Have rented here with family for years and I'm finally old enough to rent myself! My friends and I went out on a speedboat. It was super cool and a little scary because this boat was awesome getting up to speed. Just went out for a short 2 hour trip and we brought some water toys they offer. Unfortunately we LOST the tube on the way back to the dock. I'm so sorry again for losing the tube. Staff was so sweet and they write on everything "majors outpost" so I hope it is brought back. I tipped a bit extra to thank them for not charging me for the tube. I think next time we need to check out the jet skis! Awesome! We drove down from Susanville on a whim and found this place to rent a boat. It was super easy to find and the ladies than ran the place were great. Have everything you need. Vests, a Bluetooth speaker for the boat for music and best of all --for the kids, an inflatable slide. We just wanted to go out for a swim. Did just that! Only down side is you have to rent in 2 hour blocks. So be sure to call ahead! read more

Friendly family run boat rental business. Lower prices than the marina across the lake, but the pontoon boat we rented had a strange configuration, like they salvaged some seats from another boat. But the boat worked for our needs and I was happy to save a few bucks over what Knotty Pine charges. Also, they have a great garden on the premises and they encourage you to pick something you like. One note: they don't have a sign, so look for the big tent to the right of the marina store and gas and that's where you want to go. read more

Joe, Bo, and the whole team at Majors Outpost are the absolute best. We rented a pontoon boat for a whole week. The staff welcomed us with huge smiles, and gave us all the vital instructions, safety parameters, etc. Everyone could not have been nicer from the time we made the reservation to the time we dropped the boat off. Throughout the week, we went back and rented jet skis, plus a speed boat to go tubing. We have rented pontoon boats from Majors every year for about 5 years now during our annual camping trip to Lake Almanor. They have always been great about getting us out on the lake on time and making sure that they don't hassle you if you come back a few minutes later. read more

They need to update their website if they aren't going to be open during the days/months that are posted. They also don't answer their phones or emails so what's the point to having a business? Wasted over an hour finding the place for it to be closed is really frustrating. They lost out on a LOT of money today. read more

These guys were so great! Super friendly, personable, laid back, and accommodating. We rented jet skis and a ski boat. They were clean and seemed well-maintained. We were given safety and operating instructions and directions on where to go. A little expensive but well worth it! Joe was cool and Beau was a super great guy: professional and a couple of guys you could see inviting over to your house for a BBQ. We didn't catch the names of the other guys working there but they moved with a purpose, and a sense of urgency, and were very nice and helpful. We will be renting from them again! Don't listen to Google Maps. It says it's permanently closed and leads you to the wrong location. Major's Outpost is located right at Plumas Pines. Just take the turn in there and you'll see their tie-dye tent. These people are the friendliest. They greeted us immediately when we got there and got us set up very fast with a jet ski. They also have free aqua cycles for customers so if you're switching off with friends you have a fun activity to do while you wait. There was some miscommunication and we didn't pay for gas. They called us up and we apologized and said we come back and pay. Instead they told us not to worry about it and thanked us for our business. Great location if you're staying at Plumas Pines Resort! They had friendly staff willing to show you how everything works and take pictures of you too! We rented two sea-doos one day and a pontoon boat another day. Both were well-maintained and user-friendly, even for novices. I don't have a lot to compare to, but prices seemed fair. They also have a nice beach area for kids to play before or after, and they offer free use of aqua bike and kayak when you rent from them! If you're staying at Lake Almanor you really should make Major's Outpost part of your trip! read more

My group of two families and 10 people rented a ski boat for 5 days and pontoon boat for 2 days from this place. They were friendly, courteous and professional. Everything worked out exactly as planned. The boats ran perfectly and we had a great time. All the toys were part of the rental - skis, wake boards, tubes, knee boards, etc. They were very helpful with fitting the kids with the wake boards. They even offered to drive the pontoon boat across the lake and switch it with the ski boat when we were ready to change over. I highly recommend renting from Majors's Outpost. By the way - one of the bummers about Yelp is how a company can get a bad review that is unfair. Notice there are only 3 other reviews other than this one and two are 5 star. The third is one star written by someone who ran a jet ski on shallow water and thinks he shouldn't have to pay for the damage. When you rent, you sign a contract saying you will pay for damage. Live with it. That review should be ignored and this company gets 5 stars. read more

We got to their spot and got our pontoon and they had it ready and they helped us pack the boat and unpack by bringing us a cart. We lost the ladder and we felt so bad but he said "Oh it didn't have a flotation device? Thats on me." And that was that. So I would love to say they rock and hope you chose them to rent from. We rented 2 wave runners last week. Immediately one failed. The owner did send a tow, repaired the machine, and returned it an hour later. Unfortunately they could not extend our reserved 4 hours, so that put a bummer on our day of fun. Grumpy employees and limited inventory. However I will reiterate the owner did his best to make us happy- even shared a Corona with us. While the rental company over on the penninsula has a much larger and newer inventory, I give this place 3 stars instead of 2 because the owner truly tried to make us happy and is a good guy in a tough business. read more

I've always gone to this place since I was a little kid. I've done jet skis, party boats, and regular boats! The people who work here are very nice and accommodating! Rented a competition ski boat for the day during our weekend trip to the lake. These guys are great!! They met us first thing in the morning and had everything set and ready to go. They were super helpful and made the experience so much fun. I'm not super confident driving a ski boat, but they helped so much with instruction and navigating to a from the dock. Friendly service and great prices! Two Wave Runners for two hours. Great safety instructions and where to operate. $400.00 dollar deposit was refunded immediately on my return with the Wave Runners as I followed instructions making sure that I did not operate in shallow water.. DO NOT OPERATE in shallow water if you would like your deposit returned!! Life vests are provided at no extra charge. Fuel is not covered in the rental but I spent less than $300.00 with rental and fuel. Great place, will rent again when in the area. While camping in Lake Almanor, our group of 14 decided to look into renting a ski boat for a few hours. Our campground office had brochures for Major's Outpost, so we decided to give them a try. We called and made a reservation for the following morning for a 4 hour boat rental, which included any accessories desired (kneeboard, wakeboard, skis, tubes, etc). When we arrived, they welcomed us enthusiastically, checked us in, fitted us all for life jackets and loaded us and all of the toys onto the boat. Because the boat could not fit all 14 of us at once, they very generously told us to enjoy the lake and the use of their single & double kayak and paddle boats, free of charge. It was a gorgeous day and one member of our group ended up renting a jet ski for a couple of hours too. When our rental time period was up, they welcomed us back with a cold beer for each adult! We had a fantastic time and would recommend Major's Outpost without reservation. Their friendly customer service, fair prices & value for the money and generosity definitely won us over! read more
