The Cattleman's Steakhouse next door offered 10% off with a room at the hotel so we walked over and enjoyed a delicious meal. The hotel offered a very nice breakfast buffet in the morning. Nice selection of breakfast offerings: eggs, bacon, biscuits, gravy, waffles, yogurt, fruit, juice, coffee, tea, cocoa, cereals. I've probably been there 10 times over the past 20 years. Prior to Echo Bluff being built, we stayed at various places in Eminence (Rivers Edge, various B&Bs). The accommodations were always Spartan and it was almost impossible to find any restaurants that offered anything more than "Fried something" or hamburgers. All that has changed with Echo Bluff State Park Lodge. The Lodge has accommodations that are orders of magnitude better than what can be found in Eminence and the on-site restaurant has really good food and a menu that is large enough that one could eat several different meals at the Lodge without having to repeat and entree. There is a beautiful creek behind the lodge (about 150 yards) that you can put your lawn chair in, sit back and enjoy the cool stream water and the absolutely gorgeous view of the Bluff.

The main building of the lodge is so rustic, yet modern with a restaurant, nice gift shop, fireplace and a large outdoor deck. The staff was lovely and so helpful. The cabin itself had a small kitchen, 3 bedrooms, one bathroom, deck and living room. For 3 of us, we were very comfortable. I'd have to say the best part of the cabin was sitting out on the deck at night listening to crickets, watching fireflies, and seeing the stars. We lucked out with great weather so were able to enjoy hiking trails within the park, evenings sitting at the creek near the bluffs and pick up from a local rafting company for a river float. The lodge also has the main "hotel" with traditional rooms but I'd highly recommend the cabins for a quieter stay. They're just a short walk away from the main lodge. It was a truly magical and memorable experience here at Echo Bludd.

She said others had been stealing towels in the past, this was our first stay and it was only my girlfriend and I. We woke up in the morning to no hot water, not even warm. We asked another room and they had the same issue. When going to the main office, it was locked and nobody was around. This is a cheap stay but lacks any type of amenities you may be looking for, such as hit water and clean linens. Also, there were 3 cars broken down and being worked on in the parking lot.

They do allow pets to stay for an extra $10.00 a day but if you bring your dogs they will get fleas like mine did and you ll have to stop and dip them before taking them home again. The girl running the place said the owner is sick and never there and I can why. She was very friendly and helpful but that did not make up for us coming into town on a weekend and being stuck in a nasty place with no chance of getting another room some place else. I was also confronted by someone who had already spent on night there while in the parking lot and she said they had mice under their beds and that while they were across the street at the gas station someone had broke out their passenger side window while their suv was parked in the hotel lot. They were already in the second room they had been given at The Colonial Inn and they were leaving after driving 7 hrs for their vacation that was ruined by their experience with the hotel. I will be looking for a different hotel to stay at with my pet s the next time and I wouldn't recommend that anyone stay at this place. It should be condemned.

If you don't want to read the whole review I'll summarize by saying don't book here, it's a rundown…read moreproperty with poor food and no good river access. The bumpy, crumbling, neglected driveway into the property was the first clue. Our cabin was so musty it gave us head aches and runny noses. There was a dehumidifier running (which we emptied three times a day as no one from the property ever came to check on it) and four box fans running when we entered the unit. It had a European style ventless A/C which could not keep up with the heat and left one bedroom unusable at night for sleeping. The furniture looked as if it was from the 60's and the front porch furniture even older. The cabin was sort of clean, the bathroom faucets still had toothpaste spots from previous guests. The porch was just plain dirty with holes in the screens. On a positive note, the beds and linens were more than acceptable and the staff who worked there could not have been nicer. Food is included in your room rent and it was awful. First night dinner..some shredded slaw with a limey dressing of some sort and a plate of oily noodles topped with cube steak cooked with chunks of green peppers and onions..the cook's take on Philly Cheesesteak noodles ??? A small piece of bought carrot cake. No bread, no butter, never a choice, food is served plated. There was a coffee pot in the room which we used the first morning (as well as some complimentary Folgers) only to find not one single mug to drink it. And there were no glasses either which we had not noticed as we had bottled water. We found that when we went to pour some wine! Lunch was a "bag lunch" which would have been fine. In other places we've stayed bag lunch to the river is great, sandwich, chips, piece of fruit and a cookie and that's what we expected. Instead this is what we got, this "sandwich", no mayo, no mustard, and off brand bag of chips, no fruit, no cookie, not even a napkin. The second day was a repeat of the first but this time the sandwich was a blob of cold pulled pork on a bun and the chips, nothing else. It was like the pork you buy at Sam's Club but you would serve it heated! The charge for this wonderful food was $55 per day!! And the beautiful Black River could not be seen from the property. You had to walk down the long hill, cross the two lane gravel road, make your way through the brush to find a treacherous set of steps to reach the river. In short we left early. It is impossible to understand the 5 star reviews unless written by someone with interest in the property, especially the one written by "Sabrina". If you are looking for a place to stay go to the Black River Lodge, the property is cared for, lots of activities, three family style meals a day, and a well maintained set of steps that take you right to the river. Interestingly, these properties are owned by the same people, but Wilderness Lodge has certainly been neglected.

She was friendly, hospitable, pleasant and very helpful! She honored my request for a 1st floor room, which was very clean and tidy! On my last night, I needed to wash my laundry, but didn't have any detergent. Ms. Trinity gladly provided a little of hers without hesitation and reimbursement, which saved a trip into town. Hardys Spring Lodge is a very nice place to stay and hope to return back soon. Ms. Trinity was a very pleasant surprise and a rare treat! THANK YOU for the fantastic customer service!
