The restaurant was pretty clean, had a good amount if space, and the staff were nice. The prices were very reasonable and you get a generous portion. I ordered the lamb kabob which came with naan, salad, and fragrant "brown" rice- flavored with what I assume is clove, cinnamon and raisins. The gourmand flavors really compliment the savoriness of the meat which was nicely seasoned and tender. Also the side of pumpkin was delicious and interesting because it has a garlic sauce that balances out the sweetness in the dish. Overall, I will definitely revisit.

Delicious kabobs and great place for a meal. We ordered a little bit of everything and we had so much food! I loved the pumpkin side especially. I enjoyed my chicken and I would definitely order it again. The restaurant has drinks in a cooler and plenty of options.

Maiwand Kabob is a MD classic. They have multiple locations (I believe this is the original), and while they can vary a bit in quality it's only from really great to amazing. This is one of the amazing one, you really can't go wrong with almost any item on the menu. It's also a great value with dinner size portions for lunch prices. Go, go, go!

I thought I had posted this review a few months ago. First visit to Maiwand Kabob every though a buddy of mine eats there a few times a week and always raves about it. I have seen a few locations about town but it always seemed located in the vicinity of some other restaurant I planned to visit (e.g. Rangoli) so I never bothered. This location is in the same shopping plaza as the Safeway and is diagonally across from Safeway so plenty of parking. I placed a to-go order for the Chicken Shawarma and Naan. it came served with a side of fries. Pretty great portions and nice, friendly staff. I sat in the restaurant while I waited for the food and a family came in for lunch. They were greeted warmly and since the restaurant doesn't have a large seating area, it suddenly felt like I as in someone's kitchen. People were laughing and seemed to be teasing the guy behind the counter. Couldn't quite make out what was being said but the scene was pretty cute. When I have chicken shawarma abroad, there is much more of a citrus flavor and I love that. This didn't have that flavor but was still well seasoned and yummy. I will definitely check out other items on the menu next on my next visit.

I've been on a bit of a kabob kick lately, and was searching for something for lunch in this immediate area of Columbia / Ellicot City (I think its technically Columbia here). I stopped in this plaza to grab something quick at the grocery store, when I spotted Maiwand. Its tucked in on the far side of the plaza, near some former banks and other outer-lots, and its pretty easy to miss, but I'm glad I found it. The restaurant has a good sized menu posted on the left when you come in, as well as some items behind the counter -- I didn't see the full menu until after I'd ordered, oops! Be sure to check it out, they've got some good specials. I ordered lamb kabobs, which came with naan, rice, and a salad. The kabob was simply roasted lamb with onions, and I admit, I could have done for a little more kabob. It was really good, which may have had something to do with why I wanted more! The meat was cooked to perfection, and the onions were well done without being burnt (beyond the normal little bit of char you'll get from the grill). I really enjoyed the bread, too. Overall, a very good experience, and I'll definitely be trying them again.

Pros: Halal Location Price Cleanliness Taste!! Omg the chicken tikka Quanty - I can usually share a platter or save 1/2 for the next day Cons: Timing! No.Matter.What. you're going to wait! Call ahead and arrive? 15 min wait after arriving, spontaneously drop in and place an order? 15-20 min wait ..I don't like it but it's typically worth the wait, which brings me to my second and final con (yep only two).. INCONSISTENT - chicken is not always completely cooked through and sometimes the salad quality dwindles.

Foreground: Green pea and Potato Curry, Spinach and white rice, Background: Veggie Platter

I really like Maiwand!! It's inexpensive and you get enough food to last for another meal. The daily specials are great too! The one drawback is that naan doesn't normally come with a meal, like some other places. You have to order it if you want it. The appetizers are always filling. You can order a bunch of appetizers and sides and be full. This particular location is small with limited seating. If you want the lunch buffet, you'll have to visit the location in Dobbin Center.

Good food and portions and even more so for the price. The tandoori bread is excellent.

11 years later, I still love my Maiwand Kabob. This is one of six locations of this name…read more All of them are delicious, but a couple of notes about this location: * The printed menu is pretty short, but they do have a much longer menu online (I've found I can order those items in-store also, but you need to know to look for them) * It has a larger dining area, and offers table service for groups or if you have mobility limited folks in your party * Online ordering cuts off an hour before store close, but you can still call your order in after that * Don't forget about dessert! Unsurprisingly they have great baklava, but the cheesecake variants are sleeper hits Afghan remains one of the best combination of affordable and savory in the area, it's a great way to eat well and support a local business while you're at it!

The food is excellent. The portion sizes are filling and the prices are fair for the quality of food. I especially love their kofta, eggplant, fries, and green sauce. They have high chairs. I was too full for dessert but they have lots of really unique and delicious looking desserts. I want to go back for the rose ice cream. I didn't love that we were given plastic cups with plastic lids and plastic silverware when we were dining in. I'm trying to reduce the amount of plastic send to landfills and I would prefer reusable things when I'm dining in.
