An employee parks right next to me at 0627 and goes inside. Lights come on. I give her a minute and try the doors at like 0635. Doors locked. I stand out for a bit (20 degree weather) but no one comes to the door. I tried calling both phone numbers listed for the facility but they say the clinic is closed until 0700. I tried the doors a 3rd time at 0642 and finally doors open. The woman at the front (who had parked next to me) was immediately hostile. She says 'the doors are hard to open and just look locked' and 'no one called'. (I tested the doors on the way out, and not only were they easy to open, but automated, so she lied about them being unlocked.) She acknowledges that she saw me standing outside but didn't come to the door. Absolutely rude the rest of check in. If I didn't very much need the MRI I would have left. I felt vulnerable and anxious the rest of the visit, even though the tech was great.

I did not have too much time to find a caregiver, so I called a few places that happened to be at the top of the list when I searched for "Home Health Care." I like to think of it as Home Health One found me instead of the other way around. They were the 3rd call I made. The first 2 companies had recordings and I was on hold most of the time. When I finally did speak to someone, you could tell they were trying to speed up the process more-so than I was, so I felt overwhelmed and pressured and hung up. When I finally got to Home Health One, I was able to speak to a real human right off the bat. She answered every one of my questions thoroughly, was extremely patient with me being a newbie to the process, and assured me my dad would be in good hands. That, she was absolutely right about. A nurse was in my living room with my dad the next day. Assessed him and even made him smile, which I haven't seen in a while... Making an appointment was easy, and I was contacted via email prior to the appointment about the results. I emailed a copy, which I ended up seeing in my chart on the day of my appointment. Dr. Lakhani was very personable and down-to-earth, but also very professional and extremely thorough. She answered all of my questions, even drawing out diagrams and taking notes for me! She ordered blood work and personally called me back with the results. I know I'm not her typical patient, but I felt attended to and like my questions and concerns mattered. I very highly recommend her!

Despite being told otherwise by the insurance company and the doctor's office, OBSC insists that the parents are on the hook for money they are not. They flat out do not care, because they know that parents will travel across the country for this treatment, and if they have to get more than one treatment, OBSC can hold off the scheduling of future treatments over the parents' heads until the Center has properly shaken down the parents. Even after being told by the insurance company in no uncertain terms that OBSC is wrong for doing so. It's shameful. Or, as they told us this week, "it's a business."

I rescheduled 2 weeks later which should have been more than enough time. The morning of the second appointment, they called to cancel again because they still didn't have authorization. I called my insurance company to check on this. Molecular Imaging never called for authorization! Not even once. They also don't seem to know basic manners in terms of addressing patients using formal titles and last names, just assuming an informal first name use, and raising their voices to talk to anyone middle aged or older as if assuming dementia. I understand that it's hard to keep staff on hand, and no one has time to train front-end workers in civility and proper manners, the quality of the screening is what is truly important.

One of the reasons I looked forward to my visit was because he did his residency at my alma mater Northwestern University and I feel confident I'm in good hands. One of his many specialties is sports medicine and musculoskeletal system injuries. My fingers are crossed that he can get me on my feet again so I can toss my stupid Walker in a dumpster, travel again, and get my life back. He ordered an MRI of my left hip so he can assess the severity of the labrum tear. The tear is very painful and debilitating to say the least. It's kept me from traveling, visiting restaurants and museums, and enjoying my life. The staff at this facility were welcoming and helpful. The place was packed and bustling with activities. Despite this, I only waited 10 minutes before hobbling to the exam room. The MRI will take place on 10/3; I will return to Dr. V's office on 10/11 for the verdict: arthroscopic surgery or a hip replacement. My fingers are crossed that it's an arthroscopy. At the time of check in, the lady at the desk said it would be "a wait".....later she started defining how long it would be for others saying "30 mins" or "40 mins" but these folks were after me - so I thought for sure it cannot be that long for me. Wrong I was - 1 hour time wasted. The front desk ladies say "we can't do anything" or "we are just the messengers" - I understand that however, you are also the problem - identify the problem of long waits....raise it up - do something about it. The real problem is people who find this acceptable and just lift their arms up and say "sorry can't do anything". Change can always happen. Improvements can always happen.
