My favourite beach in the Greater LA area. The Malibu Lagoon is where Malibu Creek meets the Pacific Ocean. This where all the surfers go.

As a wedding videographer and photographer based in Southern California, I've had the opportunity…read moreto work at many venues throughout the region. Each location offers its own personality, but Adamson House continues to stand out. The combination of historic architecture, hand-painted tile details, and the unobstructed Malibu coastline creates a setting that feels both intimate and expansive. Lighting throughout the property changes beautifully as the sun moves, especially during golden hour when the ocean backdrop becomes incredibly dynamic on camera. From a production standpoint, the layout allows for a natural flow between ceremony, portraits, and reception. The oceanfront lawn offers open space for wide scenic compositions, while the Spanish-style courtyard adds depth and texture for more detailed, artistic shots. My team documented a wedding there under our studio name, Prince Weddings (PrinceWeddings.net), and the experience reinforced how well this venue photographs and films when thoughtfully planned. This review reflects only my direct experience working at the property and is shared to help couples better understand what it offers from a visual and logistical perspective.

Beautiful historic home and State Park in the Malibu area. Lots of events are hosted here, but the…read morelogistics (if you're the organizer) are incredibly challenging. There is essentially no practical parking in this area if you're looking to visit the house and the surrounding park/beaches directly. Beach parking fills up fast and is run by LA County (so your parking passes won't work), and street parking is filled by the surfers very early in the AM. Services and resources on the grounds are very limited (bathrooms, etc.), but the area is very well preserved as a historic location by the State Parks staff. May be very challenging to visit, but if you're here for an event, take a little time to explore the area.

Beautiful park. We love the playground and the hilly grounds. Never had a chance to visit the…read morehistorical buildings but have enjoyed the park numerous times. Today we brought our dog and he met a few dogs to play with. The kids love the playground, climbing trees, and running around. They recently removed the picnic benches and I'm wondering if they will replace them?!! That was inconvenient since we brought lunch and had to sit on a blanket on the grass instead of at a table. At least they have nice green grass!

I always try to be fair in my rating system and rate things based off their potential. For example, I recently rated the (somewhat) nearby Pleasant Valley Historical Society Museum and Botanical Gardens a 5 because they're really doing the most with what they have. I hate to give a free museum less than 4 stars, but there just wasn't that much to do or see at this one. They had some cool things, but really nothing hands on. The tour begins with a 10 minute video, which we didn't make it through as I had my 3 year old with us. The house itself had some neat things to see, and I learned some interesting things... The highlights for me was learning that the phrase "sleep tight" comes from the old beds that literally are on ropes that you can adjust! And that the bread was divided based on status... the workers got the more burnt bottom part, and so on up, which is where we get "the upper crust". Make sure you see the original mission bell outside that was moved here for an eagle scout project in 1988. Also, the artifacts in the original barn (where the welcome center is) is probably the coolest part. I really enjoyed the room behind the main room that has special events. That room was pretty relaxing for some reason. After visiting a bunch of these, I just felt that The Reyes Adobe was a bit less exciting than the others with less to do. I hear they have an amazing Halloween festival, so we'll have to check that out! If you're into history, this is definitely a place you can explore. I would personally bundle this in with a few surrounding museums and that will make for a nice day! But my toddler wasn't really having this one. Very nice folks who worked here though! A+ for them!

The world loves a dreamer. And dreamers come in all different forms. Grandma Prisbrey began living…read moreher dream at age 60, on her third marriage, by using found materials from a local landfill and creating her own art environment called Bottle Village. Grandma P lived on the property after a colorful life; she had 7 children with her husband who was 37 years older than her and reportedly worked as a singer in a bar at one point. She may have been something of a hoarder (she build one building just to store her pencil collection) and used her collections as raw materials for the art and buildings on her property including the Pencil House and the Round House. A group of us attended a private tour (suggested donation $15 per person) led by our fantastic tour guide, Debbie. She provided us with fascinating local history of Bottle Village including how a developer almost tricked Grandma P out of the property (he committed suicide three months later, guilty conscience?) and how some local politicians blocked FEMA funds from helping Bottle Village rebuild after the Northridge earthquake. Luckily, a nonprofit was organized to support and maintain this unique work of art. We learned that Bottle Village has appeared in a number of architecture and history books. It is truly a unique art expression on so many levels, not the least of which is the age and gender of the artist. Please contact the nonprofit at the internet link below if you would like to schedule a tour. Highly recommended. http://www.bottlevillage.com/
