I've been going to Mali Thai since January this year and they are amazing! Na and Nana are both really good, and know how to massage the stress out of your body. Some of the best massages I've ever gotten in LA. Highly recommend this little nook of a place - but call ahead to make sure you get someone good. I called to get a last minute appointment and I have never been here. The woman told me the price was $65. I mentioned I would pay by credit card and could I put tip on card as well and she said yes. When I got there, she suddenly points to the credit card prices ..now the 1 hour massage is $68 for credit card. She says, oh you can go next door to the smoke shop to get cash. Rough around the edges but overall a solid service. I made a same day 3:30pm appt. I arrived a bit early. No one was at the front desk. I called their phone to see if anyone would come out. Someone did. They had me wait about 20 minutes before they took me back. My massage started at 3:45. Not a huge issue, but just be wary that scheduling may not be punctual. It's located in a strip mall with shared parking. There are signs that say it is a 30 minute limit, which was a bit concerning. But the staff said it's fine to stay beyond 30 minutes. I got the 60 min Thai combo massage. It was fantastic. The massage therapist knew when to add more pressure and when to ease up. Of course it was a bit painful at times, but that's why I got the Thai massage. They get into those knots and tightness with no mercy. After it was over I felt so much better. I tipped cash, which they seem prefer over tipping with credit card. They speak multiple languages, so their English is a bit broken, but they can communicate well enough. The receptionist asked if I wanted to pay $12 more for "more pressure." I was going to, until another customer told me not to because the masseuse were really strong, and you can basically tell them to go harder. So I didn't pay for "more pressure" and went into my room. I was waiting for my massage when the receptionist walked in. She was my masseuse lol. So as you can imagine, she did my massage very lightly. When she was using her hands there was barely any pressure. For the rest of the massage, she used her feet. I've had massages where I've been stepped on, but I haven't had a massage where they would step on me for a whole 25min out of the 60min massage. She stepped on me to massage my butt/legs (which is pretty standard), back, and then she stepped on each arm and hand. I've never gotten a hand massage done with foot. She also finished 10 min short. I have been to mali in the past and loved it. Todays experience was awful. The old lady that checked me in was rude. I got Cindy as my masseuse - she was sweet and has strong hands but lacked technique. She made me turn so many times that at one time I was completely entangled in the sheets. The room was icy cold with the AC running at full blast and stayed that way even after I complained that I was cold. The oil she used was cold because the microwave was not working. Oh after the cold room and the cold oil she rubbed me off with a cold wet towel. Finally I had the first room as you enter so could hear noise and a radio from the front. Just finished a 30 min massage for $48 and it was totally not worth it. The massage was literally nothing, no pressure, no pressure point targeting, no pain relief, no feeling of relaxation at all. Masseuse starts with a 15 min BS "massage" over a sheet, which is literally her just putting her palms on arbitrary areas of your back. She doesn't use oil until I told her, her oil massage skills were pathetic, feels like I'm a car getting waxed. I ask for more pressure and she says wait, I'm just marking you up... lady only have 10 minutes left by this time. She can tell I'm annoyed, so offers to walk on the back which was more "nothing" like no targeting of certain muscles. It's literally just her walking on my back and that's it. It's not like she was a bad person or anything but the service was just terrible. Left me beyond speechless. Literally a waste of time and money... yes, I spoke to the front desk women after and that's it's own thing. But I will certainly be disputing the transaction in my CC. Doesn't need to be said, but definitely not coming back here again. Other things to note: a women customer was in the room next to me and she was annoyed with them because they had her in the room waiting for 10+ minutes for a massage. I wanted to do 90 minutes and by the 45 minute mark I was so irritated with the fact it wasn't a massage it was just someone rubbing oil on my body. I have always enjoyed massages at Mali Thai. My experience last week was pretty terrible. I didn't appreciate being harassed for a $15 tip and told I needed to pay it. I tipped $10, and then was told, "Everything is expensive now. That's why the tip is $15" Wonderful. Then raise your prices? Don't demand I tip $15, ESPECIALLY when you're making me pay for the massage and tip before I even get the massage. I tip based on the service, not a sign saying what I "should" tip. I have gotten probably like ten deep tissue massages here and it's always fantastic no matter who my masseuse is. Great reasonable prices, combo package specials and it's always easy to get an appointment a reasonable amount of time beforehand (or even same day)! The parking lot isn't always the most convenient but there's lots of street parking. The masseuses wear masks. The rooms have a curtain door but open top area so you can hear neighboring whispers but it's not ever a problem. Highly recommended. read more

Meh...my experience was exactly that. Pricing is very high compared to others in the area. I paid a little more $65 for deep tissue due to a current pinched nerve. When the woman came to the room she asked what massage I wanted "combo". I thought I took care of that at the front desk? The masseuse was a very nice older woman, but didn't seem to have much of a technique at all. I felt more like I was being randomly mushed like mashed potatoes than anything. "Deep tissue" was explained to me as "very hard" to work out muscle issues. This is not at all what I got. The pressure was a light-medium at best. I guess it was a sign that others might not have been thrilled about their experience since they make you pay first. This also is unfortunate since if paying by credit, you must tip first also. They also attach a $2 for CC. The place seems clean, but the towels you put your face into are very rough and smell highly of chemicals from washing. $75 for a less than a mediocre experience, no thanks. Location is easy to find, and the ambiance upon walking in was good. I was able to have my appointment immediately when walking in, and the massage was of good quality. One star less because it is pricier, but next time I come, I am going to get the afternoon deal where it is $45. The masseuse wasn't talkative, which I liked. I felt like my pain points were addressed. Also, they did not do my pet peeve which is when they fan me with a towel, since that once got me sick.
