I came here for a one night staycation at the end of April. The location is absolutely stunning as it is right on the ocean front at Carbon Beach in Malibu. The building is three stories, I believe and each room has balcony access. I got an oceanfront room. The view from the balcony is absolutely stunning! The best part of my stay was the breakfast room service where I got an omelette, potatoes, steel cut oatmeal and fruit juices. I ate outside to the stunning ocean views and crisp sunny beach weather. Each room is very cozy and has an electric fireplace. Since I went at the end of April, I definitely used the fireplace at night. I ordered a large baked chocolate chip cookie à la mode in the evening before bed and ate it in front of the cozy fireplace. Another impressive feature was the heated Toto toilet in the restroom. I'm normally grossed out by hotel toilets but this fancy toilet made the toilet inviting and attractive. The toilet was sensor flush and you could use it as a bidet too I think, though I didn't use it that way. The bed was very comfortable and the shower had many settings that made it feel like a spa shower where the jets were able to hit different parts of your body like a jacuzzi massage feature. The reason I'm giving four stars is for the cleanliness of the restroom. The room was nearly $1000 a night so I expected the whole room, including the restroom to be spotless. However, there was some leftover hair in the sink and shower from the previous occupant. That really grossed me out and affected my general impression of the place. Hopefully they will improve their house keeping maintenance so I can change my rating to five stars. Overall, it was a great staycation however. read more

We were really looking forward to visiting Malibu Beach Inn Restaurant after seeing the Sunday Happy Hour advertised on their website. Unfortunately, our experience was incredibly disappointing. When we arrived, we were greeted by the manager, who appeared tired, disengaged, and completely uninterested in helping us. We asked about the advertised Happy Hour, and he abruptly told us they don't have Happy Hour. When we pointed out that it was listed on their website, there was no explanation or apology. We then asked if we could sit in the bar instead, and he immediately said no because they were "too busy" and had a private party. However, there were numerous empty tables throughout the restaurant, making his explanation difficult to understand. Rather than trying to accommodate us or offer an alternative, he was dismissive and made us feel unwelcome. Customer service is everything, especially at a luxury property like the Malibu Beach Inn. If your website advertises a promotion, it should either be honored or removed, and guests should be treated with courtesy and respect. We left feeling frustrated and disappointed and chose to spend our money elsewhere. I hope management addresses both the inaccurate information on their website and the lack of professionalism we experienced. Unfortunately, based on this visit, I cannot recommend the restaurant. It's very disappointing because we have been there many times before the fires and even stayed at the hotel and never were treated this way before. read more

Although I recommend this business based on its location, atmosphere, this critique is directed towards the restaurant. This hotel charges anywhere from 600 to over $1000 a night so it is not in a class of Hotel where you expect them to skimp on the food. However, the bakery goods they serve are brought in from somewhere else, not prepared on site, and refrigerated so when you have a chocolate croissant, you have the choice of having them bake it, which turns into melted chocolate or not warmed, which makes it taste like rubber. While this is somewhat of a petty complaint there are just certain things you expect of hotels that cater to people who can pay anywhere from 600 to a couple thousand dollars a night and you expect that certain things are in line with that degree of expense. However, in this case, not only the croissants, but the food and menu is somewhat marginal and clearly they are in need of someone new overseeing the kitchen Also, when I did ask for the manager, someone introduced himself as a person who was on duty not necessarily the manager in the response I got is something that I really dislike. The response is that we've been doing this for years. Having refrigerated bakery goods is not something they should be doing for years at this type of restaurant. This is one thing that really needs to be changed if I want refrigerated, croissants, or pastries I I can go to Ralph's or Vons or a grocery store. The establishment is located in a hotel, as you walk in you are greeted by a picturesque view of the the ocean. We arrived early and were seated outside with a view of the beach and the sounds of the waves, it was stunning. Mathew our server was exceptionally polite and provided great service. The food was very tasty and well prepared with a great presentation. Given the quality of food the ambiance and exceptional service the price was a great value. I absolutely loved my stay at this hidden gem on Malibu Beach. It's peaceful and private, and the rooms are spacious, spotless, and incredibly comfortable--every little convenience has already been thought of. But what truly sets this place apart is the staff. Every single person I interacted with--from the valet to the front desk to housekeeping and room service--was the definition of top-tier hospitality. They were friendly, professional, and completely focused on making your experience amazing. I've never encountered a team this consistently excellent anywhere in the world. The only real letdown was the food-- otherwise, this would be five stars it was overpriced and, unfortunately, pretty underwhelming, especially compared to how flawless everything else was. I'm not surprised this hotel has a rating under 4 stars, especially with only a few hundred reviews. They alllll share my same issues too after reading, so we're definitely all in alignment here. The views are beautiful and the location is scenic, but unfortunately the overall experience did not match the price. * Service completely changed once the stay was ending. Before and during the trip, staff was overly attentive, warm, and made us feel very valued, but as checkout approached the tone noticeably shifted. * Once we left, communication became dismissive, rude, and unhelpful. It honestly felt like once the stay was over, they no longer cared about the guest experience. * The walls were extremely thin, and we could hear neighbors until around 1 a.m. (have videos for proof. even though we never complained) THEN We then received a noise complaint the next night while simply watching TV at a normal volume. * The poor soundproofing made the room experience frustrating and not relaxing. * The promised $150 Leaders Club credit was not reflected on the final folio, and the full housekeeping opt out credit was also missing. * I also tried to apply a $1,500 prepaid credit before arrival, and it took weeks of back and forth & there has STILL been no clear resolution. * Email and concerns have been shared and it's been almost 2 weeks (in total) with NO response. *I'm sure positive reviews are from the view? This has always been a favorite of mine and I think it always will be. There's something intimately charming about it where each interaction is memorable. I only dock 1 star because I do feel at over $1,000 a night they could elevate certain aspects and experiences on the property; rooms could use some extra detailed cleaning for example; the restaurant staff could be trained to the same effect at the front desk agents which greet you by name. I drove to Malibu from Oceanside for an appointment with my fabulous dentist and didn't want to drive through traffic to get home. The problems started the moment I checked in. I slept with the key to the room outside in the lock. I couldn't remove it. Late that night someone checked into the room next door to mine. The bed in that r was against the wall and I heard more than I ever wanted to hear. I couldn't drown the noise because the internet didn't work, meaning I had no television. There was no wat pressure and the sink dripped all over the floor making the very slippery tiles dangerous. I left more exhausted than when I arrived. read more

I was there with my husband ( who is an older man ) there having appetizers and a drink I was working on my laptop and i glanced up and made casual eye contact with the bartender and smiled a natural friendly smile. Ever since that moment every time i looked up the guy, Kyle, was LEERING at me lasciviously as if my smile was an invitation EWWWWWWW - I was so uncomfortable after an hour or so that i left . He was staring at me EVERY single time i looked up. YUK ! ( i wanted to sit there for a couple hours working on my computer and determine if we should have a midweek vacation there sometime) Really was terrible the way he was staring at me . Not to mention how disrespectful to my husband. ill never ever go back. As i mentioned my husband is an attractive older man whom I adore and have been with for 6 years and Kyle was staring at me as if i was a hooker for sale. ( I'm a doctor ) - - - - As if a wealthy husband purchased me. In fact, my husband did not know anything about this until AFTER we left but he said to me as we walked out. " That's odd, the bartender said 'thanks guys' but did not even glance at me, he was totally fixated on you" Holy Tacos - it was THAT obvious and sickening. I am very familiar with men looking at me because of my looks and approaching me often - but this was downright CREEPY and let me say again I am not talking about an admiring look - Im talking about a perv , lascivious, leering, unpleasant look and feeling, . . . . actually scary. My skin crawls just thinking about it. i would not even expect this from a bartender at a nightclub ! I went there specifically ( and even with my husband ) for a peaceful place to work as he walked down to the pier. And instead of getting peace i get complete discomfort. Let me put it to you this way: If i was staying there i would have demanded my husband pay cash for the food and not charge to the room so this guy would not know our room number ! ! ! ! ! ! The food was ok. The ricotta and bread appetizer was great, but the salt in the paella was so strong that it was all I could taste. I considered sending it back, but the kitchen was already very slow because of a private party. My date thought his pasta was also so-so. The drinks were good, not great. I was surprised at the average quality considering the restaurant is part of the Leading Hotels of the World group. The view was beautiful, but the private party was was a staged engagement just to the side of us. All the guests showed up over the next hour - so half my view was the constant stream of guests and non-stop photos. Plus, it was hard to appreciate the zen of the view with all the squealing, FaceTiming friends, etc. (Not their fault, they should enjoy - but also sorry the restaurant didn't plan better co-mingling a special event and regular diners). read more

Easy to find and simply beautiful establishment. Valet parking only which was $10 and was added to the bill while dining. Menu has a few vegan options which was excellent. I order the avocado toast wasn't impressed thin slice of toast for $24 but the view is what you're paying for. I went alone so service wasn't expedited for me I had to wait 15 mins before my server came but with the view I wasn't upset. I was excited to book my first stay in Malibu and came across this hotel on a travel site. First of all the location is good enough. It's in walking distance of the pier and several restaurants including Nobu. The hotel is located directly on the water but when the tide is out you can hang out on the beach chairs. I want to stress that since it is highly dependent on the tide, don't expect to hang out on the hotel's beach anytime of the day. I tried a few times and was redirected to the beach past the pier since the tide was quite high. Service was great. The front desk and valet were all wonderful. However given the price I was expecting parking to be included. It was $30 something a night to park our car overnight. The amenities is where this place lost points for me. Although we were kindly offered bottled water by valet and front desk staff, there was no water except tap in the room. There is no gym or swimming pool on the grounds and the only place to explore outside of your room is the hotel/bar or the beach access when it is accessible. The rooms are smaller than expected, but I assume this is due to Malibu property values. We had an amazing view and the bed was comfy but I would have liked a bigger patio to hang out with lawn chairs rather than two upright chairs. The room had two tvs for some reason and no tub. The toto bidet toilets were nice and fancy enough to self flush. The toiletries were very nice and I liked the soaps offered and extras like electrolyte packets. They offer a coffee machine, kettle and small fridge in room. We had dinner once at the restaurant. It was alright. The lobster roll was interesting with fennel, fries were ok, cocktails were $17/ and I can recommend the spicy margarita. If you stay at the hotel they say there's no need to RSVP but if you want to sit with unobscured ocean view I would call ahead since I saw all those tables booked up. Overall it was an ok stay but I can't justify the price to come here again. My main issue was trying to contact the hotel after leaving behind clothing and wanting to ask for it to be mailed to me possibly but the hotel never answered their phone and the website's email form did not work. read more

My husband booked this room for Valentines weekend. We needed to be in Malibu for a birthday dinner so we made a weekend of it staying Friday & Saturday nights. My expectations were set very high due the high cost of our room per night. A Ritz Carlton or Four Seasons kind of high and I'm afraid I was let down. Upon arrival, a very kind young lady walked us up to our room and gave us a tour of the room. Truly not necessary but appreciated. My first impression of the room is that it reminded me of a SMALL cabin. For the price of the room, I expected a larger room. The bathroom is tight. A one person at a time to get ready size. It is a nice bathroom. My three complaints about the bathroom is the lack of counter space and water pressure, and the Toto toilet lid that wouldn't stay closed. Because there was little to no counter space I wanted to use the toilet lid to set things on but it kept opening every time you move in the bathroom and it would open dumping everything onto the floor. Otherwise there was a beautiful, spacious shower and that warm seated Toto toilet. I slept great on the bed. I didn't love the pillows but that's the case at most hotels so I don't hold that against them. There's a fire place which is romantic and I really wanted to enjoy it but the sofa sucks! The seat on the sofa is short so you have to sit upright to keep your bum on the sofa and because the back is also short you can't lean back for comfort. There is a mini bar in the room with many things to choose from. The refrigerator is also stocked. I brought our own cocktail and snack supplies so I can't comment on it but it would have been nice to use the fridge. One of my favorite things about this hotel is the hot water pot that made it possible for me to make a cup of tea that didn't taste like coffee. LOVED THAT! There is also a coffee maker...I believe a Nespresso. Don't quote me in the brand I don't drink coffee. Somehow we missed housekeeping. They didn't attend to our room at all during the day and we were in and out enough for them to do so. They did get to our room late Saturday afternoon after 4pm. When we returned to our room at 2am, we noticed that the towels had not been replaced. We called for more and they were quickly brought up but they were out of washcloths. Hmmm...... Everyone we came in contact with were very warm and treat their customers like you expect to be treated. The valet staff are more than kind each time we came in and out, offering us water each time we exited. The location of this hotel is absolutely phenomenal. The beach view from our room (307) was just gorgeous. For the $1000/night price tag I was left underwhelmed. The Customer service and the view is spectacular but the room itself is not worthy of the high price tag. read more

We ordered room service and ate out on our ocean front balcony for breakfast. The beach is wonderful, walking distance to the pier. I strongly recommend the restaurant the food was delicious. Also, there was a cool lantern in our room. Not sure if it was the hotels, or the last people who stayed here, but It was really cool. We dined with 4 people and they added 18% gratuity to my bill which they did not point out. We were having cocktails and socializing so I paid the bill quickly and added another 20% tip. When I got home and reviewed the receipt and called they never called me back or did anything about it. Adding gratuity for a party of 4 having drinks and light meals without telling them seems dishonest at such a high end place.
