Wah wah waaaaah. Such a disappointment. I was so very excited to see that there was a new cool place in my hood. I had such high expectations. I joined a group of other Elite Yelpers here for a dinner hosted by the amiable Kévin. While the dinner companions were lovely, the meal itself started out on a mediocre note and just went downhill from there. The service was probably the most lacking part of the evening. The servers themselves were very kind, but they were completely over-run with patrons and took forever to get our order (I waited over 45 minutes for a drink, which came out after the appetizer). They needed at least one other server to manage the crowd. I had the poached egg for the appetizer. It was okay, but the egg itself was closer to hard boiled. One of our fellow diners had the same thing and she sent it back for a new one. I made a fatal error in ordering my main course. I had planned to order one thing assuming it was vegetarian (new French word for me: "bar" is a type of fish...good to know), so had to choose last minute when giving my order. I panicked and got the vegetarian bagel. Oy. I know better. Don't try to eat American things in France. Just don't. But I did. And, of course, it was a horrible let-down. First off, they brought me a Texan bagel (which had melted cheese and chicken in it...how is that Texan exactly?) Had to send that back. Then once I got my vegetarian bagel, it was highly unsatisfying. Marinated vegetables along with Philly cream cheese on an untoasted, French, onion bagel. Really? Is this supposed to taste good? I'm not convinced that any of the people who work there even think it's good. I strongly suggest a makeover for that dish. The fries were decent, though. They did have a vegetarian lasagna on the menu, but I had just made lasagna at home the night before so passed on that. Other than that, there were no other vegetarian main dish options (a few more available as appetizers, though). So, what to say about this place? The ambiance was nice. The location is great - right on the canal. The servers are nice, but too busy to be effective. The food was unimaginative. At least the wine was good, and not too expensive. Cocktails for only 8€ is a big plus, and I think they are 5€ at happy hour. All in all, I'd consider this place somewhere to go for a drink either for happy hour or after dinner. It would be somewhere I would take my daughter for an afternoon snack after a day at Parc de la Villette. If you stick to that, I think it would be okay. But to expect more on the food side is pushing it. Perhaps if they stepped-up the menu a bit and hired another server they could earn another star. I'll give them a few months to try to iron things out and will come back again to give them another shot. read more
