We were hungry so we stopped in. We had no idea it was Happy Hour but from 3pm until 5pm on weekdays it is Happy Hour. Their street tacos are only $2.50 each. That's a great deal. We got 4 tacos each the Pastor and the Carnitas. They come loaded with pineapple on the Pastors and Guacamole on the Carnitas. The meat wasn't that great of quality and I'm pretty fussy about that but what did I expect for $2.50. Just like I suspected my husband is not fussy and ate three of my tacos. I did order the Elote. Mexican Corn on the cob. It was so good and got all over me. I found myself licking my lips long after we left. I want to go back for Nachos, Tamales and more street corn. I'm about to find out! Always on the hunt for new and exciting spot to get my grub on. Well here we are at Maize... it's Al Pastor happy hour from 3-6, AYCE! The kitchen is a little behind schedule so no Carnitas today. It will be properly braised in 50 minutes. "Next time" I replied. I got the following tacos. 1 shrimp taco 1 Mahi Mahi/ fish taco 1 Al Pastor taco 1 Carne Asada taco First bite shrimp taco. Wow! So fresh and full of flavors and good textures. On a double blue corn tortilla. Lots of artistic creativity blended with a refined sense of culinary prowess. The best tacos I've ever had. 1 or 2 would do but since I wanted to review this spot I got 4. They have a lobster taco for $6 and I bet you it's incredible. Next was the meaty and moist Mahi Mahi Pescado taco. Again, wow! Big bite filled with fresh fish, cabbage and so clean. Served on a shell that looks like that chain's Gordo shell but this was more refined and looks rich. Loved this one too. Getting full but Yelp duty calls. This 3rd one was Al Pastor. Thinly sliced, well seasoned meat with a load of great flavors from the fresh pico and chunks of pineapple. The thick corn tortilla is meaty yet has a delicate delicious bite but hearty enough to hold all that incredible stuff. Big bites, big flavor. Love this one too. Oh my belly is so full. Carne asada is my last taco to review. I wanted more Jamaica to drink. I was expecting to pay for the refill but refills are free. While up there I asked about the unique thick corn tortillas whether they were made fresh in the kitchen. Yes they are. This is my new taco spot. It's like these talented moms decided to open a restaurant together and hit a home run. Okay, time for the last taco. Can you tell I'm stalling? lol Oh wow! Fire grilled beef. Tender USDA angus beef. The thick corn tortilla with a big dollop of guacamole on top. Very tasty. The Jamaica can be too sweet at other places but here it's perfectly sweet and refreshing... with free refills! The Salsa bar is on point. They have taste bud melting habanero (warning clearly displayed) delineating down to a mild green tomatillo salsa that would be great on the fish tacos. First time trying Maize and I was thoroughly impressed. I just got a normal Chicken Burrito with the Chipotle sauce it and it tasty, especially with the Chipotle sauce, and very filling. Depending on how much you eat you might be able to share a single burrito for two. I've been eyeing Maize for awhile and we finally made time to try it during the week. Not too busy around 4pm so we were able to order quickly and take our pick of the seating. Staff were friendly! You get a number and they call it out when your order is ready. The surf and turf super nachos were great! I was a big fan and I could not finish them at all. Large portion. The chips were heavy duty so they didn't get soggy immediately which was a bonus. My partner tried a carne asada taco and a chicken taco, both were good. The chicken had a nice kick to it. Maize Tacos was amazing. The corn tortillas where so good they are the best I've had. I loved the thickness and how soft they where. We ordered 3 Carne Asada and 2 Carnitas tacos. But they ended up giving us 5 Carnitas tacos which cost less then Carne Asada. That was frustrating but the Carnitas tacos where so good we enjoyed what we ended up with. We've added Maize to the Mexican food rotation for lazy nights. It's a good addition to the mix of cafe rio and Costa Rica, with a bit different meat options. Probably not an authentic choice but it's on par with what's in the neighborhood and is an easy grab and go. read more

This place has amazing tacos! So nice to have this right in Draper and not have to travel downtown! I highly recommend the pastor or shrimp tacos! If I have one complaint, it's that the place is very noisy inside, but it has an open ceiling and often is filled with parents letting their screaming brats run around, which isn't at all the restaurants fault. I bought a couple of coupons from Groupon. My wife and I used them here. $40 later (in coupons) we get our food. It LOOKED good but the taste was subpar. My wife (Hispanic) said the taste was VERY lacking. It needed more salt, as other reviews have mentioned. We ordered 4 tacos each and my wife ordered a gringa additionally. We both got 2 tacos al pastor, they were GROSS. The meat was so dry and were tasteless. No flavor. We also got carne asada tacos. I had ordered a tinga taco and instead they gave me a carne asada. So on top of no flavor they didn't get the order right. The gringa was TINY. My wife said-they charged $6 for this?! We also both got food poisoning. Out first time to Maize, and likely our last. Wanted to give a go and see what this place was all about. So, after two burritos, and two drinks, and a 15% tip...our tab came to $34. My wife had the carne asada burrito with the pico on the side, and I had the carnitas burrito with double beans and no rice. My wife's burrito was LOADED with Spanish rice...literally too much as there was little carne mixed in. Disappointing to say the least. However, my carnitas was loaded with pork - and frijoles - and it was pretty damn good, if I do say so myself. Accordingly, my wife was disappointed as she he higher hopes for the place. With that said, the salsa bar was really nice with a creamy sour cream/cilantro sauce, a green tomatillo salsa, and a spicy red salsa to choose from. They also had a mix of pickled jalapenos and another topping of red onions floating in vinegar. Yum. All things considered, my wife gave them a 2 star rating, and I gave them a three+...and we rounded that to three stars. Pleasant and helpful staff working there too. The only downside to the restaurant's ambiance was that it was an echo chamber (a party of 8 were along the east wall and it was very noisy in there)...and the metal chairs were very uncomfortable. Three Stars overall. UPDATED 12-17-2022: My wife let me finish off her leftover burrito she took home in a doggy bag. I dutifully warmed it up and finished it off...and to my surprise I found that virtually all of the missing carne asada was in the end that I ATE! So, I got the best part but had to tell my wife the news. She was not happy. Nevertheless, our guidance to the ladies who make the burritos: please distribute the meat evenly through the length of the burrito (like you did with my carnitas burrito!)
