In fact, I've picked up tips from many of them for my daily wear applications! The point here isn't to boast but to emphasize that I can spot a valuable MUA with my eyes closed. I was going to attend a concert for a boyband I'm friends with (98 Degrees!) and had VIP for soundcheck, meet n greet, champagne toast in the dressing room prior to the show and 1st row center seats. To say the least I HAD to look my best especially up against all the other women. I turned to trusty Yelp to find a new MUA and came across Stelliny. As the thorough Elite Yelper that I am, I initially made a list of a few makeup artists with positive reviews and who were nearby in proximity. Stelliny was my #1 choice based on this initial research although she was a teeny bit higher priced ($150 for makeup/hour with $50 deposit versus $120 average for others). However, Stella instantly won the bid due to her customer service. I had initially called a Google Voice number attached to her Yelp listing but she immediately called me back on her private cell. She was patient in answering all my questions and steered me to her online booking. When I had an issue with the said booking system, she was super quick to text solutions and resolve the issues. This rapid response and client care helped aid my choice for her as my MUA. Stelliny makeup services is based out of The Beauty Room LA location in Sun Valley in a strip plaza across the street from Sunland Produce at the Sunland/Glen Oaks intersection. Ample free parking is available behind the building which is a much better choice that the 30 minute street parking alongside Glen Oaks. The back entrance of the salon is super cute with a BOHO style patio area and succulents which extends to the lobby area with displayed crystals, sage and a fake plant wall. The salon is super modern, clean and cute so don't let the location deter you. I was instantly welcomed BY ALL of the staff and didn't have to wait long for Stella to be ready for me. Stella is a super sweet girl but also very professional. She isn't one to be chatty during the makeup service but she DOES ask for your input on exactly what you seek, asks to see any photo inspiration you brought along, lets you choose lip colors, etc. She doesn't just do what she wants and instead allows the client to have a voice. An hour later (it flew by, honestly) and my face was complete and looking fabulous! It wasn't overly produced or thick like Bozo the Clown. My look was glam but was still akin to my everyday self. So basically, it was me but elevated which is perfect because I don't want to feel like I'm wearing a fake face. Aside from just the quality of the application, the makeup itself had amazing staying power. I had my makeup appointment at noon, had to be at the venue at 5 and didn't get home till 11pm. 11 hours later and nothing was smeared, dripping or worn off! Amazing! Stelliny is a wonderful choice for makeup services from bridal to glam, soft glam to events and everything in between. She adjusted my eyelashes multiple times through various techniques to achieve the effect I desired, an effect was highly challenging for the shape of my eyes. She used her creative and innovative mind to make the looks possible on whatever shapes/features of the face by highlighting and shading. I booked a makeup trial in preparation for my WEDDING, expecting professionalism and basic industry standards. Instead, I walked away with a severe allergic reaction that took 48 hours to heal. From the start, she charged $325 for a trial. Compared to other makeup artists who either have no charge or charge less for a trial, $325 is excessive. Upon booking, I explicitly stated that I have sensitive skin and expected her to read my notes prior to the appointment. I traveled from San Francisco to see her in Glendale. Because I was traveling from out of town, I made several appointments back-to-back to make the most of my time in LA county. My appointment with Ani was at 8:30 am. On the day of my appointment, she was late. This made me late for my subsequent appointments that day. When she got to the studio, she immediately rushed into applying products without disclosing the ingredients and without checking if they were safe for my skin -- an inexcusable oversight for anyone working in a field where skin contact is central to the job. Within SECONDS, my skin began to burn, swell, and break out in hives. Thankfully, my mom was with me to help grab Benadryl from my purse. Instantly, I asked what she applied and told her (AGAIN) my skin is sensitive. She was horrified by the reaction of my skin, as it was red, swollen, and very clearly burned from her product - which I now know was moisturizer. She quickly removed the moisturizer with what I think was micellar water, and gave me a frozen water bottle to apply to my face. Out of shock and embarrassment, I tried to stay calm. Regrettably, I continued to sit in the chair. I should have immediately ran out of the studio, but I could not think straight! She proceeded to complete my eye make-up, which was admittedly very beautiful (hence the 2 stars). At the end of the session, I paid her the remaining balance and even TIPPED her. This was a HUGE mistake and I should have never paid her. She also never offered a refund, or a solution. Instead, she texted me a few months later asking if I was still interested in booking her for my wedding! When I kindly refused, she negotiated and offered to take $100 off her overall price for bridal makeup which was $525 (??, she now charges $600 for bridal makeup). The audacity.... I will never forget the physical aftermath on my skin and the emotional stress of this experience. What should have been an exciting part of my event planning, turned into a nightmare. Let me be very clear: if you value your skin, your health, and basic professionalism, proceed with caution with Ani. There are plenty of talented and unselfish artists out there.
