This hotel is lovely, and it's in a prime location in Santa Monica. You're just a short walk away from lots of shopping / eateries, and of course the beach. The hotel is impeccably decorated. It's chic and classy - I could've posted up for hours in the lobby and people watched. Gene's coffee is also adorably decorated. Our room was amazing! We must've been upgraded to a suite, because our room was very large and even had a sectional couch. I stayed with my Mom and my daughter and there was plenty of room for all of us and our things. Beds are also super comfortable, and they even had turn down service at the end of the day. I'm deducting a star because the touch lighting system was horrible!! Touch lighting is my least favorite thing ever. It was impossible to figure out the lights. Maybe that's just a me thing, but I am always here for a traditional light switch. There isn't much outdoor space, but they do have a small 'pool' area with some chairs and a little hot tub. The hot tub was broken during our stay unfortunately. I had an excellent experience staying here, it was conveniently located in Santa Monica, it had 24/7 access to valet with in and out privileges, and hotel security had me feeling very comfortable here. The amenities were nice and I really liked the rooms, the shower had great pressure and the water got, and stayed hot. Also, I always love a robe and slippers, and the bed was the right firmness as well. The room even had a partial ocean view from the window, which let in plenty of natural light during the day. Everything looked clean and contemporary, and the room didn't feel cramped even with a desk and chair in there along with the bed. read more

We stayed here for a overnight stay in the area before an early flight from LAX. I wanted to be near the beach but with things like a fun rooftop bar or a pool and this spot had both. Check in was easy and so was check out- the space is renovated and trendy. The rooms are pretty small but the beds are comfy, with good pillows and updated light switches, etc to a more futuristic touch. The shower was nice and so were the products, but I was surprised by the two in one body wash and shampoo - usually a place of this caliber would have 3 separate items. Bell staff was helpful and we really loved the amenity of having a driver take you and pick you up within 3 miles - we used it a bunch in the short time we were there and the drivers were absolutely awesome. We did not use the pool or the gym but both looked small but nicely maintained. Our only bummers of the trip were that the coffee spot closed early on the Sunday randomly and I really wanted to have a matcha (advertised hours are until 6 but they were closed by 3). Also the front desk staff incorrectly told us we couldn't take an uber to your departure terminal at LAX but I googled it and saw it was not true. We did use their car service to the airport ($80 fee) because we wanted piece of mind but do note that at this time (May 2025) ubers can still take you TO the airport directly. read more

I had a great stay here - there are definitely some fantastic views to enjoy! However, do make sure to take a good look at room views before booking. I chose to pay a bit more in hopes that the Panoramic King would offer a bit more of a panorama. In reality, the bathroom has a nice view and then you walk into the bedroom which then has another, different nice view - but there is no cohesiveness in the view. The view in the bathroom looks out over some building and out to the ocean, where as the bedroom view is on the opposite side, overlooking the city and mountains. It was still beautiful but not cohesively panoramic - just window views in the bathroom and bedroom. The blinds were broken in the bathroom as well, so just something I had to deal with while trying to enjoy the views. But nevertheless, the views are stunning especially from the Penthouse Restaurant. The food on the other hand was just okay. However, if you're staying at the hotel it's so convenient making it easy to enjoy a meal or drinks throughout the day. They also have a cafe next to the lobby where I enjoyed the most delicious Honey Latte and bought a candle that was the same fragrance throughout the lobby (which always smelled so amazing!) The also have a complimentary ride service that will drive you within 3 miles (I think until 7pm?) I didn't get a chance to try it since the area is walkable and anywhere that I couldn't walk to was much farther away, but still - it's a nice service offering. Booked this hotel direct as Expedia and other sites had slightly higher prices. However I now realize they would have been a better deal. Per other reviews, between taxes and their $35/night resort fee (for what I'm not sure?) the direct price was higher. Like other reviews, I was a bit surprised to have over $80/night in taxes and fees. Nothing mentioned during booking or check in but I'm sure there was some fine print. The hotel is located on a quiet street one block from Ocean Ave and service was very good. Room was large with updated bath and bed was comfy with nice sheets. Nespresso machine, minibar (with prices much lower than bar upstairs!!) Downside is the building must be an old apartment converted to hotel. So air con had to work hard in room, and if you looked close some details were shabby (see ventilation system above check in desk). Penthouse restaurant on top floor is nice once for the sunset but mad expensive. Drinks are $19+ and wine was over the top. However the food was really good and decent portions. We didn't use any amenities like the pool which was basically in the back alley. There is also a coffee shop in the lobby but we never went down that hall for some reason. The Fairmont is across street and has a nice restaurant (Fig) and early open coffee shop. Worth a stop. I wouldn't return due to taxes and fees. A four hour dinner for a celebration turned into a nightmare. Couldn't get through it and out the door, people next to us also complaining . Staff was oblivious ruined the celebration. The Huntley is cool, beautifully designed, well located and with a very attentive staff. HOWEVER they add a $45 "resort fee" regardless of whether you use the murky hot tub and tiny saunas (accessed only by walking through the parking garage) Parking costs another $80 and is pretty much mandatory as it is a busy area. I think the spa fee should kick in when you actually visit the spa, or be included in the quoted room price. The views are gorgeous, north side gets you a view of beach, town and mountains. The room service breakfast is excellent. (Tres leches French toast amazing, ditto for bagel with lox.) King bed room was clean and lovely. Just someone please tell the boss that guests complain about the surprise $$$ and be up front about the extra mandatory fees. Again, the staff is attentive and positive. This is an admin or CEO issue. We won't be back and we won't recommend the Huntley to friends solely due to the above mentioned disappointments. read more

My teenage daughter and I had the best getaway here. Everyone was hospitable and lovely,,from the person who checked us in to the bellman who assisted with our luggage. We loved our dinner at the Penthouse where again, the service was excellent throughout and the food was delicious. Our room was chic and comfortable, with a great ocean view. The location was perfect, within walking distance of tons. In a town where the pecking order vibe can be strong, the Huntley experience was wonderful and you could tell it's a very well-run spot. Do not let any woman you know stay here alone!!! Human traffickers are camped out in the lobby looking for solo female travelers. Avoid at all costs. Zero stars! And the staff do not care about your safety whatsoever and know what's going on. I was approached by a very friendly, chatty 6 ft tall woman in the lobby with a shorter darker man. She kept inviting me to have a cigarette with her or to get some fresh air and keep chatting. She then escalated to inviting me to their room or to get food. It didn't strike me as odd until another gentleman pulled me aside and asked if they were my friends. I said no and he warned me to get away from them immediately. He said these folks were known entities and to be very cautious. This story could have ended very differently so be careful if you have to be at The Huntley in Santa Monica. Also these crappy 150 sq ft rooms had paper thin walls. You could hear every word said by people in the hallways and neighboring rooms. And the rooms have 1 inch gaps under the doors to the hallways so random people can talk to you while you poop. Response to Brendan the Manager: I spoke to 6 different employees about the pimp and prostitutes taking over 2 separate areas of your hotel. They did not care. And thank you for your suggestion of speaking with the authorities. That's a great idea! And describing the predators that you allow in your establishment is not the definition of profiling. read more

The view here from the bar is insanely good. This is a great spot for come for a drink. We live in town and bring people here to really get a chance to see Santa Monica. The service is fast. The first time here Service: The front desk staff was nice but had trouble finding our reservation in their system. The valet and bell hop were also great at providing great service and were so nice welcoming us to the hotel. Food: We ate at the hotel at the penthouse restaurant located on the top level of the hotel. The views of the beach and the city are great. It's a big space with a big bar. During the day, it's bright and light with plenty of sun coming through the windows. At night, it's dim lighting and accent lighting that makes it feel like a totally different place. The food is great and high-end. I have to say it was a joy tasting good quality food. The drinks were a little weak but not too bad. Atmosphere: The atmosphere is great throughout the hotel. The spaces are nicely decorated and well designed. They offer free golf carts to get around the city, and the gym is free for the first 4 hours. The other guests were great, and we had no issues. Location: It's located in Santa Monica, CA, near the beach Room: We got the Malibu suite, which was amazing, and it was big with a separate living room space. The bed was comfortable, and the closet was a walk-in, and the bathro was huge with a separate shower, toilet roo, and tub. The tub was missing the stopper, so we could use it, and the refrigerator wasn't getting cold, so we couldn't store things in it. The entry door is digital and allows you to use different lighting to determine your status. The furniture was really nice and the room was so nice aesthetically. The view was amazing with the ocean, mountains, and the city in your view. Price: It was on the high end. The Malibu Suite room was $1,000 for one night, and they charge $25 an hour for a late checkout. The restaurant was also pricey but worth it. And there is a separate fee for valet when you checkout. On the day of my wedding, I chose this place to celebrate with my family and friends. We ordered a few bottles of champagne to toast together. I asked the bartender to leave the bottles on ice at the counter with some glasses so I could pour for my guests myself. He refused, insisting that he needed to pour the drinks. He then deliberately poured larger servings than I wanted, clearly trying to make us finish the bottles faster so we would buy more. When I asked him to pour less champagne, he laughed and said, "Oh, you want to maximize the bottle," which felt disrespectful and inappropriate--especially on my wedding day, and while everyone was already spending money on drinks. My brother-in-law paid for a couple of bottles of champagne, closed the check, signed it, and left. About an hour later, the same bartender came to me and asked me to pay for those bottles, claiming the check had never been closed and suggesting I ask my brother-in-law for the money. At that point, I was extremely upset because I personally saw my brother-in-law close and sign the check. After speaking with the manager, the truth came out: the bartender had mistakenly closed a different check using my brother-in-law's card. When he realized his error, instead of admitting it, he tried to cover it up and make me pay. This caused unnecessary stress and wasted time on what should have been one of the happiest days of my life. In addition, we had called in advance to ask if we could bring our own cake and were clearly told yes, it would not be a problem. However, when the cake arrived, we were suddenly told that outside food was not allowed. This contradiction added even more frustration for me and my guests. Because of this experience, neither I nor my guests will ever return to this place, no matter how nice the location is, unless that bartender is no longer working there. His behavior was unprofessional and disrespectful, and he should be focused on pleasing customers--not creating conflict. The manager was polite and cordial, but he should have addressed his employee's mistake directly instead of involving me during my wedding celebration. read more

Both ladies recognized us, made us feel at home and welcomed us back with open arms. Because of them, they make Huntley Hotel feel like my home away from home. My friends and I enjoyed our visit and vowed to revisit Huntley and Penhouse. A few more details I thinks is important to add. When I called the very first time to "negotiate" the price for my room. I kept trying to end the call but the lovely gal that was "selling" me offering two Complimentary breakfast's included each morning, this actually sealed the deal. I always stay at properties that offer this. We've done it all thru Europe and beyond. To notice the 2 separate charges for the Penthouse was annoying. When I'm having such a great visit with my daughter I don't want drama of any kind. At this point as I was begging for forgiveness I need to mention this. The charges were $81.74 & $13.82. That's my tip money! The house angels, the barmen, hostesses, the bellhops and the best front desk staff took good care of me and I made sure they were well compensated for their hard work. The strike definitely hit a cord because Ive worked in the food/bev industry my entire teens and 20's. I get it! Alsa this is the end of my short story about my interaction with the Huntley. Good hotel, fairly priced and great convenient location as I was visiting for work, down the street. I'll likely stay again, however, check in and out took a while as they were understaffed. Everyone I interacted with was incredibly friendly except a woman who was pretty dismissive about WiFi experience I was having. For what it's worth, the issues subsided by the time I woke the following day. Also, the advertised house car was unusable as I wanted to check out and grab a short ride to work at 8am but the service doesn't start til 11am I guess. read more

We had stayed at the Huntley hotel for 3 nights. I thought the rooms were decent and well-lit; however, I was not satisfied with the customer service. First, this hotel requires you to use their parking valet. There was one night where I left my bag in the car after they took my cars. I informed the parking attendant, who then asked me to walk down 2-3 floors to go get my bag myself. Also, for some reason, the parking attendant(s) always helped me open my car door, but not my wife, after I gave them a substantial tip. read more

We stayed for a week and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The beds were comfy and the rooms were clean and spacious. Our room came with a sofa bed. My little one loved having his own bed. He also enjoyed a daily trip to the treasure chest. The treasure chest was filled with little toys that he enjoyed rummaging through. The best part of staying at the hotel is the complimentary ride service. Jorge made our trip. He drove us to and from the pier. He took us to the movies. We walked around and then when we were finished adventuring, he picked us up again. He gave us loads of recommendations for places to see and things to do. Huntley hotel is only a couple blocks away from Santa Monica beach! However, you can tell that this hotel has aged because the toilet was broken during our stay, and the phones were not working! The parking situation is not ideal or you will have to pay valet! However, the beds are a super comfortable, and they definitely have a clean aesthetic to make up for the older building. There is a bar/restaurant upstairs! And it is open to non-guest. I had the expectation that we would go to a pool, but they said that there was a Jacuzzi next to the valet. I usually stay at the Proper Hotel in when visiting Santa Monica but wanted to try out a different hotel. We booked one night at the Huntley. The valet, front desk staff were all amazing but my only complaint/concern was the cleanliness of the hotel. When tucking ourselves in bed, we found some brown stains on our bedding which was disgusting. We immediately called for the room service which they came up promptly and switched it out. read more

Pretty unimpressed with our last stay... Our door did NOT reach the bottom of the floor, meaning there was a huge gap between the bottom of the door and the floor. It's almost as if the entire 6th level was flooded because it's so uneven. Also, the beds were extremely uncomfortable. My friend was in town for 5 days visiting from Atlanta. I was luck to join him. FIRST of all...the room was spacious and immaculate. The bed (King) was amazing. All the shower stuff was high end. THE tub was deep and comfortable for 2. We had a corner room so we had a view of the beach. Front desk were so helpful and friendly. Our stay included free bike rentals for 4hrs. The Penthouse Restaurant on the top floor was SOOOO beautiful and well decorated. The atmosphere was romantic and cozy. FOOd was out of this world. Couldn't have asked for a better time than his last night here. And the lobby smelt SOOOOOO GOOD. It smells like plumeria. We'll worth the money at this luxury hotel. We've used this hotel in the past as we have employees come in town often for work and it's close. Unfortunately, they have chosen to add resort fees to their billing, which basically doubles the cost you're seeing online or even when you book with points. These are added to your bill afterwards and are extremely high for a hotel that has no amenities other than a view! We will not be using this hotel ever again read more

Nice hotel. Although the basic structure has been here since 1962, you would think it was built in the last 10 or 15 years. Sure if you know a little about construction, you'd realize that the building is not new. None the matter, every visible surface has been changed and modernized. Bathrooms look like designer bathrooms in million dollar homes. Rooms are American size. Quite refreshing g coming from our trip in Europe three months ago. The roof top Penthouse (100% indoors) is a restaurant with a marvelous view. (Make a reservation well in advance.) I'm writing this in August of 2023. for those who have had problems with homeless in Santa Monica, those problems have moved to other neighborhoods as the Democrats finally realized that tourism dried up because of these problems. 3rd street Promenade, a block away has likewise been sanitized. I still wouldn't roam in dark alleys at night alone and remember to not keep ANY ITEMS in your car in view. Note to front desk team : you need more people for check ins the lobby is too small to hold 40 people with their luggage. read more

I even tried the room service and though expensive, it was worth every penny. Delivered to the room hot and delicious. Everything was very well seasoned and flavorful. The hotel is in a very convenient location to the PCH, the promenade, and Main St. Didn't get a chance to check out the restaurant at the top or the pool area but I'll definitely be staying here again when I'm back in LA. The only drawback about my room was there was some noise above me from what sounded like a service closet or supply room. I'll be asking for their quietest room next time. read more

Good modern hotel in a great location. It's actually the most modern hotel I have ever stayed in which is saying a lot. The rooms are very handsome, if I may say so. They have status lights for DND, clean, and cleaned which is really cool. The light fixtures and plugs are all modern too. There was a slight smell of mold throughout but it wasn't that bad. Room service was speedy and friendly. The valets were very attentive and friendly as well. We have stayed in the Fairmont around the corner a few times and each have their pros and cons.
