Dear Shutters on the Beach Team,…read more I wanted to take a moment to sincerely thank you for such a beautiful and memorable experience during our recent stay.especially Cyndi Enriquez who helped us . From the moment we checked in, I was impressed. One of your team members, Julie, remembered my last name and greeted me so warmly--it immediately made us feel welcomed and valued. The ambiance throughout the hotel was wonderfully quiet and calm, which made a huge difference from our first visit. It truly felt like a peaceful escape. Our room was an incredible surprise. The ocean view was breathtaking--we ended up spending the entire afternoon and morning out on the balcony, simply enjoying the scenery and the serenity. Thank you as well for the thoughtful surprise birthday cake. That gesture meant so much and made the stay even more special. Overall, it was an incredible experience. We truly appreciate how you listened to us and went above and beyond to create an even better, unforgettable stay. We will absolutely be coming back. 10 stars! Warm regards, Pamela Madden

Alas, I fear my memory will fade before I have time to memorialize a perfect tribute. From Mikey and Willem to Mike, Andrew, Jason and Zach at the door, to Carol, Rosanna, Myles, Anthony, Beatrice at the front desk, Dorshab, Jimmy, Kevin, Liz G., Mary and Jesse in dining, Maria and Ana in housekeeping, Scott, Gabriel, Julie, Cyndi - quite sincerely every single Shutters employee who crossed my path during a 6 month residency made my life better for having known them. I am eternally grateful for the care and concern extended by this hotel to our community as it offered haven to Palisades refugees - along with our dogs, cats, birds, snakes, fish - piled into their beautiful lobby that had finished a renovation a couple weeks prior. The hotel group was generous, and the employees from every department were of the highest caliber. Whoever did the lion share of the hiring for the staff present between January-June 2025 deserves an award. In 6 months time, I did not directly or indirectly encounter a single issue with staff. Rooms were perfectly appointed with luxurious bathtubs and great views. Of the 5 rooms I stayed in, Room 734 was my all around favorite. If that's not in the budget, Room 308 is a runner up. For those looking for a weekend away, I recommend you ask for a room on the 7th, then 6th, then 5th, then 4th floor...you get my point. Rooms from -30-38 with direct ocean views are also the quietest as they're nestled in the center of the hotel. Noise can be an issue on the 3rd floor, at least when staying for months. probably won't bother anyone over a weekend. During a time of great chaos and unprecedented stress, managing the remediation of seniors with dementia, assisting 6 family members who lost homes, Shutters provided me a safe haven. For the rest of my life, I shall be grateful for the kindness of ownership, management, and boots on the ground. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kind compassion. I'm including a sketch gifted by the magnificent Carol (@caroldraws___ on IG) of the Shutters house poms. My girls miss their hotel bestie, Cyndi, every day. It's too hard for me to go back as I know I'll want to stay. I miss them all very much.

There's a parking garage under the building, I believe it was $45 additional to park every day. There's a glass water jar in the room but it costs $6. There's an elevator here and wide hallways. Nice bathrobes and long balconies. There's alcohol in the fridge and snacks you can pay for. I didn't really like the shower that much but it was alright. I've been to a lot of hotels with this style. Water pressure was probably a 6/10. Turning the knob for the initial morning shower sucks cause it's cold and you get hit with the cold water before lol. Other than that, this location is prime. Very specious in the building and hallways. Room was standard spacious and it had vaulted ceilings.

I needed a place that could comfortably accommodate my dad, my dog, and me while allowing me to shuttle back and forth to the hospital easily. The Ambrose ended up being just about a two-minute drive from the medical center, which made an enormous difference. When my mom had surgery there a few years ago, I stayed closer to the ocean. Even though it was only about a mile and a half away, the traffic made it take 15 minutes each way to get to the hospital. This time, being so close made everything so much easier during a stressful few days when I was going back and forth constantly. The property itself was clean, quiet, and very comfortable. It was also incredibly convenient to have Tartine right across the street for coffee, breakfast, and quick refreshments. There are also plenty of nearby shops, restaurants, grocery stores, and even specialty markets like Erewhon within minutes. Most importantly, the hotel was very accommodating for my dog Grace, which was essential for our stay. All around, it was a wonderful experience, and I would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it--especially for anyone who needs to be close to UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center.

The housekeeping staff was fantastic too. The gentleman who was responsible for our room always asked if we needed anything and if he could provide any assistance in making our stay even better. We stayed in a 1 bedroom suite. The great thing about the suite setup is that the living room with a pull out couch is separated by a door to the bedroom; you could watch TV in one room and not bother the people in the other room. The TVs in each room were oversized and there was a decent sized mini fridge (Target and Trader Joes are just down the street - hello wine and beer!) The walls were thick, as was the main door and hotel noise and street noise was minimal. They have a pool on the 3rd floor that doubles as the covered drop off/entrance area and it was very nice. The breakfast buffet was solid (include made to order eggs), but it was too expensive (approx. $33 per person-tip included.) The best part about our stay were the pillows. Down pillows! The most comfortable pillows I have ever slept on! The beds were solid too. What else? You're a couple of blocks from the Santa Monica Pier and Beach. You're within an 8 minute walk to McDonald's for breakfast (cheaper than the hotel buffet!) and your about a 10 minute walk to the 3rd St Promenade. Our daughter absolutely loved her first trip to the beach and this Hilton property and its staff had a lot to do with that! *Tip 1* Head to Trader Joes to stock up on booze for your room fridge. *Tip 2* They don't have a microwave on property to reheat leftovers or snacks. Plan accordingly.

We were upgraded to a lanai suite and found the room to be perfectly nice. The carpeting looked and felt clean, the bedding was very nice. We had dinner off property but enjoyed spending our Diamond credit for breakfast in the morning. Again, excellent service and we really enjoyed our meal. Valet parking is the only hotel parking and at $70 a night I wasn't going to do that. Across the street is a lot of metered parking that is charged only 5 hours at a time from 9am to 6pm. Very easy to park along the street - either side. We usually spend our reward nights at WA Beverly Hills (and that probably won't change) but we genuinely did enjoy our quick night at the Oceana.

The Valet greets you upon arrive but I noticed a few things that were troublesome. If you cannot walk stairs this property my not be right for you. The lobby is on the second floor accessible by stairs. Some rooms seem to only be reachable by stairs and they only have two rooms with two beds unless you want a king bed and a pullout couch. Most all the rooms have some type of balcony and some have a rope swing to sit on eventhough it is more decorative than functional. The lobby area is warm and welcoming and the pool area is simply fabulous. They make it known that the pool water is always above 82 degrees. I loved that they provided complimentary coffee by the pool in the morning and then throughout the day they have juices and cold water. On the 3rd floor there is a great sitting area with wonderful views of the coastline and beach. On the day of my wedding, I chose this place to celebrate with my family and friends. We ordered a…read morefew bottles of champagne to toast together. I asked the bartender to leave the bottles on ice at the counter with some glasses so I could pour for my guests myself. He refused, insisting that he needed to pour the drinks. He then deliberately poured larger servings than I wanted, clearly trying to make us finish the bottles faster so we would buy more. When I asked him to pour less champagne, he laughed and said, "Oh, you want to maximize the bottle," which felt disrespectful and inappropriate--especially on my wedding day, and while everyone was already spending money on drinks. My brother-in-law paid for a couple of bottles of champagne, closed the check, signed it, and left. About an hour later, the same bartender came to me and asked me to pay for those bottles, claiming the check had never been closed and suggesting I ask my brother-in-law for the money. At that point, I was extremely upset because I personally saw my brother-in-law close and sign the check. After speaking with the manager, the truth came out: the bartender had mistakenly closed a different check using my brother-in-law's card. When he realized his error, instead of admitting it, he tried to cover it up and make me pay. This caused unnecessary stress and wasted time on what should have been one of the happiest days of my life. In addition, we had called in advance to ask if we could bring our own cake and were clearly told yes, it would not be a problem. However, when the cake arrived, we were suddenly told that outside food was not allowed. This contradiction added even more frustration for me and my guests. Because of this experience, neither I nor my guests will ever return to this place, no matter how nice the location is, unless that bartender is no longer working there. His behavior was unprofessional and disrespectful, and he should be focused on pleasing customers--not creating conflict. The manager was polite and cordial, but he should have addressed his employee's mistake directly instead of involving me during my wedding celebration.

One person in our group let out a single curse word during a casual conversation, not directed at staff, not aggressive, just a word, and somehow that was enough for the staff to refuse service to our entire group. No warning, no attempt to address it politely, just a flat-out refusal. Completely over the top and unprofessional. What made it worse? They then turned around and selectively served ONE person from our group, which made zero sense given they had just "refused service" to all of us. To add insult to injury, they ended up charging her for multiple items she never even received. So let me get this straight, you refuse service over something minor and then proceed to overcharge a guest? That's not just bad service, that's ridiculous. Between the inconsistency, the attitude, and the billing issues, this place clearly has no idea how to treat customers. Plenty of better spots out there, save yourself the frustration and go anywhere else.
