It was with him that I went to lunch a few days ago. We arrived just after noon on a Saturday and we're surprised to be the only patrons! We are seated, quickly given menus, water, and allowed adequate time to review the menu. Our server was the son of the proprietor and he was such a delight! You could tell how proud he is of his Lebanese heritage and regaled up with a few stories of Houda, his grandmother and the restaurant's namesake. In addition he helped guide some of our dining choices and we were not disappointed! Houda's serves up tasty, flavourful, and generous portions. We had so much food left over that we had another meal the next day!

The food wasn't too warm when it arrived at our table... Was really yummy though. The zaartar bread was to die for and the lahm (lamb on a stick) was yummmmm! Would have been a 5/5 if the food was hot! Great food tho would come back (hopefully next time the food comes out hot!) The atmosphere was nice too, they had Lebanese music playing in the background and it seemed like an environment that would be child friendly. Nice and quiet too so you can have a conversation without having to yell.

The coffee is consistently amazing, rich, creamy, strong but never bitter. One of my favourite baristas, Fred makes these wonderful creations. He is also great to chat to, flirtacious, friendly and very efficient. He often has my coffee ready by the time I have ordered. Another great thing about Esca is its location. As you order your coffee you can look through the restaurant to the sea, which is breathtakingly beautiful. Then, if you look to your left you have a view of Marina and all the luxury boats. Sitting outside is glorious on a sunny day. Esca also does my favourite breakfast in Adelaide: goats cheese and field mushroom omelette served with rocket salad - absolutely delicious! Wonderful staff, wonderful food and the best coffee in Adelaide ( Yes I said It!)

*The best steak (beef fillet) I have ever had the pleasure of devouring.*…read more I have been to Esca on the Marina for dinner about 5 times now, and I just absolutely love it. I have taken my parents there when they are visiting twice now and they have been impressed by the quality of the food and the beautiful setting. This fancy restaurant looks out over the ocean and if you go at the right time, you can watch the sun setting, which looks amazing... The first I went I was with a bachelorette party and the staff were very accommodating and attentive. I got an eggplant and tomato based dish and I wish I could remember what it was called because I would recommend it to you, yes you, reading my review, but you will have to settle for me saying "ORDER THE FANCY BAKED EGGPLANT TOMATOEY DISH, IT IS AMAZING". On another occaision, I ordered the arancini balls for entree and the beef fillet with polenta and onion jus for main. Both dishes quickly became my favourites as well! The arancini balls are just balls of cheesy delicious served with a napoletana sauce - errr what's not to love? The beef fillet was ordered to be medium rare, a little rarer is fine, and it was served to that request perfectly. The most tender steak I have had, hands down. The little cube of polenta was a perfect accompaniment, I just wish I had a little bit more. One of the times I went with my parents and partner, we had a very snobby waitress looking after us who did not like the fact we hadn't made a reservation (it was a Tuesday night, people!) which kinda ruined the experience but the food was still delicious. Who knows, the girl might have been having a horrible day/night and took it out on us! Since then however, we have had very polite and cheery waiters/waitressers who act as though nothing is too much trouble. They have a great selection of wines - my favourite was a d'arenberg shiraz from McLaren Vale and it went perfectly with the beef fillet. I will have to try Esca out for breakfast soon!

My Mother and I were in the neighbourhood and needed a feed. Yelp of course lead me to this fine family restaurant just off Goodwood road. Easily spotted with colourful signage on the road. Sumac staff are quiet, but are really friendly and welcoming. They are very happy to walk you through the menu if you are unsure of what items are. Some of them I had not heard of before. My Mum and I love to sample everything, and there isn't really much we don't like. So we of course went for the Shashlik Platter. It comes with three different styles of Shashlik, hummus, baba ganoush, home-made pickles, tabouli, salad with crispy pita, spiced rice and garlic sauce. All of that for $24.90! So awesome! We actually thought it would be smaller, so we ordered a plate of falafels as well. And yes, we definitely had stuff to take home. My fave on the platter was the hummus, pickles & chicken shashlik. All very flavoursome and well spiced. Wow, that garlic sauce is really intense, but also amazing on the pita bread. The falafels were fresh, but not as fluffy as I would have liked. They were full of fresh herbs though, so that made up for that! A huge menu to choose from, so be prepared to take a while to decide. You will really love this place!

But, I guess the outside of the store never really tickled my fancy. It is definitely not flash looking inside or out. There are no fancy tables, crockery or cultery. This is just good food served straight up! Lawash Bakery is serving up some really decent Lebanese food. If you love grilled meats, bread and flavour, well you have come to the right place. There are a few vego items to choose from, but I think this is more of a meat eating destination. There are a lot of options for you to choose from. Many different styles of grill, bread and accompaniments. You can order large platters for the table to share as well. I went for the mixed grill, that way I get to try a couple of different styles. It was great! Full of flavour, spices, slightly salty and smoky. Everything you want in a kebab. It was served on some really fresh pita and a side of lettuce, tomato and onion. That way you can wrap it up if you like. There was a whole lot of garlic in that meat and sauce too. So, maybe bring some mints to freshen up afterwards. I really liked the service and value here. I might have liked a few choices of sauces to go with my meat. But, it was cooked well and tasted brilliant. This is the type of place you want to go to fill up before a night on the town. Note, if you need to go to the loo, the bathroom around the back of the shop. But, be warned, it is really ewwww...

There were 7 people in our group, and there were 8 mains on the menu, so we pretty much ordered one of everything. And all of it was DELICIOUS! My personal favorites were the rose syrup drink that I had that tasted like liquid turkish delight, the eggplant dish (eggplants in an aromatic tomato sauce) and the lamb (melt in your mouth aromatically spiced lamb) Seriously, if you are looking for somewhere new to try, give this place a go. They have a BYO licence (so you can bring your own wine) and the service was EXCELLENT!! We had drinks, and LOTS of food, and some corkage and we shared a dessert and all up when we split the bill it worked out to $37 each. Very reasonable for the amount of food that we had and the quality of the food and the service. This place is a MUST try!!
