Wow! So many great things i can say about Maida!!! I reached out to Maida to see if she can do my makeup for a friend's wedding 2 days ago. Maida was quick to respond and i was SO fortunate she was available! I booked her right away because i know she gets booked fast! Maida was super sweet from beginning to end. She was very accomodating and made arrangements for me as i had to be ready super early in the morning! During our session she made sure i'd be all glammed up and ready to go! Just had my wedding a week ago, and Maida did mine and 4 of my bridesmaids. First of all, our trial (OBVIOUSLY) did great, because I booked her for my wedding. I do my makeup everyday, so I'm super picky about the way I like it, and the trial went so well, it just sealed the deal. The wedding day, she did all the BM's first, and they would not shut up about how much they liked it (which is a very good thing). Maida makes it look SO easy. By the time it got to my turn, there was a lot going on with the videographers and photographers around me. She didn't have to, but she kept me calm and checking if I was okay. She even paused every so often to make sure I sipped my champagne to calm my nerves (that was awesome). It's the little things that make a difference. My makeup was great, I must've cried happy tears all night, and it held up pretty darn good. Once I get my photos from the photographer I'll post some. Long story short, book her! I had some other makeup artists in mind for my pre-wedding photoshoot, but then I came across Maida here on Yelp - and I'm so glad that I did! Not only did I receive special attention from her the whole duration of the makeup session, but it was reasonably priced as well! From the moment I stepped in the door to the time that I left her studio, she was nothing but friendly, sweet, and accommodating. We also worked with her hairstylist, Jessica, and I have to say together they were very entertaining throughout the session. Just like previous reviewers has mentioned, she is very detailed oriented and makes sure that you like the color of the eyeshadows, eyelashes, lip color etc, that she picks for you. I loved also how she packs a small touch-up kit to take away with me before I left (although I was so busy I didn't get a chance to use most of it!) She was very accomodating and understanding and knew exactly what I wanted. She even went out of her way to help ease my nerves by trying to minimize the chaos around me. Everybody loved the way my make up was and it stayed on all day!!!! She even gave me a small touch up kit just in case but i didn't have to use it at all. What was even better was that she knew exactly what to do with my mom (who is not used to wearing make up) and made her look absolutely beautiful. I'm very picky about heavy makeup. I always want to look natural and Maida does an excellent job pulling off. I have messed up eye brows which Maida managed to smooth out, chinky small eyes she was able to add eyelids, big fat nose she was able to contour to make it look narrow and high. How does she do it?!!! She made comment about my big fat JayZ looking lips and asked me how many chapsticks I use a day LOL...she is really cool, nice and funny. I'm way overdo with this review (as with many I haven't done yet), but I want to share the wealth with my fellow reviewers. Makeup by Maida is superb!! My experience was a while back, so I'm sure her skills are even more top notch! PROS: -Foundation/Base- She color-blended foundation to exactly match my skin tone. Some artists just pick out a color from their collection that matches you best. Sometimes that works, but other times you're left with a different color face and neck. -Contouring- She does some magic with natural-looking contouring application! -Eyebrows- They matched! Not only did she shade in my eyebrows using their natural shape, she also made them look even. I have one eyebrow that's slightly higher than the other with a little difference in arch, but she shaded in my other eyebrow to match the other side. Some artists just shade in your eyebrows along their natural shape and that's it - even if they don't look the same on both sides. -Lips- My lips were dry so she applied a moisturizer to smooth them out. She has various colors to choose from or she could custom blend a color for you. We tried multiple color blends until I found one I liked that complemented my overall look. She also packed extra lip color in a small bag so I could touch-up throughout the day! -Lashes- If you want to use false lashes, she has a variety of looks to choose from. She also helps curl your natural lashes. Some artists don't curl your natural lashes and they stick straight out through your falsies. -Blush- I love blush! She tastefully packs on blush for me, but she doesn't cross the line where I would look like a clown. -Coverup- I had a zit on the day of my wedding!! It was a huge one on my cheek, but she did some amazing coverup that hid the zit while not making it look more obvious. It looked naturally hidden! Whew!! -Consistency- Maida and her assistant are on the same page. They both worked on my bridesmaids but my bridesmaids looked like their makeup was done by one person. One bridesmaid didn't look like her makeup was more dramatic or too subtle compared to the rest. -Communication- I can easily contact her by phone/text/email anytime and get a good response time too. Very important especially when a bride has many things to worry about than waiting long to reach vendors/services. -Promptness- Maida and her assistant showed up on time on the day of our wedding - at 5am! We had a big bridal party and an early day; hence the 5am start time. I barely slept for an hour, quickly rolled out of bed and rushed from our hotel room to our bridal suite, and there I saw Maida and her assistant with all their makeup gear. There was another wedding at the same hotel so it was hard to find parking and we were on multiple floors up, but Maida and her assistant were still on time. A big plus! Schedule of events on wedding day don't always run on time and it's worse if your vendors/services are running late too! Not an issue with Maida. CONS: She could take a long time applying makeup, but that's because she's a perfectionist!! She's very meticulous with her work and she personalizes her work with your facial features, but if there's ever a time constraint, just simply tell her beforehand (or during) and she'll make sure to have your look completed on time. Some artists do a standard look and you sometimes turn out looking like any other generic face (even if you tell them to do otherwise), but the extra time is worth Maida's personalized and custom work. TIPS: Print out pictures or have them on your phone, and bring examples of the look you want. Don't be hesitant to tell her what you want - even after the makeup application. She wants to personalize your look and will make you look your best - whether it be a natural or dramatic look you're going for. Have music playing in the background. It's more fun getting dolled up with music! Have A/C or a fan to keep the temp cool. It could get hot and stuffy especially with a bridal party in one room or with the rush of wedding duties. The A/C in our bridal suite went down and it got warm, but Maida and her assistant remained professional and continued to work while the hotel technician fixed it. Just breathe, relax, and enjoy your day! You know you'll look stunning after Maida's touch, and everything else will come together. :) END NOTE: I received tons of compliments on my makeup. Some people only saw my makeup in pictures and they loved it - and they saw the raw, unedited pictures too! I could tell Maida has a passion for makeup. It's not just her job - it's her art.
