Never once have I felt exposed, overly vulnerable, or insecure about the way I look or perform. -She listens and supports your personal goals. Over the 9 years my goals for fitness have varied from injury prevention (for lifting/moving patients), weight/fat loss, and functional mobility. And every time I change my goal, she adapts. -She is extremely knowledgeable. Prior to working out at Bulates, I did privates with an instructor who had a reformer at her house. I went religiously three times a week for years, never realizing that my positions were wrong, never really properly stretching and there wasn't the same attention to form. I still loved it and got a lot of benefit, but not like now. Not only are the instructors here extremely well trained, but they keep things interesting and new by changing it up constantly. This also encourages your body to use muscles you didn't even realize you had! There's more emphasis on your core, every single muscle group, flexibility and balance. It sounds corny, but I feel like I've really gotten to know and strengthen my body. And I used to do MMA and taekwondo, and still didn't achieve the overall strength that I have now. Finally, because I have gotten so much benefit, I got my 78 year old Dad into it. After one class he absolutely fell in love with Pilates. If you've got an old injury that you're trying to heal from, if you're currently going to physical therapy, talk to your doctor and consider adding Pilates. I could see the years of experience in her, from her tall lean posture- to the way she styled the studio. I myself am a pilates instructor with over 20 years of experience teaching private sessions in small boutique studios and physical therapy clinics throughout Los Angeles and the conejo valley. I am not a fan of the current teaching methods and the lack of investment in my field. It seeems Pilates became diluted into something for 20 year olds to get in shape instead of learning the practice of proper alignment, a whole body and mind approach to movement and a deeper connection to the body. Most importantly is to have an invested teacher who can transpose this method into effective verbal and tactile cueing so that the clients are able to execute movement to their highest potential.
