My go to place for breakfast. Usually order the breakfast burrito with bacon, egg and potatoes. Staff is friendly and food is good.

All I can say is YUUUMMMM!!!! My BIL told us about this place, so after we dropped our kids off for school we decided to check this little gem out. This place is a very old building as you can tell when u first go in but don't let the looks discourage you from staying. When you first sit down they bring you chips and salsa and the salsa was not that spicy which was perfect for me and my husband!! After looking on Yelp at the pictures and reviews we decided to go with the Pancho villa and Chiliquiles with rojo sauce. Both dishes were AMAZING...... BUT I have to admit my husbands chiliquiles tasted WAAAAYYYY BETTER than mine and the sauce on his chiliquiles was sooo good I was stealing it off his plate to put on my eggs. Our waitress was great and food came out fairly quickly. I told my husband I want to come back next week and get what he got and then try the chiliquiles verde. Been going here since it opened and today was the only bad service day we had. The B crew young people were preparing and serving not the usual owner, so my husband never got his menudo breakfast. I believe the waitress gave it to another customer who arrived after us, but gave me my dish, then came back to say it's coming, it never came. I finished and nothing came so we told her to forget it, we are leaving. The thing that got me, was there was no apology for the mistake, no discount offered and then says Have a nice day". I ordered a shrimp cocktail and while the taste was okay, I found a piece of plastic in it. Worst thing about the situation, other than the fact my food was ruined, was that the server made an excuse like its a normal thing to occur and she really could care less about the situation. came here for breakfast. the good: salsa was good. chili verde was tender and had lots of flavor. machaca was tender and had lots of flavor. country potatoes had herbs and chilies. they make their own corn tortillas fresh. they make their own tortilla chips. reasonably priced. deductions: the machaca and chili verde a little sweeter than I'm used to. the radio was kinda loud but we were sitting in the back close to the kitchen and I get that music helps people work. read more

We've been here before and had good service. Today, our food took 45 minutes to be served, and it was not busy. Others who came in after us were served their food before us. I ordered a pozole for take out and as im eating it i find it to have a minty taste which is very odd. Then as im scooping the hominy with my spoon i discover a white chewed gum!! The most disgusting experience I've ever had. I used to love coming to buy the pozole here but after todays awful and disgusting experience i will never eat here again. Now I question if they reuse the leftovers and resale to other customers. I can't figure out how a chewed gum would be in the pozole i never chew gum! Most of the food is good, salsa is great, but the service is non-responsive and the beans are always cold. Plus they always say consommé comes with your meals at lunchtime, and they sometimes have it and sometimes don't or won't include it in your to go orders unless you ask. Stopped by to eat here on the way home from San Francisco. Before I review the food: After ordering, I went to restroom to wash my hands. While in the restroom, I saw a cockroach! We had already ordered our food and my husband was not willing to leave. He had a torta, I had a super burrito wet, and my son had two enchiladas with eggs. Onto the food. Besides my run in with a roach, the food was yummy. Their spicy salsa is good however their chips were a little stale. If your in the mood for Mexican breakfast or tacos it's a quick, easy stop. The food is tasty and they offer everything from breakfast, lunch to dinner. I looked for a rating but there was none displayed. I thought all restaurants in California were supposed to have a rating?! I wonder about the cleanliness of the location. The food is really very fresh and very tasty. The refried beans are definitely not from a can. The Chill Relleno is excellent. The carne asada is tasty. The chips are homemade and are incredible. We don't live far and pass by them all the time (10 years). With the hours of some places during the coronavirus we were limited on where to go being we were eating late and a lot if place close early. Then they brought us a small ramekin of soup-brothy noodle and veg. Very good. We ordered chicken enchiladas with mole-so tasty. And a chimichanga with asada, also very good. But the best part honestly were the frijoles. Personally I think this is a Good marker for the rest of the food at any Mexican place/taqueria and theirs were really tasty-and she doesn't make them with lard! I'm not a vegetarian (obviously from my order), but I would feel comfortable taking anyone here. Left this restaurant really happy and can't say enough about the service. Stopped here while driving back home from a long trip and ordered the carnitas burrito plate. Everything was delicious; the carnitas were cooked to perfection, the consomme was flavorful and light, and the chips and salsa they provide for eat-in were hard to stop eating even after I had finished the burrito. My family and I decided to try Mama Lupita's when we were looking for some tasty Mexican food and we were amazed at the food and by the amazing job that they do cooking every meal. I especially loved Mama Lupita's homemade tortillas and their rice. My mom had their Caldo De Res soup and it could've used more improvement but I think this restaurant is a real hidden gem because in Salinas this is a good place for a quick lunch break during work. Great spot- super low key exterior. Everything was homemade- from the chips to the sauces and everything was spectacular. There is complimentary soup with all the plates-it's souper(!) flavorful and delicious. We got the Chile Verde breakfast plate- the eggs were cooked perfectly and the sauce was divine, not spicy just flavorful. I eat lunch here about three time a week. Oscar is usually there and provides excellent service. The food is so original, reminds me of my jefitas cooking, and the corn tortillas are the best. I usually order nopales and eggs with just beans no rice and make me some tacos with the great salsa. The red is spicier than the green tomatillo. The chile Colorado is very tasty and spicy too. The chile rellenos are off the hook as well! Really anything you asked to be made is done like moms home cooking. Take out is available as well and many of the county workers call in and pickup.
