We were required in elementary school to take part in the school band or orchestra for 5th grade with 6th grade optional (I took part both full academic years: 2002 to 2004), so with an older sibling and me, my parents were looking for reliable music stores. There was a Kennelly Keys close to the house, as well as this Kennelly Keys, that we habitually frequented. This was our destination for questions needing further answering and products not available closer to the house. Workers were friendly and the store well organized. When choosing my musical instrument for band, I decided I wanted to play the alto saxophone. My parents were okay with my choice so long as it was not as pricey as my sister's cello. On one of our visits to this location, the store was having a big sale on used instruments and they had a working alto saxophone available for a good deal. So, I got my first alto saxophone that day. I used it for both years and held on to it for a while before eventually parting with it. It worked well and served its purpose reliably.

He's been teaching for nearly 40 years, and is an active performer playing jazz, classical, and fusion. He is an expert player in a number of different styles, and counts a number of famous musicians as his students. I told Scott what I was interested in learning, and he tailored lessons to my desires. He has a tremendous accumulation of supporting materials - lead sheets for jazz standards, decompositions of rock solos, pages of scales and licks, and the list goes on. It seemed that after every lesson there would be some well-prepared supporting information that I could take home to further my practice and advancement. Scott is also very friendly and patient. The Martin Jr in stock was hanging with the other guitars was ready to play & she set me up to try it out. They had a good selection Martin accessories including a good assortment of guitar strings including the Martin brand so I also bought a spare set of the Martin LifeSpan Phosphor Bronze Light strings. I was short on time so did not get a chance to fully take in the ambience & experience of Dan & Sara's music store, but reading up on Crossroads before hand on their website & stepping into their store, I felt the warm embrace of some good vibes, and appreciate their community involvement in local music events in this very charming waterfront town. I like contributing to local businesses so I not only walked away with a very nice Martin acoustic electric guitar, it felt rewarding to give back. Our instructors regularly checked in on us when we were working on our songs. At the beginning of the week I honestly did not think that I could progress as far as I did at the end of the week with my three songs. Just the other week he wrote his first song on our keyboard that mainly collects dust.....and it really sounded great! I can only credit that to the skill set he's developing with School of Rock! I, on the other hand, have been blown out of the water with my bass teacher, Evan. He is hands down the best music teacher I've ever had. I was a bit nervous to begin taking lessons again as an adult....mainly because I know I had developed some "bad habits" in playing, lost a lot of the knowledge of music theory I had prior to taking a 10ish year hiatus from playing but I also don't have a ton of interest in relearning how to sight read (or even read sheet music at all since tabs are so readily available now compared to when I was a young whipper snapper ). Evan makes learning fun, he's clearly passionate about what he does and it comes across in every interaction I have with him as well as anytime I see him interacting with another student. I appreciate so much that he does not force me to learn to read music or memorize scales, but rather takes a very pragmatic approach with me going over shapes, teaching me compositions that aren't just fun to play but improve my skill set and ability to apply what we go over to multiple aspects of playing bass (and any instrument really). Last night for example, my son finished his lesson a little ahead of me and Evan warmly welcomed him into our lesson, included him in conversation and generally treated him with kindness and respect rather than an irritating little kid which was the impression I got from many of my early music teachers.
