White rice and small, refreshing cucumber salad to complement the curry

So sorry to do this, but like I mentioned on my updated review for Thai First, Maly is another one of those westernized Thai restaurants that does not represent truly authentic Thai cuisine. I have come to this realization after eating at various other Thai restaurants around Chicago, such as Eat Fine By Khun Kung and Kanlaya.

Spring Roll & Soup

Maly Thai AKA Vino's Thai under a new name. The poster on the window says it's the same staff and cook but my grandma's swears it tastes different. I hadn't been under the old name so I have nothing to compare it to. We came during lunch. They have a $12 lunch special that comes with an entree, soup & appetizer. I chose the spring roll and the chicken cashew nut. The spring roll was AMAZING! The chicken cashew nut was also good but nothing to rave about. Overall, a very good lunch deal. Service was good. There was a mom and her daughter sitting next to us and they were VERY unpleasant and difficult customers. The staff handled them well so I wanted to give them a special shoutout.

Pad Thai Chicken

This was my first time having Pad Thai Chicken at Maly Thai. The service was 10 stars I was seated by a lovely gentleman and he said I could sit anywhere. I was going to do pick up, but the place was so cozy, I decided to dine in!!! I had the lunch special!! So glad I did, since you get the love broth soup with noodles and fresh scallions. So delish!!! Then he brought out my FREE appetizer of choice!! I could have egg rolls, spring rolls, salad. I chose egg rolls, they were super fresh & delish!! I got 2, I was shocked. Saved 1 to go home!! Then the star dish came out!! My pad Thai chicken, so delish!! A very generous helping. The reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5, is because the sauce is a little too sweet for me. However, it is still delish. I like things a little spicy and ordered mine medium and didn't feel any heat. However, they had an awesome hot oil & crushed red pepper sauce. I would order it hot next time. If you are thinking of trying! Heck YES!! Find your dish!!

Avocado roll

Positive: Food are really very good. Good atmosphere and waiter are helpful & friendly Negative: I feel that the salmon serving is not enough. Not enough bathroom

Good food and friendly staff. Slow service, order 90 minutes ahead of picking up on weekends. They need a larger kitchen.

We went for Happy Hour and were seated at the bar because all of the tables were apparently reserved. We were greeted by Adam who was the only server in the bar. For Happy Hour they have a few drink specials and all Small Plates are half off. We asked about GF options and he was not too helpful but we made it work. My wife started with a Ginger Pina Martini with grilled pineapple infused vodka. She loved it ,I thought it was too sour. I tried their Toshi Old Fashion with Iwai 45 which is a Japanese blended whiskey. Very good. For our small plates we had Spicey Tuna Crispy Rice,Chicken Lettuce Wraps,BBQ Lollipops and a Philadelphia Roll. Hands down our favorite were the BBQ lollipops..sliced New York strip wrapped around lemongrass with a delicious sauce. On Tuesdays they offer half price rolls which makes us want to go back as some of their signature rolls sounded amazing. Plenty of parking is available and reservations are suggested..even for Happy Hour.

The duck bao buns came two per order and had a sauce to melt the flavor of the duck in your mouth. The shishido peppers came with a sauce that was creamy and complimentary. They have sushi boats that come with four rolls, but I opted to eat three. All of our selection of rolls was pretty and filling. Some ordered hot plates and the portions were grand and they were delicious. We went for a birthday and ordered two desserts. The ube cheesecake didn't have the blueberries on there, as the photos suggested it would, but still tasted great. The chocolate peanut butter cake was also good, but wasn't considered a favorite. Our server Ayden was helpful and got our food out quickly. His service was pretty good and he was friendly. This was lively for a night that was -10 Fahrenheit! It was so busy, so that tells you it's a great restaurant, and I agree.

It's a cozy byob spot with a large menu offering a variety of Thai dishes. We had a big group of 10 people that my brother called ahead for and I have to say that I was pretty surprised they were able to accommodate us on a Friday night given how busy it was throughout our time there. The staff was on it all night so the service was very smooth from appetizers all the way to dessert. I was happy to be able to go with such a large group as we got to sample a bunch of things. For appetizers alone we shared orders of summer rolls, chicken satay, potstickers, money bags, gyo, cucumber salad and the lettuce wraps. For an entree I ordered the Koong Kra Tiem which came with big jumbo shrimp and was really savory. The steamed vegetables were a little bland but wiping up the extra sauce from the shrimp fixed that. Other notable dishes were the basil beef stir fry my dad got and the Green Fire chicken and Thai fried rice my brothers ordered. I really appreciate what Tusk offers in terms of food but what has made them stand out is their commitment to service and how kind they are. I'm sure my family and I will be looking forward to enjoying a meal from their restaurant again soon.

Great food and service. Quiet atmosphere. A hidden gem! Highly recommend. Will be back!read more

Review of Thai Village Restaurant…read more For context, my doctor's practice is nearby so I've passed by Thai Village Restaurant every few months whenever I have an appointment. I always wondered what the food was like but never had the time to check it out because I was usually rushing back to work. But recently, I had Friday off and scheduled my doctor's appointment around that. After the appointment, the weather was nice, and I was starving, so I decided to walk over around lunchtime and finally try it for myself. The place is a bit small on the inside, but it's kept very clean, which I appreciate. The service was also very fast. Even though it was lunchtime on Friday, there weren't a lot of people around, so I was seated almost immediately and a waitress came by to take my order shortly after. I ordered the Panang Curry with chicken (which also came with a side of rice), and a soda. The food came out pretty quickly too, and was steaming hot. I had thought initially since nobody was around, that maybe the food or service here might be bad. I was wrong. I've had a lot of Panang Curries in the past (it's my favorite Thai dish), so I knew what to expect taste-wise. But this was probably the best Panang Curry I've ever had, hands down. It made the other Panang Curries I've had from other Thai restaurants nearby seem bad in comparison. This Panang Curry was spicy (but not *too* spicy), savory, and it had the perfect ratio of sauce to vegetables to chicken. I also really appreciate that this restaurant didn't skimp out on the chicken; other nearby restaurants will throw in just a small handful of meat pieces and call it a day, which ruins the dish in my opinion. This was the ultimate Panang Curry, and probably the best one you'll find in the suburbs of Chicago. Aside from the food, the restaurant was clean, the service was fast, and the staff was nice. I'd highly recommend checking out this place for some good Thai food, or at least stopping by for a quick lunch.

Place is on the small size and was a bit noisy but not too bad. My Pad Thai could have used a little more flavor, and some crushed peanuts, but still very good.
