We tried to try Mama D's several months ago but the power went out (due to local construction, not their fault) and we had to leave having just had our coffee. Well, we finally got back around to coming back and had breakfast on a recent Friday morning and loved it. My wife said she would let anyone know who asked about it that it's basically like having breakfast at a grandmother's house--from set up to atmosphere to style and quality of food, if you grew up in the south or midwest and were fortunate enough to have a good cook as a grandmother, you'll remember this kind of down home, no frills, straightforward food. The pancakes are fluffy and buttery, the biscuits crisp and buttery, they can actually cook your eggs to order even if you want them just over easy, the standout (for me) was the hashbrown casserole as it's cheesy and tangy. The gravy is good if I prefer my own (sorry), but it's certainly quicker and easier to let them make it for you! The service here is super friendly and kind. Prices are fair--yes, they're higher now than they probably have ever been due to current inflation, but hopefully they'll drop back down a bit when that eases. It's still fair as we at and had coffee for two and it was less than $30 after a 25% tip. Note--I do wish they'd use less styrofoam as they use it for gravy bowls and water glasses (and I hate that styrofoam that basically never leaves the planet) but the rest of their plateware is rewashable.

#2 and #5 on the menu. Yummy!

The food is incredible, the biscuits and gravy are to die for and omelette was awesome. My new favorite breakfast spot here in Ashland City

Glad I found this place. A nice diner with good service and a full menu. Coffee always kept full and a tasty omelette to boot.

Slow and unapologetic service, makes sense why the Waffle House has a line out.the door. Not worth the wait.

Hash brown casserole is better than Cracker Barrel and Paula Deen's.

My husband loves to eat their Cheeseburger and Fries, but even those were better than they had been in the past. Normally I would order something like a French Dip if it was on the menu, and it was, but I was in the mood for some good, old fashioned Southern Cooking. I got the Seniors Catfish & Two (sides) which were the Turnip Greens & Fries for only $8.99! One Roll came with it in addition to the two Hushpuppies that were included with the Senior Catfish Plate. The Catfish Filet was very, very large and the side of Turnip Greens very delicious and generous in serving size. I also had one of their Cocktails, some sort of Berry Martini which was absolutely delicious! Afterwards, after finding out it was our Anniversary we were surprised with a Hot Fudge Sundae, complete with Hot Chocolate Sauce with Cold Ice Cream on top of a Hot Fudge Brownie to be shared by the two of us! We thought that was so sweet (and absolutely To-Die-For-Delicious) that we tipped our thoughtful waitress 30%. Please don't forget that when service is fast, thoughtful and polite with a measure of sweetness, to tip generously. And if the food is bad it is NOT the Waitress' fault. They don't cook the food; they just relay the order and bring it to you. All of this, including our drinks & tip, was under $50! Thank you, Briana, for being such a fantastic Waitress! -Cyndi & Greg

I met my mother in law here for lunch. She had been here before and really liked the food so…read moresuggested it. We sat outside. The patio area is nice. My mother in law had wanted to sit inside at a booth but for some reason they said they weren't seating that area. Maybe they didn't have a server for that section, but idk. I was happy to be outside tho. It was a really nice day so i was glad to be able to enjoy it. You do have to deal with the occasional revving of engines while people show off as they head to Walmart but nothing anyone can do about that. I ordered the French dip and sweet potato fries. My mother in law got fried shrimp with green beans and coleslaw. The French dip did not come with au jus. I didn't pay attention to the menu so idk if it just doesn't come with it or they forgot it. The server didn't come back until we were almost done so I didn't see a point in asking about it by then. The sandwich was very good, the au jus would have made it exceptional. The sweet potato fries were very good too. I usually try to stay away from fried foods and it was hard for me to stop eating these. My mother in law commented that the green beans were delicious and didn't seem to be from a can. She liked the shrimp too. Unfortunately her cocktail sauce was frozen solid. She was able to get some hot sauce tho so she made due with that. Aside from a few hiccups this place was good and I'd definitely try food from here again. Service was ok. I wish our server would have checked on us a little after we got our food so we could have asked about the au jus and cocktail sauce. It wasn't busy at all so I'm not sure why the service was so meh.

1 star. Absolutely…read moredisgusting experience at China Star. The food was bad enough on its own. The chicken had a weird spongy texture and tasted awful. Neither my wife nor I could enjoy our meal. What completely ruined the experience was watching an employee handle our yum yum sauce. She stuck her bare finger directly into the sauce while filling the container. No gloves. After contaminating it, she still attempted to give it to us and asked if we wanted it anyway. I don't care if hands were washed afterward--the finger was already in the food. The fact that anyone thought it was acceptable to serve it after that is beyond me. Basic food safety and sanitation should not be optional. Watching an employee put their finger into food that is about to be handed to a customer is something I never expected to see in a restaurant. Between the poor food quality and the lack of hygiene, we will not be returning.

We always get the following: Steamed dumplings, spare ribs appetizer, Moo Shu Chicken, and Shrimp with vegetables. Everything is fresh and delicious, and the portion size?! Ambiance is no-frills, which is just fine with us. $45 (before tip) for all this food is unheard of anywhere else, so you can keep a fancy dining room and maintain those savings for us, the customers
