The foregoing would have been more commensurate with the cost of a room upgrade; I tried to book a lounge access room via the site, but the radio button was unavailable. The site wanted you to pay cash & points. I did not want to pay $130 USD/night extra for lounge access; Before arrival I received an email that said I could upgrade to a lounge access room via points. When I inquired about this offer at the front desk, the woman said the points option is unavailable, and it would be $300 AUD/night for an upgrade: WTF?! The upgrade should be $200 AUD based on exchange rates; Shitty room w/ no view; Our room was not cleaned the 3 days we stayed. We had to call the last day to have our room cleaned. The day before we had to bring the trash and soiled towels to the cleaning lady in the hallway; Fuk U IHG!!!!! Your initials stand for I H-ate G-etting Cheated and Lied to, bc that is how I have been treated. This is my 5th stay at an IC or Kimpton high end hotel this year. All of my stays have been disappointing. I don't have the foregoing issues with "real" hotel chains like Hyatt, Marriott nor Hilton.

I took a star just because the restaurant seemed to a little confused mess. If you're doing a la cart the staff seems genuinely confused and not sure how to serve you. Food is outstanding and the coffee when you can get some is quite good. Don't get me wrong everyone in the restaurant is very nice, they just appear to be expecting everyone to be doing the full on buffet and when you're not, its a different experience.

I chose this hotel because of its location and its high regard on other travel websites. We were extremely happy with our experience. The hotel is in an ideal location - close to plenty of dining options (check out Burma Lane directly across the street), Chinatown, shopping, and local attractions such as Federation Square, the National Gallery of Victoria, St Paul's and St Patrick's cathedrals, Fitzroy Gardens, etc. It's tucked away on one of Melbourne's narrow one-lane streets, but there's still plenty of road and foot traffic out front. We were greeted warmly upon check-in by the reception desk and concierge, and were given warm towels to freshen up after our long day of travel. As I took care of the details, a porter showed up immediately, loaded our bags up, and took them to our room. We took the glass elevator up to the top floor of the west tower, where we found our quiet corner suite ready for us, with the porter following closely behind. He oriented us to the climate control and other features of the suite as well. We had a spacious 2-bedroom suite with a kitchenette, dining area, and living room. Both bedrooms very quite roomy with a king bed in one room and two twins in the other. The master bath had a double sink and both bathrooms had tubs with jets. It was impeccably clean and the bath amenities were high quality and responsibly-sourced. There were large televisions in both bedrooms and the living room, so I was able to watch as much of the Cricket World Cup as I wanted as the rest of the family sought refuge elsewhere. The views from the windows were just okay, as the city has grown around the hotel, but we could still get a glimpse of the sky. There was a funny little sitting area outside our living room, which was a high-walled concrete enclosure with no view except for up, so we didn't use it. There are other rooms that had windows overlooking the atrium, but I'm not sure I would have chosen those as we could see through some of the open curtains as we rode the elevator. A breakfast buffet was included in the special family getaway package that we booked, and it was fantastic. The coffee from the automatic machine was better than average, though if you wanted to have barista-prepared coffee there was an option for that, though I believe it comes with a nominal $4 cost. The buffet was well-stocked during the peak hours. We didn't eat at the hotel restaurant during our stay since we were eager to try other restaurants in the city, but the promos in the elevators and lobby were enticing, especially an afternoon high tea option that could be delivered to your room. We didn't make use of the leisure amenities at this hotel since we wanted to spend most of our time exploring Melbourne. We did stop in to see the indoor rooftop pool, sauna, and exercise room, which were all modern and inviting. For all of this, the cost of our accommodation was almost shockingly moderate, as we paid a little less than than AUD400 per night. With the prevailing exchange rate, this came to less than US$300 per night, breakfast included. As 5-star rated hotels go, especially one so conveniently located, it's hard to beat.

The Park Hyatt hotels go above and beyond, and the Melbourne location is no exception…read more First and foremost, this is the only hotel I know of that has a canine ambassador! His name is Mr Walker and he is so welcoming. I have to confess, I am not a huge dog person but Mr Walker won me over. Not only is he friendly, you can go with him on his morning walks! We were able to join one morning and it was actually a nice change of pace from the go-go sightseeing schedule. On our walk, Mr Walker's caretaker was also kind enough to stop and explain some of the local history, so that was an added bonus! The rooms are well kept and spacious. The bed was comfortable. And I enjoyed watching the telly while enjoying a relaxing bath. The service was also excellent. From the staff at the front desk to the those working at the restaurants. Room service was delivered in a timely manner and the food were still hot upon arrival! The location is conveniently located in catching the free tram for the CBD. Definitely make this your hotel the next time you are in Melbourne!

Their newest hotel, The Larwill Studio, is conveniently located in Parkville, just north of the CBD. Admittedly, I was concerned it was too far from the city but the fact is, it's not. Think of it as discovering a new up and coming area of Melbourne before the rest of the cool kids do. It's about a $13 cab from the city and if you're a tram pro there's a tram stop just out of the front. It may not be the most convenient for a Chapel St shopping marathon but if you're more inclined to stroll the streets of Carlton, Fitzroy and North Melbourne here's just the spot for you. It's equally important to note it is in the same complex as the new Royal Children's Hospital. This means it's also offering a beautiful and light-hearted space for families of patients. But back to the hotel. Like all Art Series (AS) it's focused on the art of one Australian artist. This one, David Larwill. His pieces accent the walls and I'm sure it is no accident his child-like drawings are a nod to the near-by Children's hospital. The fun and cheek of his artwork carry through from the lobby to each room. While the location and space may be a new adventure for the AS Group, they've not lost anything in translation. I stayed in one of the rooms overlooking what will, in time, be a park space with views to the CBD. Each room has playful additions like a yoga mat in your cupboard to pair with the yoga class on an iPad from reception, pillowcases with David Larwill sayings like "Put your heart in it", Frankie magazine, and a peg-board with inspirational cards - all making the Larwill a lighter and fresher feeling stay compared to the rest of the Art Series family. For those who know the Art Series way you still have your EVO toiletries, T2 tea, the most heavenly beds you may ever gently sink into and drift to a deep sleep. If that's not sweet enough - there's also free WiFi. PRO TIP: Hire one of their orange push bikes and cycle to Parkville Store or the cafe's of North Melbourne for your morning coffee.

There isn't a doorman or automatic doors, which was slightly annoying to me since I was traveling heavy. Ashleigh at reception was really nice and helpful. The room was nice (room 811, photos below) - I had a single queen room and I found it to be perfect. The bathroom was pretty sexy and the view was great - you can see Southern Cross Station out the window! I opted for the pre-paid breakfast - note that you book it in advance, but then pay for it later. They had a wonderful spread of hot breakfast and also yogurts, pastries and fruits. I couldn't try everything. The only thing I didn't care for was the carpets in the hallways - it's plush which is nice, but it was really hard to wheel my suitcases to my room. So I took them one at a time. Would stay here again and would recommend.
