That made the experience feel much more like actually living in Ko Olina for a few days than staying in a hotel. Comfy beds, a spacious kitchen, plenty of room to spread out, and everything we needed to settle in. And then there was that balcony view. Every evening the sun put on a show over the ocean. I took an embarrassing number of sunset pictures and regret none of them. The beaches here are amazing, and N and I walked every single day. The grounds are beautiful, the lagoons are right there, and the whole place has this easy, peaceful rhythm to it. The staff were super friendly, the gym was great, and I loved unwinding in the hot tub at the end of the day. And then there was my unexpected tryst with the adorable mongooses running around the grounds. I became slightly obsessed with spotting them. Six days went by much too quickly. A true home away from home, with beaches, long walks, sunsets from the balcony, and a hot tub waiting at the end of the day. Hard to beat that.

However, the resort pricing overall food value was disappointing. At check-in guest are giving a discount card for 10% of Off at the Market and certain resort locations, which is appreciated. However, if you forget the card in your room while heading to the pool or Beach, you were simply out of luck since purchases can be charged directly to the room, it seems like the discount should automatically apply to the guest account instead of requiring a physical card. The 10% discount definitely helps because Hawaii is already expensive but the price is at the market and eateries felt excessive. For example we had 6 drinks and two orders of fish and chips at Long boards and the bill was $171. Unfortunately food felt like it mediocre pub food, which made the cost even harder to justify. Overall, we love the beauty of Ko Olina and the warmth of the people, but the resort pricing felt comparable to Disney without the food quality or value to match.

From the moment you walk in from the entrance to the main hall the towering ceiling above gives you a sense of grandeur and Hawaiian pride. Though everything has the Disney touch to it, the culture and mana of the islands feel like they've settled on the grounds. It helps when the community plays a big part in activities and decisions made for the operations. Aulani is a large employer of Hawaiians of course, but it feels like the culture is also respected in regards to their day-to-day operations. From monthly events showcasing different hālau hula to storytelling to the keiki (children) about Polynesian culture, Aulani feels like they respect the land and the people. All that being said, the property itself is wonderful. Having a lazy river, their own cove into the ocean, large towers overlooking the island, several restaurants on property, easy fast casual dining options, plenty of pools, and proximity to Monkeypod across the street, many people who visit never step foot outside the resort for good reason. The property is so self sustaining you can really enjoy "your rent" haha. Though Aulani is never the only destination when visiting Oahu, it is a trip worth taking when you want the distinct experiences of Disney and Polynesian hospitality mixed together. A truly fun family space, if you're in Oahu and looking for the above sentiment, there's no reason not to visit.

I mentioned this directly to Alesia Borja (MRP, SRES, PSA) before our Zoom meeting. As a listing partner with those credentials, I expected her to understand the program and explain how it works. Instead, the meeting turned into a long one-hour listing presentation, and the Guaranteed Sale Program was not discussed at all, even though that was the main reason I contacted them. Her follow-up response was that she would "connect me with the broker for clarity" and that the program is not designed for sellers who want a home sold in 30 days. That felt like my question was sidestepped rather than answered. Adding to the confusion, my husband listens to Adrienne Lally and Attilio Leonardi on their Saturday morning radio show, where they consistently say that "if they cannot sell your home, they will buy it." That messaging is very clear, yet the explanation I received suggested the reality may be much more limited. Because of that, the Guaranteed Sale Program felt more like a marketing hook to draw people in rather than something clearly explained upfront. Pros: Organized general listing presentation. Cons: The Guaranteed Sale Program, heavily promoted on their website and radio show, is not what it appears to be.
