Astoria Paper is the best kept secret off Carlisle St…read more It's located in a brightly painted warehouse, and if not for the constant buzz of people in and out, you may not even be sure it's a store. This place is a magical wonderland for all things plastic, paper, kitchen and party. Let me explain by giving you a short list of some of the items I've bought here: - industrial strength caterers aluminium foil - polka dot cupcake wrappers - mini top hat for a dressup party - toothpicks with Aussie flags on them - paper lanters with tiny LED lights inside - plastic tongs - glitter glue - novelty oversized playing cards for a hens night and a BUNCH of other purchases - some necessary, some frivolous. They have napkins and plastic tablecloths in every shade you can imagine, disposable containers, hula skirts, pinatas, ribbon, balloons, kids toys, costumes, fancy dress items and man.... it just goes on. I really appreciate that in addition to an amazing range, Astoria's prices are incredibly reasonable. Certainly cheaper than a specialty party store. Dont forget to walk all the way to the back to the party goods room!

If you host regular parties then Astoria should be on your list of "go to" places. Need napkins in…read more20 colours? Helium? Crazy costumes? Cute toothpicks with pirate flags on the end? Yep, they have it all here and at super competitive prices. I recently bought a huge bag of Gangster hats and feathered headbands for a 1920's style party - at just a few dollars for each piece, it was a quick (and cheap) way to add some sparkle to an evening.

We got to talking and I had a look at his portfolio work as he had his iPad handy. From his wedding photography to portrait work with Australia's top comedians, I was immediately taken by his photos and knew right there and then that should marriage or family photos ever be in my future plans - Alan would be the guy I'd hire. His wedding photography is beautiful, but anyone that can capture 'funny' knows how to show personality in photos, and that's what I was really impressed by. Since then, I've worked with him on numerous occasions through Yelp events that he's shot for me, but this review is for my personal experience with hiring him for photos to announce our elopement. Alan treats his clients like his friends. It's not just me, that's how he is, he cares. Which means he's never afraid to have a joke with you and he'll never let you look ugly in photos. I couldn't stand the idea of a cheesy portrait shoot holding hands on the beach, so Alan helped us come up with something really fun and cheeky that was more 'us'. We're both pretty awkward when it comes to getting our photo taken, but you wouldn't know it from the pics we ended up with. Our family absolutely adore the pics and were thrilled to receive them - which definitely helped with breaking the news that we got married in secret! Having hired him for this moment I can see why he talks about his clients like friends and why they like having him there for all the big moments all the way through (marriage, kids portraits etc).

For as long as I can remember I dislike having my photo taken. That one on one intimate space…read moreinvasion kinda freaks me out. The tidious time of moving a leg here, raising the chin, lowering your left ear... The list goes on. So when it came time to have professional business style photos taken I knew that we couldn't go past Alan for his friendly and supportive manner and more importantly his efficient and professional service. Alan was an absolute delight to work with. We had three directors from very different backgrounds and very different expectations. Despite my reassurances most had blocked out a good two hours to get these photos completed. Within minutes Alan had people smiling, photos taken and worries washed away. The images we received within days of our photo shoot. Should the big W day ever come my way I'll be making sure Alan is there. Even if it means the dates are set around his schedule.
