tortillas were warm and toasty and closed the show. Overall, Mama Margies is a solid go to spot for consistently good Tex-Mex comfort food on the quick. I will be back soon. read more

Mama Margie's is good, inexpensive and they have some great chips with warm salsa. They have changed the way you get your chips and salsa due to the pandemic, but it is still unlimited. I always get the same thing. Why fix something if it's not broken. The bean and cheese taco is big and tasty. The corn tortilla is the best. Of course, you can't go to Mama Margie's without getting a margarita or pina colada. They are frozen and always ready for you. Food comes out fast. The staff is typically pretty friendly. I went to Mama Margie's on zarzamora Dr at night to buy my 2 year old daughter and I some tacos. I believe a female by the name Irene took my order. When I received my order my daughter rejected her tacos so I looked at them in the light and it seemed to have finger nail marks on all three tacos. I went to complain and the manager Veronica seemed upset and gave me an attitude and just dismissed me so I left next day I poured out the tea and noticed what looked like a slug or something never again will I return there at night. I've always loved mama Margie's, but the prices are astronomical! I remember when you could get a bean and cheese for .49 cents! Now average cost for a plain taco is $6.00.
