From the moment I arrived, the experience stood out. I chose the self-parking garage adjacent to the hotel rather than valet, and it was exceptionally clean, well-lit, secure, and easy to navigate. Finding the elevators was simple, and the elevator security system is truly state-of-the-art. I honestly haven't seen anything quite like it at any other Marriott property. The hotel itself is first class from top to bottom. The cleanliness throughout the property was outstanding, and every staff member I encountered was professional, polished, and welcoming. Their appearance and attention to detail reflected the luxury standard that JW Marriott is known for. I stayed in a spacious suite that was beautifully appointed. The bathroom was particularly impressive, featuring dual sinks, upscale finishes, and plenty of space. The only minor drawback was that the television wasn't directly in front of the bed--it was positioned off to the side. Since I wasn't there to spend time watching TV, it wasn't a significant issue. The fitness center is excellent, and I also enjoyed exploring the outdoor seating areas, which are thoughtfully designed and very inviting. I took a look at the meeting rooms as well, and they featured elegant furnishings, quality tables and seating, and a professional atmosphere that would be ideal for business events. Although I didn't have the opportunity to dine in either restaurant, both appeared vibrant, immaculate, and well attended. The lobby is beautifully designed with comfortable, eclectic furnishings that create a sophisticated yet welcoming environment. I also appreciated the pleasant signature scent throughout the hotel. If I had one additional suggestion, it would be to improve the Wi-Fi speed and perhaps refresh the background music with a slightly more modern, upbeat luxury playlist to better match the hotel's incredible atmosphere. Overall, this is one of the finest Marriott properties I've visited in recent years. The Core Memories: We did a slow Saturday morning with in-room dining, followed by a personal hangout with Chef Claus at 11 AM. Hyatt Centric Old Town Alexandria, Virginia…read more When Bruce Springsteen announced he and the E Street Band would be performing at Nationals Stadium in D.C., I reached out to family and friends to see if they could be in town for the show. When my sister responded that she could make the show I immediately looked for a hotel in Old Town Alexandria (VA). I've lived in Alexandria for 14 years and believe we're well served by the hotels operating locally. Because she would be arriving from New York on Amtrak, I looked for hotels in Alexandria that are within walking distance of the King Street Metro station. There's an Embassy Suites, a Hampton Inn, a Hilton, and a Hyatt Centric, all within a five-minute walk from the Metro station. Right from the start the experience was a good one. My reservation was quickly recognized, as was my membership in the World of Hyatt, Hyatt's loyalty program. I was able to cover the cost of two nights ($580.92, including taxes, total for the two nights) when I checked my sister into the hotel. The hotel is perfectly located for using the Metro bus and rail lines (a five minute walk to Metro's Yellow and Blue lines and bus lines) - including the bus that will take you across the river to the MGM Grand Hotel in Oxon Hill, Maryland. There's also a free bus and trolley circulator and free DASH buses that all share a bus stop directly across the street from the hotel. The bar is well stocked and staffed by friendly and courteous bar staff. There's a valet service (best to check first about the cost - I think it was $45 per night but I didn't need it so I'm not sure I have the price right). The Hyatt Centric Old Town is probably the newest of the national brand hotels located near the King Street Metro station. It's clean, reasonably priced for the area, and as far as I can tell it's a safe and secure option for visitors to the DMV (District, Maryland, and Virginia).

Suggested I process the check in and come back later to pay for parking on that card and valet the car. I had a function to be at and no time for this. Unacceptable! Staff should have expertise in multi tasking and have the capability to do this. This was not an unreasonable ask. Overall, this stay was a perfect location. The bed slept well and it was sufficient for a two night stay. I'm typically not a Hyatt customer. This hotel was chosen because it wasn't extremely dated like many of the others in the area.

The carpet in the room was noticeably worn out, there was a stain on the outside of the blanket, and the pillows were very small and had almost no support. The TV was also very basic, with none of the YouTube or other streaming features I've come to expect from Hilton properties. Overall, the room felt dated and poorly maintained and was definitely below the standard I expect from Hilton.

I have allergies and struggle with staying in older places sometimes but had no issues here. Our room was directly across from the elevators but there must be decent soundproofing because we never heard a thing. That said 2 of the 3 elevators were out of service, which for a 12 story hotel is kind of an issue. There were red tags from the city or county on them saying they hadn't passed inspection essentially. Now I had read in another review prior to staying here that another person experienced this, and management responded saying it has now since been resolved, but clearly not or it's an ongoing issue. We stayed on a weekday so it wasn't a really big deal to us, but I imagine if it was a weekend it might have been more of a bother. Breakfast came with the room and was good, basic stuff but well prepared and nicely presented, even individual bowls of fruit chilling on ice which was a nice touch. The dining room team did a nice job of keeping things stocked and cleaning up dishes. The service at the front desk was friendly, Kwanice, checked us in, was so pleasant, and the lady who assisted checking out (I forget her name) was also very nice. The location is right off the highway, only about 15-20 min from DCA and a few more min from the Mall, and it's across from a actual mall with various restaurants and shops, right off the highway. I enjoyed the free breakfast, though I wish they had a waffle maker. The free hotel breakfast was a little bit "fancier" than I am used to, they used actual plates (not paper) and you had to sit down there to eat instead of having the option of bringing it into your room. I loved the fruits they had, rarely do I see watermelon at a hotel breakfast :) The only reason I took off a star is because the Wi-Fi was down for at least a few hours when we stayed. I was a bit confused why they didn't tell us that information when we checked in, we had to ask later on and they told us it was a known outage and they were working on it? However, I know that is probably a rare occurrence, so even with that experience, I definitely would stay the night here again!

They do daily events like chocolate apples, drinks, and other interesting snacks in the lobby at certain times. I like those small perks. The service in my room was good too -- daily cleanings and leaving small trinkets like water and chocolates. That was great. The lobby and bar were well done, with good music playing and good bar service. However, my room itself was questionable. The TV couldn't play any audio the first night. I tried several things, nothing would work. Mysteriously it fixed itself by the next day after I came back to my room, maybe the cleaning staff figured it out. My bathroom had a weird drain dripping sound any time I used the sink -- it would drip for 5-10 minutes. It didn't impact me aside from being strange. The in room amenities are way too pricey. I get it's the Ritz, but it's $10 for a water and $12 for a handful of skittles. I just walked to the CVS across the street instead. The building itself is decent, but doesn't feel super premium in my opinion, especially vs other Ritz. I do prefer this property to Crystal Gateway Marriott by a lot, though.

The historic aspects of the Inn are outstanding. The cleanliness is on point. Until my last visit, I would have sworn I'd stay there every opportunity I had. The only consistent complaint I have in all four visits was the AC either stopped working completely (requiring multiple engineer visits but the plus was complimentary wine) or was near broken and not cooling predictably. Other than that, this place was like my dream home away from home. However, there has been a significant drop in service by the front desk and reservation staff starting in fall of 2025 which has accelerated in spring of 2026. Over a four night stay in May, three mornings there was either no sugar, cream or coffee available during reasonable coffee times (7:30am) and I had to go to the desk to request restock. Also, someone reported to the front desk that a large roach was in the men's lobby restroom sink...the women at the front desk (also day shift) laughed and said they weren't dealing with it. These same employees made fun of some visitors who accidentally came to the wrong business by mimicking them after they left. I've received a few emails promoting an incentive for a return visit, but it has "?errors" all over it even when I open in different browsers. When I call about what it entails, I am told they don't know. And that's if I can get them to answer the phone. I've tried emailing and have received no reply after more than a week. Regretfully, I've booked another Inn for my next visit...I truly enjoyed most of my stays at the Governor Calvert House, but I don't like the direction its service has headed and it's too much money to spend for poor service. THIS DOESN'T APPLY TO HOUSEKEEPING OR THE NIGHT SHIFT EMPLOYEES-they continued to be outstanding.

The furniture with outlets basically all do not work, making it harder to find places to charge anything. The window by the bathroom is broken and was taped back together with painters tape. The bathroom wallpaper was coming off the walls and the shower curtain was falling out of the wall. We tried to twist it back up in place but the wallpaper and wall where it is screwed in appears pulled away from the wall and needs more serious repair. Lastly, $50 per day for valet when there are basically no other parking options is pretty steep and they don't openly share the cost upon check in... just beware of the cost in case you want to make alternate arrangements! If they took a little more care to clean less trafficked areas and ensure things are repaired and in working condition prior to guests staying in the room, this would be a really awesome place to stay.

About a day before I received information regarding mobile key access. I downloaded the app and was given a code to access my reservation. I checked in the morning of via the app and was advised they would let me know when my room was ready. Surprisingly, it was ready before 11am. I chose to drive instead of taking the metro.The directions provided took me directly to their garage. I parked on the sixth floor and used my mobile key to access the hotel door and elevators. I selected my floor and it assigned me an elevator that took me directly to the 15th floor. I had a King Junior suite. It was clean, spacious, modern, beautifully decorated, and had a lovely view of the Perch. The Watermark had many highlights. The first was the Perch. It offers swings, live music, food trucks, putt putt, a dog park, and a restaurant that you could get to from the 11th floor. It's family friendly and an overall beautiful space. Another highlight, is that Capital One Hall is literally around the corner and less than a 4 minute walk. It's a great location if you're attending a show which I was. Lastly, is breakfast is included. They offered Belgian waffles, grits, chicken and pork sausage, scrambled eggs, potatoes, hot cereal, cold cereal, yogurt, fresh fruit, juices, coffee and tea. I consider that a pretty good selection. The customer service was good. The staff that I encountered were very polite and professional. I would definitely stay here again and recommend to couples, families, or solo travelers. Things to note: parking is $25, check in is 4PM, check out is 12 PM, breakfast on the weekend is from 7-11 and weekdays 6-10.
