The kalbi patty in the kalbi burger tasted like traditional kalbi but in burger patty form. The produce was fresh and cheese was nicely melted and not overpowering. Although the burger didn't need any condiments, I do wish the patty had a bit of a stronger kalbi flavor. I'd get it again but would probably try other things on the menu before revisiting this. It's not a huge burger but it was satisfying. Place your order to the right then make your way past the meat towards the beverages and other refrigerated goodies and wait for your order number to be called. There were plenty of options on the menu. I was considering the bibimbap, the kbbq bowl or some tacos. I decided on two of the tacos because it was a different option than I'm used to being available, because it had Korean flavored proteins. I chose the spicy pork and kalbi. I was given a choice of corn or flour tortillas which I appreciated. The employee was patient with me as I placed my order. It was my first time visiting this establishment so I took my time reading the menu descriptions. She also advised me my order would take about 10 minutes to be ready. I also found that helpful. I was able to find a seat and even check out a couple other stalls. I didn't realize I would pick up my order at the other end of the stall near the meat counters. I actually think my number had been called but I was expecting to retrieve my order from the same counter I ordered from. The tacos were tasty and had a even filling ratio. Each bite was good. I decided to split my street tacos into two by dividing up the filling. It made me think I was eating a larger portion. I preferred the flavor of the kalbi taco. The meal was satisfying enough. I might try the ma'cho nachos, kbbq burrito or Korean fried chicken next time. All in all I say give it a try. I love when a fusion concept works. read more

Called in my order while I was driving up and it was ready for pickup 25 minutes later when I arrived. They ran out of sweet potato tots so we ended up ordering: Bulgogi sando: looked like a big mess but my friend ate it. Kalbi plate and bowl: 4/5 got the Oakland style (thick cut) and they were thick! Tasty. Kalbi burger: Humm nothing special. Jalapeño tots: 4/5 these were good. Located in a cute food court. read more

I've been searching for a Korean bbq burrito after my favorite one closed down so this place was a must-stop on our day trip to the East Bay. It's located inside of Lake Chabot Public Market to the right of the entrance. They sell branded merch that we were so tempted to buy! They also have a little grocery store section which is perfect if you needed to grab a few things. We ordered the kalbi burrito and bulgogi cheesesteak. She warned us of the wait time before we ordered, which we appreciated. She quoted us 20-25 minutes but it wasn't too long at all! We got our food in about 15 minutes but I appreciated their transparency. Had to take a bite of the French fries first - they tasted like McDonald's! My kalbi burrito was huge, and so good. The ingredients could be spread out a little better, I was eating just plain rice for the first 3 bites. And all of the kimchi was in the very last few bites on the other end. But otherwise the meat was tender, although could've been more of it! I also would've enjoyed some kind of spicy creamy sauce, maybe like a gochujang mayo. The size was plenty and I was able to take home half to eat for another meal. The burrito was closer to a 4 star but my review is going to be a 5 because of my husband's bulgogi cheesesteak. It was also very good size which is good since both were $15 each without any side or drink. The meat was so tender and there was a nice kick to the flavor. The tomato and lettuce were unnecessary since those aren't on cheesesteaks normally but I could eat those peppers all day. They were sweet and not overly spicy. I hope they read this review and tell me what kind of peppers those were because I need them in my everyday meals at home! Really great experience here - I'll definitely remember that cheesesteak! read more

Came to Mama Cho's after a day of fishing at Lake Chabot! Glad to find a place so close since we were starving. This place shares a space with other food stalls in the market. Mama Cho's also has a market where you can buy Korean groceries/drinks. I ordered the bulgogi cheesecake and Kalbi burrito. Not sure if it was because I was super hungry but the cheesecake was fireeee. I loved all the peppers in the sandwiches. The cheese and bulgogi went really well. I wish the bread was toasted though. The burrito was also good! I wish they had other sauce besides just tapatio but overall a good experience. read more

This is my go to place whenever I'm not sure what I want to eat. When I'm depressed and can't stomach anything, my friends know to get me something here for some food. This restaurant is located in Lake Chabot Public market where there are different food items like Boba, ice cream and ramen too. There's a pretty decent sized parking lot where I've never seen really run out of space. If the front is full, there's another back parking lot with more spaces. You have to order the food first, and then grab food on the other side. Whether you call in, order online or order in person, the people working here are always helpful and a pleasure to talk to. There are a lot of picnic tables to choose from in the market from small tables for 2 to big tables for 12 people. My go to at Mama Cho's is the Kalbi burrito. It's the best remix of a burrito using Korean style marinated meat. I'll grab a picture of it soon. I also love all of the appetizers like the macho fries, highly recommend with pork; or try their sweet potato tots; Their regular garlic fries are worth trying as well. I was feeling like a burger today and I also got me the burrito to go (please don't judge me). The Kalbi cheeseburger hit the spot with the right amount of onions, pickles and slices of cheese on a Kalbi patty that adds a hint of sweetness to the savory. The tomato's are a hit or miss for me on a burger so to me, they were just there. As hungry as I was, the burger was not enough for me to be full. I broke into a quarter of my burrito as well and left completely happy and excited for my next meal to finish the rest of my burrito. This place is a must try and I mean everything on the menu. read more

This is located in a food cafeteria type place where there are multiple food options with seating in the middle. Lots of parking available. Korean Fried chicken - chicken wings that were big, juicy cooked perfectly and nicely crispy but the flavor tasted strongly of salt and sugar. For some reason the way the taste made me think of cafeteria food. They were good but a bit like it was made in bulk if that makes sense. Price was okay, if it was any more $$$ I would think it was overpriced. Radishes were a nice touch but they did taste a bit stale or just not as crunchy and fresh as BonChon. If I got this again I would get a different sauce option. read more

My husband and I had lunch here this week. We ordered a 10 piece Korean Fried Chicken for $16 that came with steamed rice and daikon and added an order of Garlic fries for $5 to share. It was an adequate amount for both of us ad the chicken pieces are very small. The flavor on the chicken was light and crunchy. The garlic fries are really coated in the garlic so be ready; They pack a punch and I was pleasantly surprised. Not much in the way of drink options but they do have a small grocery area with a beer selection. They have some unique options like bulgogi cheesesteak that we will definitely try next time we come and they also have a bar with stools inside where you can sit and eat. read more

Mama Cho's has been on my must try list for a very long time. Thankfully for food delivery services, I was able to knock it off my list. There were a couple items I wanted to try. I was in search of a new Korean fusion burrito. My regular spot I would go to had been gone for years. I see that they do Korean fusion burritos. Via a delivery app, I went on to place an order. I ordered the following: - Bulgogi burrito - Bulgogi taco - Chicken nachos The order took about 45 minutes from start to delivery. Everything was packaged very well and hot. The burrito was full of flavor and delicious. The bulgogi was tender. Kimchi, black beans, and rice all wrapped in a flour tortilla. For me, it was missing a fried egg. Unfortunately, there was no option for that, but would love to see it on the menu in the future. The chicken nachos were very tasty as well. The tortilla chips were crispy and chicken juicy and tender. All this topped with sour cream, guacamole, refried beans and cheese. The bulgogi taco was solid. Bulgogi meat topped with pico de gallo, cheese and sour cream. I most definitely will need to try the other menu items next time! A missing void for Korean fusion burrito has been fulfilled. read more

Mama Cho's marinade in their meats is the take away for me. Of course, their meats are if high quality, but when I eat here, it always surprises me how good it is. I tried the burger this weekend and i was pleasantly surprised at how soft and juicy the meat were and marinaded what seems to the be same marinade in their' Galbi. They also have a small refrigerated area that you can pick up precooked items and a refrigerated and frozen food area wth a diversity of korean staples for sale. Plenty of parking on the private building lot too. I ordered the bimbibap ($15) with bulgogi beef and tried their Korean Fried chicken wings($10), which apparently only comes in a plate order that includes a bowl of rice and pickled/cubed daikon. Great spot for some delicious bbq inside a super cute market hall! Mama Cho's is a local favorite and this was my first time going after hearing such good things about their food. The Oakland kalbi is $3 extra while LA short ribs are $4 so I had to go with Oakland since I haven't heard of it before. It was yummy - the side dishes were good too and we picked up some kimchi and packaged cold noodles for a later meal. Spicy pork was good too - though it wasn't all too spicy it was definitely enjoyable! My partner got the burrito and he thought it was great since the kimchi went well with the meat. Give it a try! When I was in the area, I had a huge craving for Korean food and this place showed up for me. This place located in a building called "Public Market" and it housed other restaurants and eateries as well. Looking at the menu, I felt more inclined to try their burrito than anything else. When you order your food, you place it at the register and slide down to the other end of the store for pick up. They also have Korean items for sale as well such as kimchi and meats to bbq yourself. Burrito: I love spicy pork and this burrito was plentiful for me. I was able to eat it in 2 servings due to the massive size of the burrito. It packed a bunch of flavor and it was not too spicy. I would highly recommend it. Garlic Fries: Can't really say much other than it had a strong garlic flavor while also being crispy. OAKLAND KALBI! Came here to try and purchase some meats to grill before football Sunday. My bf and I split the KBBQ plate w/ Oakland Kalbi & spicy pork. Both were so mouthwateringly delicious. The banchan (broccoli, bean sprouts, & kimchi) were equally flavorful as well. Had a better meal here than at any other Korean sit down restaurant we've been to in recent memory. Came to Lake Chabot Public Market which houses a few food establishments and was drawn to Mama Cho's bbq as it looked like an Asian-fusion establishment. I ordered three items: Kalbi burger, spicy pork KBBQ taco, and a small Korean fried chicken (soy garlic). Out of the three items I ordered, my favorite was the Korean fried chicken (5/5). The chicken (drum and wings) were crunchy, juicy, and flavorful. I wish I ordered the large instead of the small option. The kalbi burger overall was pretty solid (3.5/5). However my least favorite item I ordered was the spicy pork taco (2/5) which was surprising because that is what I was most excited to try since it reminded me of kogi time in Los Angeles. Pros: -outdoor seating available -free parking lot -casual establishment -excellent Korean fried chicken Cons: -tacos are a bit pricey in my opinion Other: -they stack up the chairs outside during closing so plan ahead with timing if you come near closing hours if you want to eat on site read more

Walking into the marketplace, I'm always dumbfounded by the collection of vendors, poke, ramen, tea and Korean bbq. I may have missed a vendor or two. However I always by default gravitate to Mama Cho's. This time I spent a bit of time reviewing their menu and wasn't sure what would delight me. So I asked the young man at the counter, he politely recommended the burrito. Somehow, the first item on the menu impressed me more hence my order. I had the bibimbap and blood orange soda. The young man at the counter said it was a healthy choice as well as a good way to get acquainted with their food. The dish is usually served on a bowl and somehow you need to toss it. A sauce came with the dish, it really complimented it. I really enjoyed this dish. I guess I would come back for the burrito especially when my appetite grows. read more

Delicious, reasonably priced, Korean "fast food" with good portions. My KBBQ faves are the pork belly, bulgogi, and LA short ribs. Chicken Ma'Cho Nacho is my second favorite, but it's usually eaten as an appetizer before the bowls or plates. Everything is made fresh to order, so don't expect your food within 5 mins. Always piping hot. They have a good selection of uncooked meat you can buy for ur own preparation alongside prepared appetizers. There's an assortment of produce and drinks in the fridge as well. I really enjoy stopping here for quick and tasty bites. The whole building can get pretty busy but Mama Cho's always seems on top of things and gets their food out to you quick! My fav on their menu is the spicy pork burrito and sweet potato tots. I know burritos are pretty common but the tots are awesome! You can't find sweet potato ones anywhere! Another tasty item is the KFC sando -- both the soy garlic and spicy chili are good, but I feel they both could use more sauce. They provide some sauces and soy on the side you can grab but it would really add to the sandwiches if they already came with it. Was so looking forward to some good Korean BBQ, and was sadly disappointed. Ordered the Bolgogi Cheesesteak and my friend ordered the BBQ bowl. Bowl was pretty small for the price. The pork was tender and just OK in flavor. The Bulgogi cheesesteak was sad and totally not b with the $18+. The flavor again was just OK but all the cold toppings (onions, bell peppers, other peppers) they added made my already not toasted roll even soggier. So when I bit into it, it was half warm'ish from the meat, and half cold from their toppings, and partly soggy. All in all, I would not go back. There are plenty of good Korean BBQ places around... this was definitely not one of them. read more

Review is for Doordash lunch delivery: Mama Cho's BBQ offers up KBBQ (Korean-style BBQ) along with fusion items like tacos, burritos, and cheeseburgers. Korean cuisine, with its marinated and grilled meats, bold flavors, and pickled veggies makes for great fusion. However, I enjoy Korean food straight up so I ordered two KBBQ plates by Doordash. Note although Castro Valley and Danville is theoretically 20 mins drive, it could take Doordash up to an hour or more to deliver your food! The food to me, is worth the wait and surprisingly was still warm. I ordered two KBBQ plate lunches and mixed and matched to get the max sampling of meats. Wife enjoyed her lunch but she was hangry and wasn't too enthused about the hour-plus delivery. Both the LA Kalbi and Oakland Kalbi are worth getting. The LA version is the traditional, thin-cut (flanken style) you see at most Korean BBQ. The Oakland version was even better! Imagine a thick bone packed with meat on both sides. Both of the Kalbi's were juicy and full of flavor. The other meats were spicy pork and chicken. Chicken was okay though slightly dry (due to long delivery time?) while spicy pork was thinly-cut and still juicy. They included kimchi, steamed broccoli, and bean sprouts which were excellent. Much better than green salads from most bento boxes. Definitely a fan of Mama Cho's and my suggestion if you Doordash for lunch is to order early like 11am to account for potentially long delivery time. read more

This food spot is inside Lake Chabot Public Market in the Castro Valley. I was excited to come here because I like small little markets with "hidden gems" in them and although I did not know what this place was going to offer I certainly had high hopes because of the other 5 star reviews. Before my review, I just wanted to say there is a big parking lot right next to the market and there is good maintenance of social distancing inside the market with plenty of room inside as well. There is also a nice outdoor seating area. I decided to get Mama Cho's BBQ because they serve really good smelling kbbq foods. They have rice plates, burritos, and other fusion kbbq foods. The burrito I ordered was exceptionally large (not bigger than a Chipotle burrito) and super filling. The only downside of it was that there was barely any meat in it and too much rice. The taste was there but I feel it could've had a little more "umph" and taste more like the kbbq served at all you can eat. A little more concentrated marinade and I feel it would do the trick. That or it can be marinaded a bit longer. It was also a little pricey because I added bulgogi beef to it. I ended up paying around ~$19 for all of my items (the burrito ~$15 and the spicy fish cake ~4) that you get from the fridge inside the market. Overall I give a 4 out of 5 stars because the place is nice inside, the food is good but I was expecting better, and the price is a little high for what I ordered. I still recommend it if you want to give it a try. It is certainly a cool spot if you want to check it out. read more

Amazing, amazing, amazing ALL AROUND. I remember when Mexican x Korean fusion was a big thing in San Jose and used to follow this food truck around town (completely different company) but have now moved a bit far and their quality went down a lot. I'm SO glad to see one just like it close to me and this place cares about the quality! I've been loving places that offer Korean food without having to go through the hassle of visiting your local AYCE Korean BBQ, so that in itself is already a plus for me because I swear I crave Korean food almost every day. Hahaha. I order the kalbi burrito and sweet potato tots, and they were AMAZING. The meat is marinated really well and whatever was added inside that burrito complimented each other really well. I would've loved to have more sauce on the side but that's just me. The sweet potato tots were tiny ones, which I also loved because they were overwhelming in sweetness. I'd love to come back to try out their burgers! read more

A good spot for lunch! Mama Cho's offers yummy meat that you can choose to eat simply (i.e. in a rice plate) or in fusion burritos/tacos/nachos. For my first time here, I wanted to taste the meat in all its glory, so I ordered the: Rice plate ($18): With Oakland kalbi and chicken! With this plate, you get 2 choices of meat, rice, and banchan on the side. Upgrading to either Oakland or LA kalbi costs an extra $2. This was my first time trying Oakland kalbi, and it was delicious! I'm usually a fan of non-marinated meat, but this marinade wasn't too sweet. The flavor had a lot of umami. I noticed that they chose to only include pieces on the bone which helped the rich flavor, but I do wish there was more meat to eat. The chicken had a spicy marinade and was thigh meat. Also delicious! I just don't think the plate is worth almost $20...but the Oakland kalbi was nice to try; 4/5 stars You can also buy raw/marinated meat per lb at the counter! Yes it is getting more expensive but quality of meats is a grade above your average supermarket/WF deli so it's a premium to pay for. I agree the sit down food menu is not that reasonably priced since the last visit in early 2020 but times are tough. As for your potential home cookout/k-bbq, I think this is probably the best available option in the East Bay vs trekking to Sunnyvale Korean spots. Most meats come marinated (chicken, pork, kalbi) but the minimum purchase in-person is 2 pounds per meat. You can only get one pound if there's any prepackaged ones left in the counter fridge or by reserving it for pickup. The packaged meats do sit in the marinade, which I wish there was less of. It adds to the weight per lb. There is a also a fair selection of prepacked banchan to the left. Pickled radishes, sesame spinach/anchovies, kimchi, bean sprouts, fish cakes. Frozen section also has a bit of dumplings, rice cake tteoboki, lotte yogurt sorbet. A pretty impressive selection of beer and soju as well. This should be a sufficient one-stop shop to plan a family feast. Around the holidays, they usually announce special deals on their IG page. Be sure to check those out as they usually are a good deal and a good opportunity to support a local business. read more
