Chicken Vincent and possibly (?) collard greens.
    Brittany M.

We passed this restaurant, tucked in the middle of nowhere, en route to antique shopping, and it piqued our interest. So, we made reservations, and made the drive to return. We will say, in fairness, tastes are regional-and this appears to be a locals' hangout for casual dining. For example, what some would find over-salted, others might thoroughly enjoy. The menu may be slightly confusing, as it's printed out on a piece of paper, and not delineated (starters versus entrees). But the server kindly pointed out the differences. The credit card surcharge is clearly printed on the bottom of the menu to avoid misunderstandings. The decor is minimalist (a good thing) and it's clean, including the restrooms. The music (from rap to Billie Eilish) was eclectic to say the least, it made for a peculiar juxtaposition. There were sports channels on the screens in the main dining room-another peculiarity. The lovely young lady who was our server was 5*, super sweet, with one of those gorgeous Southern drawls that I could listen to all day. She was attentive, whilst simultaneously giving us our space. I ordered the Chicken Vincent, which was a smallish, thin chicken breast, a tad salty, but the cream sauce w/artichokes definitely has potential. The greens, again regional, were something I passed on. My husband ordered the ribeye steak, which he said was cooked perfectly, with whipped garlic baby red mashed potatoes. But again with the salt. We passed on dessert for personal reasons. The meal came to $80/$100 with a water and one glass of beer.

This is a MUST stop-in if you are anywhere close to Summit, MS! Friendly staff, great atmosphere and the food is consistently delicious!

    Duck tenders appetizer

One of my favorite places to eat ribeye steak! And the duck tender appetizer is amazing. But my all time favorite is the lamb lollichops drizzled with a fig reduction sauce. Makes me want to lick the plate! I don't care for the tomato salad that comes as a side, but I changed out with the wedge salad and enjoyed every bite!

Great atmosphere and food. We stop every chance we get. Love the duck strips and always are always cooked to perfection.

I've had multiple foods from the Mallard, including the Crawfish Pie, Veggie Duo, Chicken Vincent, and the bread pudding dessert. GET THE BREAD PUDDING. Trust me. You. Will. Get. Addicted. Everything I've had is delicious! The atmosphere of the Mallard can't be beat. It's such a classy place and unlike any other restaurant in the area! When you go inside you kind of feel like you've escaped Pike county. Lovely! Wonderful staff and just all around a great place to eat.

New fine dining in rural Mississippi. Great potential, so will look forward to more stars, but 3 for now with room to grow. Staff is extremely friendly. Nice wine selection. Monotone decor with some amazing wood trim could use some increased lighting, artwork, perhaps. Bar set up is very nice. Had reservations but was seated in bar table area, which was a little loud. I was a little put off by the character who showed up in a camo hunting cap lingering at the bar. That hat wasn't removed while dining! Menu selection was okay. Duck tenders seemed processed, but okay. Wedge salad was very fresh and tasty. I had the surf and turf. Friends had the soft shell crab entrée and 8oz ribeye. Friend who ordered soft shell didn't care for its mushiness. May have not been served timely while it was hot. Owner graciously agreed to take this off of our tab. There's an amazing attached space for larger, catered events, which is converted from an old southern baptist church. It's a hilarious thumb in the eye of the evangelicals who may not approve of drinking, much less in a "church!" Lighten up, bible thumpers, it's a restaurant and event space, not a holier-than-thou sanctuary any longer!!! Wishing Mallard great success to bring some culture to an otherwise sleepy area of Southwest Mississippi.

    Duck tenders...amazing!

Excellent atmosphere, service and food! I would go back anytime and recommend to all!

Staff wants good tips! Teach them how to get them! - no drink refills until asked and even then it was 50/50 - almost left table without taking all the orders - Kept trying to deliver food after we finally (took 3 long trips) had all our food - no pre-bussing (see pics) - ordered water with no ice (not a concept here?) - salt and pepper for the table? See picture of what we were told (20 mins after receiving food) was the only pepper in the place. Did receive salt shaker finally. - had to ask for steak knife to go with my steak. - husband had to eat his gumbo with a fork because no spoon was offered - baked potatoes ordered, came.out wrong and then were delivered cold with not enough butter and no sour cream or cheese. - were never asked if wanted more wine - were not asked if we wanted dessert She disappeared when she would deliver something as if tired and running away. There were no less than 4 staff standing around at the reception desk- we were 9ft away- none asking of they could help our server - 2 more standing at the bar. We were thirsty! - Ceasar salad with no Romaine in sight $375 & that is what we got. (Party of 8) We went despite 2 of the party warning that it was no good. They had a bad lunch experience with "shrimp & grits" (grits were like paste) & crab cakes (not cooked through and very mushy) Would Only recommend of they get Training on how to serve tables. The cooks can't carry the place alone.

Finally, each and every dish, from salad to dessert, was house made and delicious. One could taste each ingredient and the portions way more than adequate. With most places these days being so casual that they're sloppy, it was a welcome change to have a "nice" place to dine. McComb is lucky to have such a superior Italian restaurant. I know of many cities several times the size of McComb and they have nothing to compare. I have no connection with the owners in any way, shape or form. This is a totally unbiased review.

My husband was scratching around looking for somewhere to eat in McComb and happened upon this…read moreplace. I didn't even read the yelp reviews because I knew it had to be good food based on reading the menu. Once we were waiting for our meals I decided to check out yelp. Any review below 4 stars had huge red flags. Let's address those right out of the gate. 4 bites for a portion. Really? Let's be honest in our review. Unless your mouth is the size of a Mack truck, that's an exaggeration to say 4 bites. Maybe too small for your preference but our plates along with all we saw go by were plenty for anyone eating a normal serving. I even took some with me and I'm a pig. I always eat more than a healthy portion. The pasta wasn't cooked enough. People. Al dente. To the tooth. We overcook pasta in the US. That's why it runs our blood sugar up. The glycemic index goes up the more you cook it. Now you don't have to conform. You're welcome to ruin a good steak by cooking it well done and you're welcome to order your house made pasta cooked until it's floppy. (Insert me biting my fist and sobbing) That's on you but don't blame the kitchen for cooking good Italian American food the right way. Our candle wasn't lit. Wahhhhh. seriously? These are humans. They can forget. Just ask someone to light the candle and stop leaving ridiculous reviews on yelp that don't help people decide if the food is good. Now for our review: We were met by a young lady who was pleasant and seated us right away. Mind you it's lunch on a Sunday. By the time we left, there were just a couple vacant tables. Our server, Jonathon was very pleasant, attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. My husband ordered the chicken Parmesan, but he tweaked it to his liking. He asked for his fettuccine to be served on the side rather than under the chicken. He also asked that the Marina still be on the chicken Parmesan, but that his pasta be tossed in an Alfredo - cream sauce. I ordered the spicy rigatoni with the breaded chicken cutlet. Pictures of both are below. The kitchen did forget his marinara sauce on his chicken but the server caught it as soon as he put the plate down and brought Mike a ramekin of marinara for his chicken. Both dishes were incredible. Everything was cooked perfectly. We chose not to stuff ourselves into oblivion so we asked her to go containers and we also got a piece of the cookies and cream cheesecake to go which I also included a picture of in the to go container so don't talk about how ugly the picture is, that's on me. They do serve focaccia bread with dinner. The server said the first order is on the house and after that you pay for subsequent orders. You can ask for focaccia with lunch, which we did not do because we were not aware until after we saw someone else getting theirs. As far as prices, people....we are in a post covid inflated era. This is house cooked, not bought precooked from Sysco and heated in a microwave. If you think you can cook this type of food cheaper at home, try it. I dare you. I cook. A lot and it costs a lot. Have you made a homemade cheesecake lately? No?why? Because it's expensive and a lot of trouble. I amke 1 every couple of months. I sell something to pay for it and gripe the entire time about how much trouble it is. Stop your belly aching about how much it costs and just go to Olive Garden and eat bread sticks and bottomless soup or salad. The restaraunt is cozy with white cloth table clothes that add a touch of elegance but it doesn't feel too froo-froo. We live an hour away from this place and we are excited about driving back. Keep in mind that we are old and don't like to drive anywhere and won't even drive into our town right here to get food. Don't pay any attention to the bad reviews. Those people either don't have good taste, are petty or they don't get out very often.

I drove well over two hours JUST TO GET THERE and once we were there we had to wait until they had enough people to seat a whole table, no problem there. Once we sat and we got to look at the food I was immediately disappointed. A good portion of the items on the table were canned vegetables, black eyed peas, lima beans, green beans, beets, and some sort of canned corn salad. Everything was served in hard plastic bowls that rotated on a dais and was constantly being refreshed/reheated by wait staff. Many of the reviews I read expressed a grand fondness for the fried eggplant. I wasn't so sure about that not a big fan to begin with, but this was also disappointing, crispy on one side, soggy on the other and the sponginess of the eggplant itself was not appealing. There was however, one exceptionally good item on the table that saved this from being a complete and total waste of time. The fried chicken was absolutely outstanding, and I would opt to go back just for that but ONLY if I was in town for something else. There was also an assortment of "desserts" if that is what you can call them. There was a brownie/flourless chocolate cake abomination, some canned banana pudding concoction, there may have been bread pudding, I am not sure, and a slice of pie that disappeared as soon as it was on the dais, it never made its way to me before it was gone. The concept is actually quite unique and the experience was delightful, however the execution falls way short regarding the food. I would love to recommend the restaurant but it you are an adventurous eater, I would tell you to pass on this one as it is not worth getting up early, leaving two hours before the restaurant opens to get there during their paltry hours of 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and then having to drive back home with regret and your dinner sitting in your gut like a stone.
